it's called Colorado Technical University because they(CEC, a huge parent company who owns many online diploma mills) bought out a real, physical technical school in Colorado Springs, Colorado some years back so now "they" can say that they have been in business since 1965 - not really true. CTU online is a diploma mill and so now is the old CTU, Colorado Springs. The corporate headquarters for CEC is in Illinois.

They do this to me too, There was a period where they'd call me seventeen times in a three hour period. After a while, I'd pick up and immediately say "Stop calling me"  This past year on Halloween they called my house after not calling for three months and we had quite the argument.. They're begining to call my cellphone again, and when I answer, they hang up.

Good Lord I was checking out taking college on line courses and I guess this place got my number from the one application I started and didn't finish.  They called me within 3 minutes of my number being entered.  Goodness.  Now I have to figure out how to keep them from calling my cellphone!!!!

I submitted an online resume through Monster.com for a Human Resources Trainee position.  Today, I received an e-mail that said they had received my information, and if still interested, please complete their online application and someone would get back to me within 2-3 business days.

I completed the application, which asked for cell phone number and provider which I thought was strange, but because I was enthusiastic/hopeful for an opportunity, I completed the information which asked about college interest.  I felt that I had to complete this section in order to get to the application, but once this section was complete, there was no application!

Looks like this was a "scam" way to get telephone numbers for online college recruiting.

It is NOT a scam, they are calling you because YOU REQUESTED INFORMATION from them online. Or you entered your information at a college website, or a scholarship website.

That is how they get your information, YOU PROVIDED IT.

On Monster it is NOT A SCAM.  Before you submit anything on Monster, you MUST UNCHECK THE BOX THAT ASKS IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE CONTACTED.

Pay attention to what you are filling out online before you go clicking away at everything!

All you have to do is say "PLACE ME ON YOUR DO NOT CALL LIST"...unless you use this specific verbiage, they CAN continue to call you.  Even if you just say you are not interested.  However, you must tell them to place your name on they're DO NOT CALL list and they have to.  If they call you after that they can be fined $10,0000.

Colorado TEch, University of Phoenix, etc...utilize Monster and other scholarship websites for potential students, however CAREFULLY READ THE INFORMATION, and DO NOT AGREE TO ANYTHING WITHOUT READING IT..before you send your info into the WWW all willy nilly...

They will NOT stop calling me. They have called me at LEAST 50 times in the past 2 months. At first I was interested but when they wouldn't leave me alone I just said to stop calling that I wasn't interested and they are STILL CALLING

They call several times per week.  Even though they continually ask for a person's name who no longer owns this number, and I say that the person no longer has this number and that I am not interested in their offerings, they continually call.  The last two people who have called said that they would put me on a "do not call list" within their organization, but apparently they haven't.  I will give them one more week then I will file a complaint with the college.

I do not work for CTU, but I am a student there.  They are a legit school and everyone there tries to do their best to help.  I know that continuous calls are annoying and if you need to call the main number and tell them you do not want to receive any further calls from that school.

If you actually read the other posts you would see that there are a few of us "retards" that do answer and tell them to stop calling.  It stopped working and I can spend my time better by not answering going forward.  I document the calls here hoping that eventually this information gets back to CTU.  Maybe just a pipe dream on my part, but they need to realize that this harassment is causing them to lose students.

I actually did ask for information from CTU.  Spoke to an "enrollment counselor" for about an hour one day.  Told her over and over again that I was going to do some comparison shopping.  Next thing I know, I get a student ID and school books in the mail!!!  I called, sent emails and finally thought I had it resolved, but now get calls from them 2-3 times a week.  No voicemail and I don't answer.  Annoying, especially because I'm waiting for some very important calls I cannot miss.  Ugh.

Hello,

I have worked for CTU online as well as other online universities. I also have many friends who work for different online schools as well. I've been doing this for a long time. These are legitimate schools that get their inquiries from legitimate sources. I may have very well been someone who has called you. But we only called you because at some point at some time, you gave us our number and asked for the information through some channel. Like someone else posted - we called because it is our job to do so, and because we genuinely believe people have asked for the information. I know mistakes happen - numbers change and get reassigned or people sign up your number by mistake. Sometimes people prank their friends this way. Nine times out of ten, though, we have two phone numbers provided to us. I tend to think if someone provided us with a home and cell or work number, they meant it when they clicked "yes" for more information.

If being called is an issue for you, please, don't make it an issue. I guarantee if I call you and you hang up on me, I will call you at least one more time, because as an advisor, I do not know who hung up on me. If I am calling for Joe and I someone random doesn't identify themselves, I don't know if it's Joe hanging up on me or the cleaning lady. I will call it again. If I get it more than once, I move on, but that doesn't mean that someone somewhere else isn't going to get my inquiries and call them at a different time. So don't make it a frustrating issue for yourself. Pick up the call, identify who you are and simply ask that we remove you from the call list. I know where I work currently, it is as simple as the click of a button, it is instant, and personally, I ask no questions. People who ignore the phone calls or pick up and hang up are guaranteed to be called repeatedly. If you don't want the calls, ask them to stop.

Also, a word to the wise: Saying you are just "not interested" may stop the calls for a while, but most universities will keep the numbers and info and file them away for "old business" to rework at a later time. The theory is, maybe you aren't interested now, but six months from now, you may be again. If you absolutely want the calls to stop, definitely indicate that you want to be removed from the call list.

I hope this helps and sheds some light on things. We're not bad people, we work for highly accredited institutions whose business practices are constantly under review in order to keep that accreditation. We take it seriously. I have never yet met an advisor at any level at any online school who was in it to annoy people on the phone. You ask for information, we provide it to you. If there is a mistake, don't get frustrated. Let us know.

First call: They tried to call me when I couldn't pick up and didn't leave a message... A reputable service/business leaves a message. The second time: I picked up and said "hello" the call dropped or they hung up. Third time: My phone rang for a split second and stopped. Forth time: I picked up and spoke to someone and politely asked them to stop calling because I don't want/need them at this time. Fifth, sixth, and seventh time: I answered and was either hung up on or the call dropped.

All of you who feel the need to call people by negative terms "idiots, stupid, etc" just need to calm down. If you cant politely answer the question, then keep your comments to yourself. I came across this site because I too received a call from the 877 number and googled it. Now I know who was calling. I used to be a student and that's how they obtained my information, but I also know that I asked THREE times for them not to call me anymore because I am not interested in continuing my education at this time. Obviously it hasn?t stopped them. But I agree with previous statements, they are not solicitors and if you are receiving a call from them its because you, or someone using your number, offered it as a contact number. I would just inform the caller next time that you would like your number removed from their call list. End of discussion. All the negativity is completely childish and uncalled for. Be an adult people.

Say - "Put me on your do not call list" - these 8 words are, by federal law, to remove you from any lists the company has.  If they call you again, the company can be prosecuted by federal law.
Used to get telemarketing calls all the time and began using this 8 words as soon as they start their "spchel" and never hear from them again.

CTU is a real school with a great program!  You properly filled out information for online schooling and forgot.  Chill!

IT is not illegal because you gave them your number, they do not cold call.

They have better things to do then to deal with people like you!

I keep getting what seems like pocket calls from these people. One message left sounded like people were at a party and the girl that had the phone was wasted. I cant believe this would be a business of any sort. I have 6 "pocket call" type messages on my voicemail. Annoying.
