Here is a transcript of the call verbatim:

"Hi, uh, this is John from the shipping department of Emergency Medical Alert, I was calling to uh schedule a delivery of your medical alert system, it's uh the "fallen, and I can't get up" type of system you've seen on TV. Looks like the system's been uh recommended by thousands of hospitals and medical professionals, uh, let's see, says here that the system's already been paid for. Looks like you're getting the system because uh either yourself, a friend, a family member or maybe even someone you know has experienced a fall in the past so uh again it's already been paid for so there's no cost to you whatsoever. Also says here that the shipping has already been paid for so to uh schedule the delivery of your Emergency Medical Alert System press 1 uh again to uh have your system shipped out to you press 1 now...press 5 to decline the shipment of your system."

Ditto all the above.  Robo call mistaken for a live person.  Freaky!

Medical alert scare tactics seem to be the new "in" thing!

"YOU ARE A TELEMARKETER, AND I DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH ANY COMPANY THAT USES TELEMARKETING AS A FORM OF ADVERTISING" (stolen from a comment on this web site -- I love it).  And do not answer name unavailable ever as calls are now starting to say that often.  Another comment from this web site says: When you press the number to have your number removed, all you do is confirm that your number is a working one.  Now I either block the numbers or I don't answer the phone at all.  Another comment was:  They sold your known active number to another scammer!!!  That is what they do when you call them back to opt out.  SO DON?T HAVE YOUR NUMBER REMOVED!

Let me explain my idea of ROBO CALLS. Each area code has 9,999,999 numbers fyi (7 digits). The program starts calling every number that it can in succession.  So they don't need to buy or obtain lists from anyone.  I am going to copy and paste and post this info for each number that calls me for this web site (9,999,98 numbers more to copy and paste to)

NOTHING IS GOING TO STOP THESE SCAMMERS AND LAZY COLLECTION AGENCIES who call everyone with the same name instead of looking up the right one and all we can do is block them or use call forward selective..  DNC does not work when they are robo dialing all possible random numbers. The authorities can not or will not help either.

So, just block them, DON'T ANSWER UNKNOWN CALLS, and continue using this great site for information to be in control of your own home and cell phone calls.  If it turns out that you did not answer a call from someone you know (number not on this site), just call them back.  No problem.  It?s a lot of work that I do (checking the number on this web site, blocking the caller, and making my own excel spreadsheet of numbers) but at least I FEEL like I have a little control of the situation. Maybe I'm delusional.

ITS OUR LIFE AND WE NEED TO TAKE IT BACK.

This is a Dallas/Ft. Worth area number. Both times John tells me he needs more info to ship my medical alert device. Both times I have asked to be removed from the call list.

We just got this call, at first I thought it was a real person but realized it was a recording. He said someone had paid for a medical alert system and they needed our address to ship it. Press 1 to give them an address, press 5 to cancel.

If a friend or family member paid for this, they wouldn't need my address. I knew it was a scam. Probably you have to pay for the service. I can see though that elderly people might fall for this thinking it was free.

No Caller ID, just number.

This number called my elderly parents advising them that someone has hacked into their computer and if they were to turn the computer on, they would help them check it out.  I told my parents to just hang up or don't answer the call, they may be trying to access their computers to look for their id!!

These dirtbags call but don't leave a message.

What gets me is our number has been on the "no-call" list since its inception, and never has been "off" the list.  Yet we get this sort of thing all the time now.  It's as if the "no call list" is useless.

WHat's the point of having the "no call list" if it isn't going to work?

A recent development that folks should be aware of are what I believe might be "scout" calls, where the CID is "Out of Area" and there is NO number.  Can't block 'em, can't trace 'em.  About a week after receiving a few of these "numberless" calls, we get calls from dirtbags like these guys.

So I'm guessing that these "numberless" OUT OF AREA calls are just the fore-runners of these types of calls.  THe problem is, there's no way to "report" a "numberless" unwanted call!

This is the third call I've gotten from these idiots.  My phone company told me that if I will hit *60 as soon as I pick up the receiver without answering, it will block future calls from this number.  These scum bags don't have anything better to do than to spam people.

This is the worst I've seen! Saying you have already paid for this "emergency alert system" Is the worst tactic I've heard so far. Before it was a "credit alert"
I'm also on Do Not Call. Where is a fraud reporting agency? Who is responsible for prosecuting these trolls! And who is the company that hired these people?
We need to get to the bottom of this, and expose companies who use this tactic.

Received a call from this number and a recorded message with the same info as many above - a medical alert system that has been paid for by someone else, press 1 to accept delivery.  Did not press 1!

I don't understand what the idea of these calls is .... but I agree, there are way too many of them.

Prerecorded message indicating a free medical alert system is ready to ship. Have received this same call at least 10 times in the last couple of weeks. This time I pushed 1 as directed to confirm order and all I got was some beautiful piano music

Automated call made to sound like someone is on the line flipping through paperwork.
"The system is already paid for and shipping is free" makes it sound like an older person has no choice except to accept this SCAM.

I received a call from this number on my home phone. CID = V50110473705553. I was searching here before it finishing ringing so I didn't answer. They are now blocked on Ooma.

It wouldn't surprise me to hear it was from Medical Alert. People think that since we hit 60 we need every medical device and aid ever invented!

Received a call from this number midday. Picked up, said "Hello," and a recorded message started saying something about seniors, and I hung up.

What is the point of these spam phone calls? I don't get it. Really, if anybody has an answer I'd like to know.

What I do about them: Since they come through on my cel phone, I save them as a contact Z-DNC-817 (or whatever area code they have - Z is so they'll go to the bottom of my contact list), then set the ringer to NO RINGER. At least that way I'm not bothered by the call coming in, but I still have to deal with whatever message they leave.

Any other suggestions for dealing with these aggrevating waste of time spammers would be most welcome.
