I just called this number back and they answered "security office."  When I said I saw their number on my caller ID they hung up.

Comes up Capital One.

It is HSBC/Capital One, they are located in Volo Illinois.  It is not a scam operation. It is a division of Capital One now.  It may be marketing unless you do business with them.

I just called this number back and a man actually answered!  He spoke with an Irish/Scottish accent and asked what time I recieved the call.  He said "You are not alone and we are trying to track down where these calls are originating from".  He also asked me if I was an HSBC employee?? (Which I am not).

I did apply for a card yesterday so this could be legit. From HB.

Re. "third party verifying ... a viable number...Caller: HSBC Credit Cards", I don't think so. If true, there should be zillions of posts on this thread from zillions of credit card and job applications (HSBC is a huge international bank) between 9 Sep 2011 (date of first post) and now but I count only 7 excluding this post. My guess is it's a robot collecting numbers on people who will answer calls from numbers they don't recognize to be sold to telemarketers. Beware of shills on this thread.

Correct - I received the call just hours after applying online for an HSBC credit card.

in two weeks.

I applied for a HSBC credit card yesterday, and gave my cell number as contact number.  Today I received a call from this number with automated message "verifying phone number".  I believe it is because of the credit card I applied for yesterday. It is a good number. Not telemarketing, just a part of the verification process. No worries.

Jut applied to HSBC....had the same call except nobody replied when i answered.....saw previous comment in this post stating that maybe it was a verification of the phone number. Sounds logical.

who is calling from this number,  its just a recording, that says,:This number is being placed to validate the phone number.  Thank you for your time".you can't call it back to find out, what is going on,is it a scam or a hack of some kind, i need answers

yes i just got this same call 15 min ago, am a  little worried on what is means is someone hacking my phone?

What everyone said: call, auto mesasge, verifying number, recently applied for HSBC cc.  It's a benign call.

Same as everyone else "calling to validate number", I call back and receive the message "not a valid number please consult your directory"

I had applied for a HSBC credit card last night and gave my cell number as contact number.  Today I received call from this number with automated message "verifying phone number".  I believe it is due to the credit card application I did last night.

I have also received an offer from HSBC recently and received this call today, approximately one week after applying.

I just received a call today from this number and it said they were validating the number, thank you. It was an automated message.

Think I did the same HSBC offer and got a call from that number today.

Me to, this is my second call and didn't recognize the number either time so I never answered. this doesn't make any sense.

I recently applied for a credit card with HSBC. It is probably the bank itself or a third party company hired by the bank to verify if the phone number i listed on the application is a real or a fake phone number. It is a number they use for testing or for telemarketing.

Need to find out why this number is calling me. No message left on my cell phone.

Just so ya know...this is a third party verifying that the number you put on a credit application...or job application etc. is a viable number...Caller: HSBC Credit Cards
