I get calls from this number sometimes 4-5 times a day. I have had calls at midnight. I got 4 calls today and 1 at midnight and this is Sunday no one is suspose to call on Sundays. I really wish you could help me do something about these calls. Let me know if you can do something or if I can. I have AT&T as a phone provider. Thank-you

call comes in leaves a message that they have a case against me and i have 1 hour to call to verify info or they will be going to my employment then before they hang up they say you have been officially notified . there is no company name with this

I am getting sick and tired of this pervirted SOB calling.  If they don't have the guts to talk we  ought to be able to stop this BS.  I call the do not call number almost every 30 days and still receive these calls.  It seems as though they are calling everyother day.  Last evening 3/9/12 call was at 9:13 PM.  What do we as US citizens have to tell or do to our people in DC to stop this CHEAP BULL S---.  ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.  MAYBE WE CAN GET AN ATTORNEY TO GO AFTER THIS NUMBER.  Maybe make the courts agree that this is uncalled for and harassment.  Enough is enough.

I filed a complaint against this telephone scam with the attorney generals office for the state of Illinois. They wrote back saying that others must complain and then they'll act on it.  So, write a letter of complaint to your attorney general of your state and describe exactly what is going on with this outfit calling  you - maybe this way it can be stopped!  Until you complain to the right people it will go on, and on, and on.  So, become proactive and take care of business!!! Loudly and vocally!!

Sorry but none of you are correct. The number 847-742-0479 is for the AT&T Privacy Manager computer. Privacy Manager is a caller ID type of service that you have ordered and pay for from AT&T. The features purpose is to intercept any call placed to your home where the caller has either blocked their number (*67) or is unknown or unavailable. The AT&T Privacy Mgr's computer will answer the call and tell the caller that "the person you are calling has privacy manager, a caller id service and your number is not identified. To complete your call please say your name or company name at the tone". If the caller says anything at all or in most cases, if the auto-dialer makes any sound, the privacy mgr computer will tell them "one moment please" and place them on hold. It will then call your house, tell you it's privacy mgr calling and that you have a call from XXX (a recording of the sound the caller made). It will then ask you to press 1 if you wish to take the call, 2 to reject or 3 to reject and ask that your name be removed from the callers list.

There are many reasons a call would not be indentified. The most common is when a caller or auto-dialer uses *67 to intentionally block their number. The second most common is when the caller is using outbound watts lines. A watts line is a type of special circuit and callers are billed by the hour and not by each call made. Watts line are circuit numbers such as "5ndcc5067795" and not telephone numbers. Caller ID only id's telephone numbers and NOT circuit ID's which means it can not be identified. If you did not have privacy manager, it would display at unknown caller or out of area on your caller ID. Because you do have privacy mgr, privacy mgr is intercepting the call and forcing the caller to ID themselves just as it is supposed to.

Being on the do not call list only prevents solicitation calls from companies with whom you do not have a relationship with. The DNC list does not prevent political calls, charities, sales calls from companies that you do business with, collection calls etc... Some cell phone providers offer automatic call blocking on all outbound cell calls. If one of your friends has this feature on their cell phone, your privacy mgr will also stop that call and force them to ID themselves.

Note: *57 the call trace option offered by AT&T will not successfully trace a call that has been routed through privacy mgr. It will also not be able to trace a call that would have shown up as unavailable, unknown or out of area. It will be able to trace a call that displayed as private caller but again, only if you do not subscribe to privacy mgr.

Blame AT&T all you'd like but that is not where the problem is. I have 33 years (retired now)experience with AT&T my first 8 years were spent doing traps and traces. They have an excellent team of annoyance specialists who do nothing but deal with these types of situations. They are there to help you.

I have received calls from this number,

woman with strong accent (Indian?) called 3 times.  first time, silence when I answered.  second time, voicemakil saying she wants to meet me for lunch.  third time, silence.

My best guess:    this number will show on your caller ID if you have ATT Privacy Manager in Northwest Chicagoland and if you receive an unidentified call.    To test, call your phone from another phone using the standard free *67 identity blocking method.    (Google the method if your not familar.)    Your call will be intercepted by Privacy Manager which will require a name to put the call through, where it will show as 847-742-0479.    Consider using a telephone which allows you to specify numbers to block.    Blocking 847-742-0479 will then block all unidentified calls.

