I received a call from this number. I did take out a loan but I had never been contacted before. They sent me verification via email and I paid it and received a letter stating it was paid. They did scare me and I didn't know if they could really serve me but I talked to a friend who works in collections and they said that a debt purchaser can sue IF they want to since they now own the debt. She also said that any company can sue you over a bill if they want to as long as they own the debt.

I dont know about every one else but this wasnt a scam for me.

Just saw these posting and received a call.

Complete scam even though they sound serious.

Just hang up the phone. Check your credit reports often and keep an eye on all your accounts.

Just left a message on voice mail at work, sounds like a robo call. Not sure who they are or who they are looking for. Turned over to security staff to follow through. Don't under any means verify any information.  Threatening and harassing to send some one to serve you with a summons.  People do not call when they are going to serve summons. Reported to our legal department as well, trying to track these scam artists down. Message also saved and sent to local PD, Sheriffs Dept and Attorney Generals office. We do not tolerate calls like this at our work place.

Keep getting called at work. Have ask them to stop, they won't, they say this is a payday loan from 2009. Yet they have my work number from a job I started in 2011. It is a automated recording and anyone can answer the phone. Many of my fellow nurses have answered and it is embarrassing. I called them and told them to stop calling my work. They tried to tell me they don't have a recorded or automated calling system. The Hospital I work at has started a phone tree it worked for awhile but now they are by passing that. I am so pissed! I could lose my job!

SCAM ALERT. DO NOT GIVE THEM INFO. THEY SAY they will serve you with criminal charges, they dont have this power. And they are giving you your rights over the phone. They say they are OGA LOL which is another term for other government agency when you are in the military. They claim they are in PA, and Ms. Watson is in S. Carolina. They will not provide information to the actual location, they will not provide data on the debt. These are criminal people. File an FBI complaint on them now.

We need to stop them in their tracks.

Washington, D.C. February 21, 2012

FBI National Press Office (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) continues to receive complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. As previously reported in December 2010, the typical payday loan scam involves a caller who claims the victim is delinquent on a payday loan and must make payment to avoid legal consequences.

Callers pose as representatives of the FBI, ?Federal Legislative Department,? various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies and claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, or other Internet check-cashing services. The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment in attempts to obtain payment. The callers refuse to provide information regarding the alleged payday loan or any documentation and become verbally abusive when questioned.

The IC3 has observed variations of this scam in which the caller tells the victim that there are outstanding warrants for the victim?s arrest. The caller claims that the basis of the warrants is non-payment of the underlying loan and/or hacking. If it?s the latter, the caller tells the victim that he or she is wanted for hacking into a business? computer system to steal customer information. The caller will then demand payment via debit/credit card; in other cases, the caller further instructs victims to obtain a prepaid card to cover the payment.

The high-pressure collection tactics used by the fraudsters have also evolved. In one recent complaint, a person posed as a process server and appeared at the victim?s job. In another instance, a phony process server came to a victim?s home. In both cases, after claiming to be serving a court summons, the alleged process server said the victim could avoid going to court if he or she provided a debit card number for repayment of the loan.

If you are contacted by someone who is trying to collect a debt that you do not owe, you should:
?Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger;
?Contact your bank(s) and credit card companies;
?Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file;
?If you have received a legitimate loan and want to verify that you do not have any outstanding obligation, contact the loan company directly;
?File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.

I received a phone call from this number stating that there is a check fraud charge attached to my ssn. This is one of these fraudulent bill collectors. Beware of them and do not give them any personal information. Read the following FBI article related to this type of calls:

Washington, D.C. December 07, 2010

FBI National Press Office (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.

If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller?s instructions. Rather, you should:
?Notify your banking institutions.
?Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
?Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
?File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.

Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:
?Never give your Social Security number?or personal information of any kind?over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
?Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
?Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
?Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
?Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
?When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

This number keeps calling my cell and direct line at work using an automated recording that says my name & a man (this time-other times it was a woman) saying they recievefd a fax order for 'my civil complaint' and they have a civil document they need to serve me at work or at my residence so they need me to call back so they can serve me. Obvious scam-why would you need me to call back in order to get that information. I have no debt or collections, but have been getting calls so often I've notified my attorney who's looking into it. I've never called them back, just blocked the numbers although they seem to use another number once i block them.

They keep calling for a supposed debt my son has. He has not lived here for over 5 years but they keep leaving those same scripted threatening messages from the precess server dept.
One good feature about Magic Jack for your phone service is it sends an email for every voice mail message. I has attached the recorded message in all it's glory.  I have about 16 recorded messages to give to the authorities when I get enough messages I'll file complaints.  I am trying to get all the different versions of their threatening tactics. I'm not working now so I may as well have some fun with these bozo's for a little entertainment.

Yes, a few times -- I don't answer nor listen anymore.
This call occurred just minutes after another scam call from: 203-610-6492
I suspect they are related.
Are these numbers being investigated seriously?  or is this just a complaint board that offers no hope for resolution?

They won't show up - your callers are scammers, hoping to scare someone enough that they'll pay some bogus debt. You already know they're not "legit", plus, no one gets a heads up they'll be served - the process server just shows up.  Report the callers to the FTC, FBI, and your state's Attorney General.  Advise the callers that all calls they make to you and your mom are being recorded (and do so).  Per the FDCPA, you should never pay any caller who refuses to mail proof of debt.  In fact, failure to mail this documentation is a violation of the FDCPA.

Per the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) you should never pay any caller who refuses to mail a debt validation letter to you.  Your caller has up to five days from the initial call to you to mail this documentation - per the FDCPA.  This DVL would include original creditor, amount of loan, amount still owed, date of loan and date of last payment.  To say they can't send a DVL because "people try to falsify the document they send" is a load of horse pucky - refusal to mail proof of debt is a violation of the FDCPA.

BTW, failure to pay back a loan does not constitute fraud, let alone "check fraud".  Report your callers to the FTC, FCC and your state's Attorney General.  Advise them that you're recording all calls they make to you.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

These people have been calling at least once a week with the same threats for the last several months. Now, they are calling and threatening my mom and she's retired and on disabiltiy...yet they are looking into going to her place of business to serve her. You tell me whether or not this is legit. This is crazy, but even more so around the holidays.
