Scammer - looking for contribution to non-existent Police Fund - when asked what Departments in my area were getting the contribution - unable to - just vague nondsense.

Keep getting  phones calls from this number (1-815-687-8476) 3 times a day, everyday. Says it is Illinois Police (fake outfit) looking for donations or says nothing at all. I let it go into voice mail. Never leaves a message. This has been going on for a month and a half so far.

Yesterday, around 7:41p.m., the phone rang, at first I was skeptical about the number, but I saw the area code 815.  My daughter lives in this area code so I picked it up.  A man explained why he was calling and asked would I be interested in donating to the IL Police Association for wounded officers.  I told him I was a member of the FOP for many years.  He was excited to hear and asked would I be willing to contribute a donation of $30.  Upon my answer he transferred me to a woman who asked for my name, address; and my commitment to return the letter which they will send me via mail and asked that I return it with the donation.
I felt silly, hoodwinked, because I gave them my name and address,  I'm not sure what they can do with it. but up until now I have been very careful about sharing personal information with anyone.  However, I did report it through FOP's website to the IL States Attorney General's office and will forward any correspondence to the office. Oh, by the way the real  IL Police Association is located in Elmwood Park, IL (708) area code and will give you access to all charters and lodge numbers and contact person.  Be careful, hindsite can be stressful.

Oct. 21,2013, just got a call from this number. Looked it up and see it's a scam. Why can't the real police do something about it. It scared the hell out of me seeing Illinois police on my caller ID.

I happen to know my local police department doesn't hire people to make calls for donations.

Illinois Police called at 2:30 pm Tuesday, October 15,2013.  My answer machine picked up call.  No message.  I checked the number and it says leave a number.  I found out it is a scam. Why is this allowed seeing I am on a do-not-call- registration list?

Have received NUMEROUS calls from this number for the past week or so; one call was made as early as 8:22 A.M. in the morning!  Caller ID shows the caller as: Illinois Police, but I don't answer it anyway, just to see if they will leave any kind of a message on my answering machine (figuring that *IF* the calls are legitimate, some sort of message would be left).  No messages are ever left, and sometimes they hang up before the answering machine even has a chance to answer.  Needless to say, this is becoming extremely annoying; but, after reading some of the other posts on here, there is apparently little that we can do to put an end to this type of harassment.  I am beginning to better understand why more and more people are getting rid of their land line phones!

I called the County Sheriff's dept. this morning about this number and was told they had already received complaints.  They had called the number and received no messages, etc.   She said never to answer the number, and they were looking into it.

We have gotten a call from these people three or four times. Every time caller ID says Illinois Police. First time my son answered and they asked for Bridget. Said there was no Bridget here and they asked for someone over 18. Son said there was no one (there really was) and they hung up on him. Second time husband answered, again they asked for Bridget. Husband said she doesn't live here, and they hung up. He then proceeded to call them back, to see if someone from the "police dept" would answer. Just got an answering machine that would never go through to a "rep". Just now got another call from them, again asking for Bridget. I went ahead and I said I was her (even though I'm not), they then proceeded to ask me to donate to their "fund". I promptly told them no thanks and to please stop calling. How dare them for using Illinois Police on their caller ID, this should be illegal!

I have been getting this call last few days. I let the answering machine pick it up. No message! It is obvious that it is a fraud or prank call.

I know NOBODY from  ILLINOIS POLICE as this is a scam as usual. This was on September 14,2013 at 10:31 AM CT on a Landline! UGH!

Said he was from the Illinois Police.  I told him I would check with my local police.  He said alright.  I never checked with my local police because I figured it was a scam.  Got another call and let the answering machine pick up.  No answer.  On the first call he called me Barbara and I told him he had the wrong number but I did not tell him my first name.  He just started in with his conversation.

I just got a call from Illinois Police of this number but when I answered it they hung up? Maybe it's cause it was a telemarketer and they thought I was a kid cause I do sound very young. Any ideas?

I have been getting the same call the past couple of weeks.  It says Illinois Police on the caller ID.  I haven't answered the call yet and they don't leave a message.  I am on the no call list, so what's up with the calls?!

Says Illinois police. Claims to be raising funds. Asked for husband who is listed as phone owner. There is no such thing as Illinois Police but it sounds official. Another scammer who asked we send money for families of police killed in line of duty. He represented himself as an officer so that is clearly illegal

They aren't calling for the Illinois State Police ,and we don't call to solicit funds for ourselves.
if you see Illinois Police on your caller ID ,it is being spoofed. don't answer it.

Been receiving same - thanks for your reporting as nuisance call - been receiving most days but have ignored as live in Illinois and that's not what our police are called.  First time called, got scared because of thinking it was to notify of an accident to family member or something.  This site and folks reporting much appreciated.

Same as ya'll, 'Illinois Police'.  I answered once and asked them to remove me from list, they said sure, but have called back every day since for two weeks.  I might start asking questions like 'who are you' and 'where are you' to get them to back off.  Seems that'll get your number erased from most scam callers; they don't like being asked those questions.
