I Just called again to American Assest Center and their number 1-814-325-9538 and has been temporality disconnected. I guees they are aware ther are being investigated about their tactics and their fraud. I googled their address again 1160 Mckinney Lane Suite:100 Pittsburgh, PA 15220 AND USED TO BE A REGULAR HOUSE(RESIDENCE) PER SAY. Now the address appears to be a office building they are trying to lease. I am sure that is a NEW tactic they are using to be able to have consumer's trust (credible they are trying to look like a legitimate serious business. When they are NOT.

I received few calls at home, place of work and even a letter saying that a law suit was againts me due to unpaid credit card bills and an attempt to arrest me.
I called immediately to the number left on my home voice mail box. I spoke to someone
which I don't remember her name, and she mentioned to me that it was a recorded line and she asked me to give information about my debit card to debit $118.85 monthly for a period of 18months. If I failed to finish paying before this period of time, then I was going to be sued and also to be charged with court fees. Ijust called the number given tome by this company 1-814-325-9538 and says that this number has been temporaly disconnected. I gooled their address which is 1160 Mckinney Lane suite#100 Pittsburgh, PA 15220.
This facility is not a building on a company per say. This address is just a regular residence neighboorhood, just a middle class area. It's not a business park at all.

I too received a call from 814-325-9538. I called back several times over the course of an hour and WAS UNSUCCESSFUL IN MY ATTEMPT SPEAK WITH A REPRESENTATIVE. I agree, this is a scam. I spoke with a lawyer. The American Asset Co CANNOT come after you without presenting you with some sort of legal paperwork / documentation. I DID NOT EVEN BOTHER WITH LEAVING A MESSAGE FOR THEM TO CALL ME BACK. I hope someone finds these guys and takes them to court!!!

i got one of these calls today - i actually reached someone at that number after 4 tries and he got very nasty when i told him his recording did not say who the action was against.  when he said a name that was not mine i informed him i would report this to the fcc and he began to cuss me.  when i finished the call i went online to fcc.gov and filed a complaint about unsolicited phone calls - maybe everyone should start doing that and they may catch these people

I received a call from this person as well. Stating that if i don't respond within 24-48 hours, a restraining order will be issued. So i decided to give this person a call. Knowing the laws, you have to receive some sort of written legal documentation before anyone can take you to court. This is a HUGE scam. The person that got on the phone was talking too fast, and i had asked him to repeat himself. He started yelling out the question. I advised him, " sir i would like to speak with your supervisor if you are going to continue to be this rude, i just asked you to repeat yourself because i couldn't understand what you were saying. He replied with, " I am the supervisor, if you don't like how im talking to you thats too bad." I advised him that i know what he is doing is scam trying to steal peoples identity, i advised him that a police report will be filed against him and this company he is claiming to be apart of." He hung up on me.  I tried calling him back twice, it kept going to an automated system then to voicemail. Don't listen to anything these people have to say to you. What they are doing is very illegal. I work for a bank, and will not be harrassed like that especially knowing the laws. I registered my husbands and my phone number on the National Do Not Call Registry. After 30 days, if a telemarketer or people such as this guy continues to call, you can make a complaint with the FTC. Also, i believe this "company" is under current investigation right now from what i've read online.

Section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf requires 3rd-party debt collectors to give debtors written notice of debt (the key word is *shall*) :
"§ 809. Validation of debts
(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing?
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;
(4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and
(5) a statement that, upon the consumer?s written request within the thirty-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor."

A Collection Agent May Not?

Here are the top 11 actions prohibited by the The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act:

Misrepresent Him or Herself

  A debt collector may not misrepresent himself as an attorney or law enforcement officer.

Use the Telephone to Annoy or Harass

  A collection agent may not cause a telephone to ring or engage any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with an intent to annoy, abuse, or harass anyone at the called number.

Threaten Arrest or Lawsuit

  A collection agent may not threaten a consumer with arrest. It may not threaten legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated. In other words, a the threat of a lawsuit may be an empty one.

Use Abusive or Threatening Language

  A debt collector may no use abusive or profane language in the course of communication related to the debt.

Publish a Bad Debt List

  Publishing the consumer?s name or address on a "bad debt" list is prohibited.

Contact By Embarrassing Media

  A debt collector may not communicate with a consumer by post card. It may not use any language or symbol, other than the debt collector?s address, on any envelope when communicating with a consumer by use of the mails or by telegram. A debt collector may use its business name if such name does not indicate it is in the debt collection business.

Contact a Consumer at Work

  A collection agent may not communicate with consumers at their place of employment after being told this is unacceptable or prohibited by the employer.

Seek Unjustifiable Amounts

  A debt collector may not demand any amounts not permitted under an applicable contract or as provided under law.

Contact a Consumer Represented by an Attorney

  A collection agent may not contact a consumer after it learns the consumer is represented by a lawyer.

Communicate With a Consumer After Receiving a Validation Request

  If a consumer sends a written §1692g response within 30 days, the collection agent may not communicate with the consumer until it mails the consumer the requested verification of original creditor's name and address.

