I also got a text message purportedly from an e-mail address "linda@montclair-art.org" stating "(NOTICE) Your Valley National Bank bill service is expired, for renewal please call us toll us toll-free 845.210.3586 ASAP"
I don't know the sender and I don't bank at Valley National. Also, area code 845 is certainly not toll-free. I called the Montclair Art Museum in NJ and found out that they don't use that particular form of e-mail address anymore. This is clearly a phishing scam.

I received this text message yesterday (3/2/08), as did my 13 year old son, and my sister. I just called Valley National Bank and they told me that this is a fraudulent message. I checked their website and they have a notice to delete this fraudulent message immediately.

Valley National (in Wayne NJ) has posted a fraud alert on its website, but 845 is in NY state - so this scam would have to be reported to NJ state or NY state; or the FCC?? FYI on other post about imagine schools - they don't have sites in NJ or NY, so the link to an 845 number is odd. There's no clear pathway on reporting this sort of criminality on any of the sites.

I used to have a company issued cell phone that I used for quite some time, but it was transferred to another employee a year and a half ago. He recently contacted me, asking if I had a Valley National Bank account. Turns out he received this text msg and believed it was legitimate and intended for me! I've never worked with VNB and 845 is definitely not toll free. Beware...