This same number called me today, I thought I recognized it so I called it back, but of course, the number receives no incoming calls. I googled it and LOOKY WHAT WE HAVE HERE. I noticed we all seem to have AT&T as a provider, and I must say, me thinks this odd.... MYSTERY NUMBER!!!!!! NOW I HAVE A SOME QUESTIONS THAT NEED ANSWERING!!!!!!!! GO AHEAD AND CALL ME, IM PICKING IT UP THIS TIME. SCARING SOME 78 YEAR OLD WOMAN WITH THREATS, IM NOT 78 YET, MOTHERS! "F.B.I." PUH!!! IM THE FBI, TOO. LETS GET IT DONE.

Got the number on my phone today (Christmas day!!).  And Jim N I do pay my bills and am not changing my number I've had for over 20 years because of this.  What I am doing?  I am a neighborhood block captain and I'm going to turn it in to our city police department.  Let's if they can help if anything.  I do like the notice of BadSpooky - I have AT & T as well.  So maybe it's time to change my phone provider.  If AT & T can't fix it, changing providers just might.

Pay your Bills, or change your phone number.  For those of you who have a unlisted phone number, the collection agencys get your phone number from your hospital records, or doctors office records. NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR PHONE NUMBER, IF YOU HAVE TO GIVE THEM A PHONE NUMBER GIVE THEM A PREPAID CELL PHONE NUMBER, THAT CAN BE CHANGED!
PLEASE DONOT GIVE THE HOSPITAL A FRIENDS, OR A FAMILY PHONE NUMBER UNLESS YOU WANT THEM TO BE CALLED 10 TIMES A DAY.  Good Luck,& God Bless.

I get this call and they ask for me and never say who they are, they just hang up I am non- published so how are they getting my number? I want to be put on the Do Not Call List for this number when you call back it is disocnnected and can't receive calls. Who is this?

Same thing happening here...had to sign up with privacy manager for them to stop!  They still come thru but at least I have the phone number now for who is calling...

They called my 78 year old mother and told her they were the FBI looking for my brother and threatend that they could conduct a search of our home at any time' Isn't it illegal to impersonate a federal officer?

I also get this call and it pops up privacy manager. Within minutes this same number dials my cell phone. When redialing, the auto message states the number only accepts outgoing calls only.

Here's the deal: This is an identity theft scam. As best as I can tell, the calls originate from the Elgin, IL area (from reverse lookup info), but no business or names are associated with it. I'm betting if anyone finds a name associated with it, it will be fake. Anyway, the caller insisted that a "Claudia Howe" returned a phone call to his "agency" on May 28th from my phone number. He refused to discuss the nature of that call, too. Whatever. "Why should I give a rats a** about any of this?" I asked. He then suggested he had the right number and that we were not telling him the truth about her residing in our home. After a lengthy refusal to play this game on my part, he finally turned the corner in this conversation and "admitted" his agency's database has crashed recently and they have encountered errors like this before. He asked for my information to correct the record that was associated with my telephone number. Ah ... patience rewards. AT&T (or any phone company you might deal with, I'm sure) will not help with this one, folks. I called the nuisance hotline they have established and you'll never get a live body on the other end in this century. In fact, they generate some generic letter and basically tell you you're S.O.L. One more reason why I'm going to start using cell phones exclusively soon enough. The swine.

My phone service is with AT&T.  I found that by pressing *57, you can run a trace on the call and also by calling (if you are w/ ATT &/or SBC) there is an ATT annoyance call number to call and complain.  It is 800.769.4099.  I was only left a msg and am waiting for them to respond.  Does anyone out there know who and/or what this is?  When redialing, the auto message states the number only accepts outgoing calls only.  Please help!

I received a call from this number at 11:19 AM by Privacy Manager when I answered, my Privacy Manager asked me to press 1, which I did.  The party that identified themselves was a female voice, and it sounded like she said this is Dr. Cooks office calling.  I press 2 to disconnect the call. I do not know anyone in Elk Grove Village. I Googled the number.

This # as well as various others shown here calls constantly and most of them when I call back (they hang up if the ans. machine picks up) the # says it's for outbound calls only. today was the day my husband and I got our identity stolen! we are both extremely intelligent and quite frankly street smart! We are in our 50s and can generally spot a scam in a heartbeat. "Danny" from the STL Rams sold us a 3 game pkg. for 2 in the loge area usually $88 each for a mere 46 bucks ea and only another $15 handling! As I enter this I have been on hold to report my credit card as compromised!  Hopefully I can get this done before we get cleaned out! My son sent a message apx 8 minutes later that he had gotten the calls on his cell, which happens to be in my name.  He said he wasn't gonna bother 'cuz he didn't think we'd fall for any of their crap.' We feel dumb as hell and want to warn U all!