Communicate With Third Parties

  A debt collector may not reveal or discuss the nature of a consumer?s debts with third parties other than the consumer?s spouse or attorney. A collection agent may contact neighbors or co-workers only to obtain location information. It may contact a third party again if it has reason to believe the information the party provided previously is false.

Bills.com FDCPA FAQ

Below are questions Bills.com readers ask frequently:

Can a Collection Agent Call My Cell Phone?

  Yes. However, if you tell the debt collector it may not use that number because it is a cell phone, it may not contact you again at that number.

I Keep Receiving Dozens of Calls From Collection Agents. Is That Legal?

  No. Unscrupulous collection agents will use "block parties" or "office parties" where they contact a consumer, multiple neighbors, or co-workers telling them they need to reach the consumer on an urgent matter. This is not permitted under the FDCPA.

A Collector Says I Will Be Arrested if I Do Not Pay

  This was a true statement before the US Civil War, but has not been true since. People may be arrested if an aggressive judge files a bench warrant for a person who does not appear at a hearing relating to a lawsuit regarding a debt. However, in that case, the offense is the failure to respond to a court order, and not the existence of the debt. As stated above, it is illegal under the FDCPA to threaten a consumer with arrest if the consumer does not pay the debt.

These people use a voice recording to leave you a message and scare you that you have a restraining order against you. They give you a "affidavit number" to reference and once I was finally able to reach someone and right off the bat he wanted my SS#.  I refused to give it to him because I wanted to know more information before I gave out my personal info. He was very rude and started yelling at me I asked him to transfer me to another representative and he got mad and told me he wasn't going to help and that I would just receive my subpoena from the sherrif department. LOL Don't let these people scare you into giving our your personal info.

They said I owed almost $2,000 from an account that I'd never heard of that went delinquent in 2007.  They used my maiden name and had an old address but they also had my social security number.  That is scary!!  The first person I spoke with was very rude.  He claimed I kept interrupting him and said, "You want me to help you, right?  Do you want me to help you, or do you want to go to court?  I'm trying to tell you and you keep interrupting me."  I asked why, if they had my cell phone number and my address from six months ago, this is the first I'm hearing about money I owe from more than six years ago.  He said they've been trying to get a hold of me all this time.  I asked to be transferred to his manager.  He was being very rude and treating me like I was too stupid to understand what he was saying.  I told him that I understand that he is saying that I owe for an old credit card, but that I don't understand what this card is because I don't have any recollection of taking out a card in the past with the First Bank of Delaware.  I asked him if I needed to request a copy of my credit report in order to get any information about this account.  He then said he would transfer me to Charles Mooney, and that he didn't want to do that because "Charles Mooney is a real d*#&, ok?  He's a real d*#&, I'll just warn you" but that he was going to have to do it.  Charles Mooney came on the phone and told me that maybe the lawyers would allow me to settle and asked if that's what I would like.  I said I'd like some paperwork/info about this debt, and he said they will give it to me in the subpoena, so I should just go to court.  Or, would I like him to help me and contact the lawyers?  I said sure, and he said "I'll talk to the lawyers right now and see if it's too late for you to settle," then put me on hold.  That's when I hung up.  Um, you have a lawyer waiting in the wings just in case you get me on the phone and I'm willing to discuss a settlement?  Yeah, right!

These people have called my cell phone, my parents, and they even got to my boss through the company operator! Each time they threaten the exact same thing. They even threatened my boss saying they were sending an armed officer to serve me unless I called them back! I had to explain to my boss that it was a scam, that my bank info was compromised earlier this year & I filed a fraud alert with all of the credit agencies. I pay for credit monitoring & each time I get one of these calls, I double check my credit report & nothing is ever on there. They are scaring my parents & even though I keep telling them it's a scam & to not give them any information, they still worry that something is going to happen. I haven't had any debt for YEARS!! My credit report is squeaky clean! I wish there was a way to get these low lifes to stop harassing everyone.

Wow! Just got this message about a pending restraining order from them. Took the recorded voice mail and called them back knowing that they are scamming me... Played the recording back to them over and over again... seems like they didn't like that happening to them. They called back immediately and they got the same recording back at them. Every time they called... they were immersed in that ROBO-Voice over and over again... Hmmm they stopped calling that's strange. ** WHEW** that stopped that nasty ol' restraining order. I wish all court matters could be settled this way. Muhahahahaha

I called back and talked to a woman who said that American Asset Center was not a collection agency. HA. I really hope they call again because I recorded the conversation also and I will forward them to my atty too. This people are predatory collectors and are violating the law.

Prank Call
American Asset Center has been calling my 79 yo mother-in-law threatening her with legal action against her.  The outfit is a total fake. No legal action is valid when it is delivered by a recorded message!  I called and wanted to see what their scam was all about. I called the number, pressed 2 for pending legal matters. I got right through but I got the feeling that they could tell I was not the older lady they called so she said they were looking for someone else and to disregard the call. Darn!  Wanted to get into it with them!
My advice is to call them back and keep them on the phone as long as you can, argue with them and just generally try to drive them crazy!! Just keep calling them!  Make up fake case numbers if you have to!  LOL
