Here is a good way to deal with these Hitler Youth rejects and their disreputable tactics; First, never mind the number on your caller ID, it’s virtually always a fake and strictly one-way.  But the call-back number on the voice-mail has to be real, otherwise they could never scam a dime out of anyone.  Also, if you know for sure which collection company it is, visit their website and if the e-mail address under “Contact Us” doesn’t readily suggest a debt collector use that too.  Write a realistic-sounding too-good-to-pass-up add for anything appealing to as wide a range of people as possible using their contact info. - then post it on Craig’s List! The ruinous overload of calls and E-Mails will soon cause their networks to crash and with these vermin, down-time is money down the drain.  The vast majority of collectiods took the short bus to school and are therefore notoriously slow learners, but this method will likely get the point across.

Just got a call from this number.  Guy said, "This turn into a legal issue for you but I'm gonna try to keep that from happening.  I'm a mediator and I have my supervisor right here.  He wants to talk to you so hold on, okay?"  They put me on hold and after about 20 seconds diconnected.  Asked for me by first name and said the company name so fast I couldn't make it out.  Since the call ended the way it did I didn't even have a chance to verify anything.  After reading this, I don't care.  This is a new trend I've seen.  Someone called me about a debt about 2 months ago that is over 13 years old.  First, I dispute that I even owe it, but more than that...it's 13 years old!  I've bought a house, cars, gotten approved for Amex and others since then with no issue.  It seems to me that these guys are bottom feeders that won't get to suckle from my teet.  But I don't judge them.  We all have to eat.

Finally pressed "1" to see whom they were even calling as I haven't had any bad debt in over 7 years and when I told the gentlemen I didn't know whom he was looking for he told me to have my attorney call him as this was a matter with the Federal Government.  Don't believe these people, they are scam artists!

I just got a rude call as well, the first guy told me that he wasn't gonna talk to me about a very important matter because my other phone was ringing.  I called the number back and the lady basically called me a liar saying that I must know this guy David Cooper that put my name down as a reference.  I don't know him and I just got this phone so that's bogus...I think they're scouring the phone books looking for people to bite. I reported them to the do not call list too.

I keep getting calls from this number, they keep my cell looking for a "Daniel Bain", as I've told them 10+ times that I've had my cell number for 15 years and I do not know who Dainel Bain is....they keep saying he put this number down as a contact.  I've told them to erase my number out of their database and the get pissy with me.

I Wouldn’t worry too much about these scum; they are have all the ear marks of one of those pathetic “Basement Bill-Boys” who think they are going to make it big by chasing down expired legally uncollectible junk accounts that are so old  even the filth at NES doesn’t bother with them anymore. (Hell, maybe that’s who sold the print-outs to em’!) CRA stands for all sorts of different organizations, but none on the net seems to have anything to do with collections.  How small-time is that?  If the same number shows on your caller ID each time, try blocking it, it’s quite possibly the only line these small-fry have.

I got a call from them today they said they were gonna file a 1099 (haha) with the IRS about my account from Suntrust over 10 years old.  I asked for their company name.  She said CRA - I asked for their address and telephone number so that I could validate the legitimacy of their business before I gave her any personal information.  She hung up on me.

I received a call today as well..it's actually the 2nd one.  The first time they left a message about a "very important matter that you might not be aware of".

Today she said there was an important matter about some documents and would I hold until she could get her supervisor on the line.  I hung up.

It's unfortunate because I really tried to work with the original company and they were just not flexible at all.  Now everything has been turned over to collections and I just will not deal with them until and unless I absolutely have to.

Can they garnish wages??

these are people who buy old, old debt. the funny part is they think anyone would press '1' for a rep after hearing that tired, weary voice saying 'our office has this number on record for a very important matter....' they are people that think they are going into 'home based business' and buy computer printouts of these old debts. Don't ever talk to them because they have no way of doing anything with any money made except for keeping it. These debts are all beyond the statute of limitations,  thus retired. hahaha whatta scam

I finally went to the Federal Trade Commission Call enforcement division at:
https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx?panel=2

and filed out the online violation form.  I figure with our taxes we can have federal government enforcement of unscrupulous business use of our phone system, which we pay for.

Debt Collector
It's a bill collector, trying to collect OLD debts. These are debts that were written off by the creditors. These vultures buy it, and try to collect what they can.  DO NOT ANSWER THE CALLS. They have no legal recourse. IT's just an annoyance.
