I had several missed calls from this number. I called the number back to hear a heavy accented man answer with several other people speaking in the background. I said to the man "do not call my number anymore." He says to me "why", shocked I said "I will not explain myself, put me on your do not contact list." He stated "I will be sending the police to your door immediately." I replied "OK, hurry up I am hungry." He disconnected the call.

I just got a call from the same number. They didn't leave a message but they did call a friend of mine and told her that they were going to serve her the papers for me and she told them no they weren't. This debt was from when I was in my 20's I am now 50 and i'm pretty sure that it's illegal for them to harrass people for lack of payment.

THIS NUMBER IS A SCAM!!!!  I have been receiving calls from James Womack who supposedly is a representative for Roth and Sterling whom do not exist nor have a business license, stating that I owe some outrageous amount of money from a previous credit card I had 6+ years ago and that I should have been served a summons. I asked James Womack to mail me a bill of what I owe on a their company letter head.  Once I asked him that he made every excuse as to why he could not and suggested he could email me the information.  He did. I then took what he emailed me and went to the local court house in my area to verify if this in fact was true.  I was told those were false documents and that there was no such business in the US by that name.  I also telephoned the credit card company, found out I owed nothing to them and was mailed a letter from that stating that I owe them nothing.  Please don't fall for this scam!  All they are doing it stripping hard working people out of their money!

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Debt Collector
Be careful paying Roth and Stirling anything and do not pay by anything except bank check.  Do not give them CC# or debit card numbers.  Especially over the phone.

I wouldn't trust these guys at all.

I think you are so wrong to say that his wife should pay her debts. What do you know about her financial situation she could have lost her job, or had heath problems and could not pay.. And how about this government that has kept using our hard earned money on spending and raising taxes. I'm so sorry how ignorant you are. Hope you don't ever have to go thru this problem yourself. These collection companies buy these debts for pennies and then collect them with interest that is how they make their money on people that can't pay it in the first place to the original creditor.

Called the number out of curiosity.  They call themselves Roth and Sterling now.   Claim to be a law firm but I couldn't find them on Google.  They could be anyone, anywhere.

Which is why they will not mail you any sort of debt validation.  They don't want their physical address known.  Total debt scammers, kitchen-table type working out of someone's house.

Per the FDCPA, you should never pay any caller who refuses to MAIL - do not accept email or fax - proof of debt/proof that your caller has the legal right to collect.  Refusal to mail this documentation within five days of their first call is a violation of federal law.  Truth is, unless you make the caller mail this proof of debt/proof they can collect that debt, you may be paying a scammer.  Legitimate debt collection agencies have no problem complying with federal law and mailing this to you - PRIOR to paying them.

There are many scams going around, if you paid a bill over the phone, from a collection agency who claims you owe them money. Most likely you were scammed. Always ask for a bill on the company letterhead mailed to you. If they don't want to, somethings up.  Research The fair debt collection act. Also visit clarkhoward.com
