Then He gave the call back # as 816-936-4441. He then said his name was Ron Sims. oops! cant remember his name right. Major red flag. This is a scam. we wont give info over phone. worked to hard for the money.

We just got a call from this number and they claimed to be from Social Security. Going to go into my local SS office tomorrow first thing in the morning to find out if it was legit.

We got an e-mail about our retirement claim that we had done on-line. It was signed by a "Claims Authorizer, Work Support Unit, Social Security Administration, 601 E 12th St., Kansas City, MO 64106" Because it was sent on a Sunday morning, we really wondered. The same person called our home phone and left a message early the next week. We still weren't sure what we should do, so we came here and looked at all that everyone had written for this number. We decided to call the SS Office at 1-800-772-1213. The agent there confirmed that the person calling us really did work for them and was actually working on our claim. We called and finished the business we needed to.
All that to say, call the SS Office at 1-800-772-1213 and confirm. You won't be sorry you did that!
(We also have to say that everyone who commented here... was helpful to us in making our own decision. Thank you!)

816-936-3000 REALLY IS THE NUMBER FOR THE SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION IN MISSOURI.
We have been getting lots of spam calls that I have not answered, including this one because I did not recognize the number. BUT IN THIS CASE, IT REALLY WAS SEAN FROM SOCIAL SECURITY trying to verify my husband's recent claim. (He had sent a previous email which we had not received, so he was making follow-up phone calls.) But do be careful anyway, because scammers can use spoofed numbers, pretending to be SSA, your bank, or any other number they choose.

I received the same call from 816-936-3000 and caller ID said Social Security. No message left. I called Social Security and was told they never ask for personal info on outbound calls and would send a letter if they needed information. I spoke with the office in KC and there were no notes on my SSN to let anyone know what it was about.

Received a call from this Number 816-936-3000, was busy so I did not answer. The caller did not leave a message but when I checked the caller ID it said that it was Social Security. I pressed redial and heard a message that told me that the call was from KC Mo. Social Security Office and that there was no further action necessary on my part and that I needed to just a wait awhile and the operator would call again. After waiting awhile I called the KC office and asked them what the call was about and they said that they had no record of any one from that office making such a phone call and that if they had the caller most assuredly would have left a message. I was also told that 1. Any call back number from the KC Office will have 877 as the area code (this indicates a toll free number. 2. There is no reason for any social security office to call you to validate or verify your personal information. I then called the national Social Security phone number and reported the incident to them along with the fact that it was a registered land line in KC. Also please remember that if there is any reason for Social Security to call it will be from the office most local to you. Not someone from out of state.

Did the SS office ever reach you? Do you believe the caller misrepresented that the SS office was trying to reach you? I have the same occurance & don't know whether I need to drive 1 hr. to the nearest SS office in case it is really them trying to reach me.
