Asked for someone not at my number -- refused to identify himself.

These people are calling me constantly always looking for someone who does not live here.  When I call back and ask them to stop calling they do so for a couple of weeks but then the calls start again with a recorded message asking for a new name.  They never ask for anyone who actually resides at my house and we do not owe money to anyone.  I'm ready to sue for harrassment!  This is indeed a slimey, abusive, disreputable company!

You might be right about training, but few people follow it.  I have tried to work with different collection agencies since losing my job and they don't want to work with me.  They want all or nothing.  I've had some that refused to send paperwork to show they are dealing for the company.  I've had some that refused to take a money order and only wanted a credit card number.  Which I will not give to an unknown company even if I had one that was still active.  I've had some that I told what was going on and have them call back later with a completely made up story of the conversation.  Luckily I have always recorded my conversations on the computer with these agencies and when I played back the conversation with the exact same gentleman and it was completely different than what he was telling me, he hung up without a word and I haven't heard from that company again.  I've even had a couple of agencies call my neighbors and in one case my landlady and tell them my children/grandchildren have been hurt and I need to call immediately.  Which is funny because I am single and have no children or grand kids.  You yourself do not know the privacy laws.  No employer current, past or prospective are allowed to give out information.  And if its a prospective you probably just lost the job.  No employer wants to worry about dealing with garnishments or liens.  Too much paperwork.  Your best bet is to contact the company itself that you owe and try to work something out.

First off, whether you want to believe it or not, collection agency employee's undergo training in FDCPA, (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) Google FDCPA, and familiarize yourself with what it is all about. Second of all, I used work for this company, and know for a fact they are not abusive. Your labelling them as being abusive because you more than likely are in financial dire straits, do recognize you owe the debt, and are in a state of panic because maybe you may have recently lost a job, can't find one, or whatever. Do yourself a favor. Admit what your situation is. Do what you can to support what your saying. Show them documentation that your actively seeking employment, get names and phone numbers of prospective employer's, so they can be followed up on. Don't just ignore it, it's not going to go away!

The vast majority of collection agencies are rude, abusive and ignorant.
We continually receive phone calls for someone who has never lived at our residence and when we inform them of it, they scream at us; it's ludicrous and ILLEGAL.
If you're legitimately doing your job, all power to ya; however, YOU CHOSE the profession where people are going to want to be belligerent, especially when you wind up harassing people who have no idea who you're calling for, truthfully.
If you're a debt collector keep your mouth shut about people wanting to run and hide from you and how rude they are, check your own attitudes at the door and stop harassing people and if you really can't take your job, find a new one or kill yourself...evil pricks.

I did not answer the phone call, and all collections agencies are basically nasty.  I used to curse them out.  But I took my sister's advice, and tell them that I cannot afford to pay it right now, and leave it at that, and hang up the phone, and not answer them anymore. I will not spend myself broke, when you have to feed yourself, and children if you have them.  Oh--yea...most of them will not work out a reasonable payment plan in installments.

Debt Collector
Immediate Credit Recovery personnel are rude and abusive. Many people who borrow money in good faith, have hard times and can't pay that money back. It is a business loss, not a moral issue.  Yet, collection agencies like ICR believe they can treat consumers anyway they feel is appropriate.

Here is the deal - it is totally unreasonable for unknown parties to call, then fail to identify themselves or the nature of their call then. These individuals call from numbers that are non-working when people try to call back.

Collection agencies are not privileged to invade the privacy of individuals they are collecting a debt from. Sue people if you want the return of a debt that has gone bad. Serve a judgment but the harassment has got to stop.

Pay your debt? Well when they start calling your house asking for someone you don't even know, like they are in my case, what would you do? I've changed my phone number three times and they still call me.

I do not know a "Pablo Martinez" nor have I ever known anyone by that name.

Debt Collector
Number belongs to ICR (Immediate Credit Recovery), which I believe is a collections agency doing primarily health care and student loan collections. The message only says, "...calling from ICR on an important business matter..." and that it is "not a telemarketing call."  The caller always leave a different number to return the call on (NOT the number that came up on the caller I.D.)
