Usually not home, they never leave a message, if I do answer they ask for someone else, when I tell them AGAIN they have the wrong number, they either just hang up, or today the guy apologized and said they would mark it as a wrong number, but I suspect they will call again.

No one speaks but if you wait for a moment, they come on the line...like most call center calls.

No sooner than a call from Castroville, Texas, comes in from some whiny kid (830-355-2401), then I get a call from Portfolio Recovery... Funny thing, one always follows the other... Beware of these two numbers: 830-355-2401 and 817-500-9094... I owe you nothing!!!

They called about a debt over 10 years old on my phone asking for a friend I am caring and supporting.  Do to health problems the person who owed the debt has not been able to work in over 4 years and will never be able to work again.  She has had no income for over 4 years.  The company didn't care.  They just want money on an account that is past collection.  They never even felt any compassion for her.  Scumbag company that wants to collect on old dead debts.  So sorry that there are scum companies trying to drain blood from a dead body.

I'm assuming this was Portfolio Recovery again after reading this. They've been calling my number (which I've had since 2008) for the past 2 years. I used to answer, but the caller always hung up. No messages...ever. Don't know who they're looking for. Why they're looking for them. I can't block the calls because they call from OH, TX, CA, GA, and I believe even PA. I've lost track. They usually call once, sometimes twice a day.

The thought of changing my number has crossed my mind, but I've had it so long. The calls don't really bother me THAT much. I just ignore them. It's not that serious. Sad practice on their end. I don't know how they collect anything.

Quick review, cut to the basics:  Nobody "owes" Portfoolio Recovery experts anything. Just because they call themselves "debt collectors," do not go into knee-jerk mode, thinking you or anybody "owes" them anything at all. Do not feel guilty, do not feel obligated.
The only way you owe anybody anything is if the collector is somebody you have done business with, obtained goods or services from, and they can verify the debt belongs to you, and was not paid. In the case a verifiable debt exists, the creditor can hire collectors to try to get the payment from you. Portfoolio's debts 1)have already been written-off by the original creditor, and 2) are NOT verified, and are not verifiable. (The statute of limitations means a legitimate creditor cannot sue you if the debt is past SOL, but a legitimate creditor can still pursue payment. Where a debt is not and cannot be verified, the statute of limitations is irrelevant. You already have no obligation to pay an unverified debt. Many of Portfoolio's "debt" belong to somebody else, or were paid off, or were settled in bankruptcy. Portfoolio is not interested in details like whether the debt is yours or not, they just want to bully the unwary in paying them cash, or better yet, obtaining your bank acount information. )

Portfoolio cannot verify the debt is yours, in most cases. Their lawyer, Pearson, admitted as much in writing. What Portfoolio is doing is running an extortion scam, a legal one, but still an extortion scam. They hope to intimidate you into sending cash for their recovery facility. Ignore them. Do not ever even talk to them. If they bought a line in a print-out from some bank, that is entirely Portfoolio's problem. Let them go pound sand.

These slime sucking scum warts never give up.  They appear to have endless phone numbers attached to their name.  At least we get that so we can avoid answering.  So far they have used the following numbers:
678-265-1576
626-209-2244
626-209-2244
602-842-7194
404-941-8908
847-915-4052
404-719-4368
205-396-3619
817-500-9094
All of these are blocked on my system.  They seldom use any given number more than once.  I keep the ringer off on my phone so caller ID is the only way I know if someone I know calls me and then I call them back.   Caller ID shows that these Portfolio sub-human pieces of m***e have called as early as 7:10 a.m. and as late as 10:25 p.m.  They don't call every day but they do call often.   Really the only thing we as consumers can do is block the numbers as often as necessary and ignore their scams.  Every citizen knows the so called "Do Not Call List" is a joke and state attorneys general have bigger fish to chase.  Just think how many folks would vote for an attorney general who put some bite into scam calls - but we all know it's just not a high priority.   If there is a hell let's hope they land up there.    (ps: like many others, I have no debt and only one credit card that gets paid off every month)

After I ran out of 'slots' to block numbers from PRA (had the ability to block 100 numbers on my GS4), I installed a free Android app, Mr. Number.  Every time these bottom feeders call from a new number the app doesn't recognize as spam, I add it to the app's database.

I guess they are on a roll today. They have called 2 times today ( mothers day) so far. I have them blocked with a app I have , I have never gotten so many calls in my life. This all started back in Feb 2014. I have blocked 16 of their numbers! Yes, 16! They keep calling. I have never given them info and the number is always blocked. They have left a couple of messages over the last few months(before I blocked them) and they are rude and very threatening. They are not professional and I would not give them any of your info.

I picked up the 2nd time they called today (Mother's Day) after reading the posts.  Portfolio Recovery.  Said they wanted to set me up on a Debt Repayment for a Mastercard.  I have gone through paying off many credit card and debt collectors last year.  Pretty sure I paid that one off.  He claimed they sent me a letter.  I'll read it and trace my records but after reading about them.  All I can say is they are now BLOCKED.
