If you can't give any information out over the phone, then don't ask for any personal information over the phone. Lean to have manners and respect for the people you are calling on behalf of these hospitals and drs. Leave messages and don't call more than once or twice a week if you have to. Better yet, why don't you leave your home number for the people to call you back. I am sure they wouldn't mind calling you two or three times a day.

SCAMMERS! I AM a healthcare professional and it does NOT violate HIPPA to leave a general message. And, if they were actual debt collectors, they would have the personal information and definitely DO NOT EVER GIVE YOUR SSN OVER THE PHONE! I wish there was a way to prosecute these snake-in-the-grass scammers!

So far they have called me twice - first call was from 843-489-1835 - I answered the phone and kept saying "Hello, Hello, Hello" and there was no one there.   The second call came from 817-358-7000.  If the bill is I think it is from - they refused to bill my secondary insurance and when I sent the forms to them - they refused to fill out the forms and sent them back to to file with the doctors signature scibbled on one of the bills from them and the insurance company wouldn't accept that.  I sent it back to the doctors and they refused to fill out the form again.    They sent me a bill recently and I told them I wasn't going to pay for their mistakes and if they wanted the money they could deal with my old insurance company and gave them another copy of the old insurance co.  We haven't had them for over a year.

I can certainly understand everyone's fustration as I am in the same boat. I can't stand collectors either but we really can't blame them for calling after 8:00pm. The law states they can call as late as 9:00pm and as early as 8:00am. It's the law that allows them to do such. I don't think they are suppose to call so many times in a day either because that is harrassment. Also these hospitals are the ones who hires these collectors to try and get the money owed to them so calling the hospital and complaining about them wont help. The law needs to stiffen up on harrassing collectors but until then we're just out of luck. I do know that if you can prove that you are being harrassed by a collector, you can sue them.

It is a violation of the FDCPA to call after 9:00 PM local time.  Additionally, of they leave a message they legally can't call again the same day.  Sounds like a 3rd party collection agency with no morals.

Interesting since they called me but I have no medical bills.   Seems fishy to me.  I have also received no bills in the mail.

I'd have no problem with the calling (if I owed anything), but it's pretty damned rude to call and not leave ANY message. It does NOT violate HIPPA to leave the name of the company and a general message, ie, "this message is an attempt to collect a debt."

Trust me. I *am* a doctor.

NPAS does not accept email. B***s***. After living in my crappy apartment complex where I had to fight to get management to contact me about issues with the apartment through email for my records, that you get everything in writing. Documentation is the key. I will not answer this call. If they do not accept emails, they can send me a letter.

I pay my bills. Even if you are paying your bills, they will still go to a debt collector. The debt collector told me the hospital updates when bills are paid monthly. Once you call the collection agency, they stop calling as much but will tell you that they will still call periodically. So paying your bills is not a sure fire way of not getting calls. IF you are lucky enough to be able to pay of 30 grand in surgeries at one time then more power to you. I am not fortunate enough to be able to do this Maybe you could pay my bills for me. lol

I'm not sure whether Holy Cross Hospital or NPAS has made a claim under my name for Part B Medicare but I don't have part B, never claimed to have part B and my Medicare card provide at admission and later in numerous letters, a copy was provided says Part A only. Now Medicare sends a document listing 6 different parties making claim for reimbursement for Part B-all denied (of course) but then another Medicare Branch CMS is demanding refund or repayment if I collect. Is that an example of government reverse logic or just stupidity?  Now I?m on a watch list for FRAUD-Medicare collection even though they denied any payment and want money back even though they have not paid anything to any claimant. I NEVER MADE ANY SUCH CLAIMS.
I?m in the same class as Identity Thieves, embezzlers, money launderers, counterfeiters-Treasury Department, Secret Service criminal. NPAS-I'm coming after you.

HCA medical billing. aka "Empasse". Called by them about payment made prior. Late billing by insurance creates this argument months later. To my knowledge, paid already.

Debt Collector
The caller ID shows 800 358 8000. No name.  On 9.12.13  I stepped on a slippery set of steps, fell backwards at a private business. Bashed my head, concussion, cut scalp 11 stitches and more. One time emergency care BY 3 DEPARTMENTS at Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring MD started the collection harassment. I provided EACH a copy of Medicare (I'm 78) coverage , copy of notice from Veterans Admin that VA would pay for emergency care outside VA system, Document from Assistant Deputy Chief that I'm a member of covered GI's, copy of my veterans Medical Center ID,  for reference, copy of invoices to each of 3 providers, letter of explanation, Full name of contact person at VA Medical facility in DC, full address, and room number plus phone number. It's not NPAS fault that the hospital smart alecks don't want to do their job. They will.
Caller was a little evasive but did say he represented the hospital. Providers have yet to contact my VA rep. since it might mean writing a letter or sending my Rep an invoice. ALL THAT TROUBLE-WOW!   It's easier to bash away at me-you owe us-you are responsible-NO THE VA IS MY MEDICAL INSURER and they are responsible and have stated as such, IN WRITING and just like they would do for Care First/ Kaiser Permanente and all the rest-go get your money from the insured.

Prank Call
Yes, real collection companies leave messages. It sounds like they find charge off (uncollectable) patient accounts and scam people into paying by harrassing them. Call your state's department of comsumer affairs.

I called the number back and it takes you through steps...doesn't say who they are...yet says be prepared to give SS#, address, etc.....so I stopped there.  I do owe a medical bill which I have been paying $50 every month and now only owe $30.  It was only $289. I don't know why they would send to collections though.  But I'm not going to talk to someone who does not give their company name.
