Its CitiBank rep from outside the US thus the system doesnt let you call the number back. In my case it was a representative for my Citibank card that I had asked to call me back.

This number belongs to CitiFinancials.  I have an Office depot credit card and my purse was stolen, so they were calling me back to tell me they had cancel the old card and a new card was being mailed.  And if I needed to dispute any charges to just call customer service.

Exact same thing happened to me...strange to say the least. When I answered the woman on the other end spoke broken English at best with a east indian accent. When I told her there was protocol to receive any information which was never to be obtained directly through me, she apologized profusely almost as if she was trying to end the call quickly... probably to move on to the next target.

Update to previous post.  I got the phone number for Sears from their website and talked to their fraud department.  The nice gentleman was able to confirm from my phone number and last name that we do not have an account. He told me that phishing calls escalate between Thanksgiving and Christmas. He told me that if we get another call to not give any information. He said we should not even verify our name.  He also confirmed that the message left on my voicemail is very similar to the one that Sears Fraud Department uses and leaving the actual Sears 800 number on the message is another trick that criminals use to get SSN and account numbers. If you get one of these calls you should call the number on the back of your credit card or look on the Sears website and provide the phone number where you received the call and your last name and they can let you know if there is a real problem.

This does appear to be a scam.  We let the number go to voicemail and man with slight accent said there was suspicious activity on our Sears MasterCard -we cancelled our Sears card 15years ago.  They tried to get us to sign up for their MasterCard program but we said no and cancelled the card. 15 years and we never activated a card so this has to be fake. So far today we have had 3 calls from different scam numbers. One other call went to voicemail and you could hear call center activity in background -they were not speaking English. Foreign telemarketing criminals.

Left a message for husband about Sears MasterCard.  We cancelled our Sears card 15 years ago but man with a slight accent said we need to call him about suspicious card activity. If the suspicious activity happened 15 years ago then they are a little late letting us know.  Obviously a SCAM

received a call from this number, saying they were Citi bank and said someone just called them and said they had found my credit card. The caller recited the last four digits of my citicard, plus another card which is attached to that account, and said they would have to close my account to prevent fraudulent activity. She then asked for my address. I said I was uncomfortable giving out that information to someone who was unidentified. She gave me her I.D. number, yet I was not happy about giving information out. I said I would call Citi myself and take care of it. Couple of suspicious things: 1. I had left my card at a gas station. 2. caller I.D. on my phone which listed "Citi-817-490-6499" when I called back was a non-working number 3. When I called Citibank, they said no one had reported a lost card, nor had my accounts been closed. Citibank suggested this was a fraud call, trying to get information to use the credit card. Just seemed too coincidental. P.S. Located the lost credit card at a local gas station.

its not SCAM, its citi banks number where i also get the returned call for my query and for my complain. they were polite and did not ask me any personal info, rather just asked my name and told me what is happening and answered my questions.. that's it.. so definitely not a scam.

Got 14 calls in 2 days. Located the number in Ronake TX. Calles sharris's office in Roanake, TX, and filed a harasment complaint thru them, and notified Texas Attorny General of the problem. Placing number on do not call list will do nothing, but filing a complaint with legal channels sholud have the number "puller" by AT&T. Good luck.

This is from Citi financial auto. It is an automobile financing agency and a terrible one. I have them and my payments are up to date but a few days before my payment is due every month they start calling. They call a few times a day starting VERY early in the morning and continuing until after 11:00 pm. When I inform them that I have just made a payment or that my payments are up to date they tell me they just want to set up the next one. i tell them it is not legal to call after 8pm and they very rudely tell me to "deal with it" I don't think any of them actually speak english, just read from a script because they can't answer any questions they just repeat themselves until you respond or hang up. They just seem desperate like they NEED the money.

I have been getting calls from this and a few other 817 numbers for 3 or 4 days. never a message.
Has all the earmarks of a scam.
The bad guys are probably:
1. "spoofing" the CID (faking the caller ID)
2. using  "daemon dialer" software that sequentially dials an entire block of numbers. If the dialer doesn't get a live voice it automatically drops the call and moves on in the sequence.

The area code is for Roanoke, Texas. This number has called me several times, but humorously enough, I've been unable to answer each time due to various circumstances. Anyway, I guess I know to add it to my blacklist now.
