Debt Collector
I have recieved calls from a Jim Rogers of Regional Processing regarding a "debt" and it was imperative for me to contact them back so no further legal action would result. Unfortunately these lowlifes duped me a few weeks ago and i gave them my debit card info. However they got greedy and hit my account twice in one week. My bank flagged it and upon investigating them and also thanks to this site I have found they are a scam. I had to cancel my account and card and open another one so dont be fooled. Hopefully this will save someone the money and hassel. Cuss the POS out when they try you next.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Received two calls from a Tommy Long, Regional Express Couriers - stated a subpeona appeared on his desk for me and to call back.  First of all, Harris County announced just this week that these calls were happening around the city and to ignore them and not send any money, it was a scam.  I just deleted the message - I have been harrassed by these calls for a couple months now.  I just don't answer.

he message was "this is Jim Rogers with Regional Express Carriers calling you regarding the court document from court that needs your signature. I did stop by your house and no one was there so at this time I have filed an affadavit of due diligence to the claimant's office letting them know that I did everything in my power to reach you, this means a guilty plea has been entered without you with this matter. If you want to know where and when you need to appear in court you can contact the firm that processed the order, their telephone number is 844-795-7492".

I too got a message from these scammers. The guy sounded like he was in a call center boiler room. There was a lot of people and noise in the background.  Spoke perfect english, which leads me to believe it's a stateside scam (as opposed to overseas).

First of all, someone has called me twice before a few weeks ago, with this same ridiculous claim that it was a "Subpeona" that I needed to sign for and left a different number of 844-861-2181 as the call back number. The last message they left the dude had an incorrect place of employment for me. I haven't worked at that place in 10 years, lol. Go ahead, try to "serve" me with a "subpeona" there. Schmucks.

Secondly, a reasonable person would not call the "Claimant" if they were being sued, they'd call the court in their county or city or they'd call their own attorney (if they have one). Thirdly,  I haven't committed a crime, so how can I be "guilty" of anything??? Shouldn't I have been arrested for something to be "guilty" of anything? The only infraction I ever committed was a speeding ticket about 4 years ago and that's long been paid off, and my DMV record reflects it!!!

This is purely fraudulent. How can people with a conscience work for a company that is clearly breaking the law??   I'm filing a complaint with the FTC for both this phone number and the other two calls which were more than a nuisance, they are downright illegal. It's time for this scam to end.

Per the FDCPA, you should not pay any caller who refuses to MAIL - do not accept email or fax - proof that you owe a debt and proof that your caller has the legal right to collect said debt.  Refusal to mail this documentation is a violation of federal law.  If there was a lawsuit against you, you'd have gotten a surprise visit from a process server - no announcement beforehand!  Please also print up this thread and give to your HR Dept and/or supervisor - you're being harassed by a scammer.  More info here:

A guy named John Triplett contacted me at work today (and I'm a teacher).  Super embarassing.  I called and asked what it was about and he said there was a lawsuit against me.  When I asked him to send me that information in writing or by email he refused and said the only way to stop from being sued is to give him my credit card number.  Yah right.  He did say he was going to keep harassing me at work.  Even call my principal.  I don't know what to do.  Any advice.
