Contact your bank as soon as you can to let them know that you just found out information that leads you to believe that the check you cashed was fake. Do not do anything with the money. If you took it in cash, deposit it into the account you cashed it against.  The bank will deduct that amount when the check is returned as fake.  Hopefully by alerting the bank, you can avoid a returned check fee from the bank. If you have any information that may help locate the person who sent you the check, take that to the bank as well.
