"Gwen" wanted to update our basic info. As I was telling her we don't do that over the phone anymore I got hung up on. Really legit business practice's you have there at Manufacturers news!  Learn a new way of doing that. To many scammers out there....

Legit company - Manufacturer's News.  They publish directories of U.S. manufacturers.  https://www.manufacturersnews.com/  I agree though, it would be helpful if they'd identify themselves, and have a better "elevator speech" when they're calling to verify info.

While I do believe many listings are a scam. I looked this company up and I cannot find any harmful actions done on their part. and here is the site. I looked them up while I was on the phone with them http://www.manufacturersnews.com/about/ they seem harmless. I also found this which says there is a scam going around using their name http://www.southsidebusiness.com/southside/in ... urers-news-info
If I get a bill I will let you know.

Caller ID shows "Manufacturers N". The male ID'd himself but he spoke so fast and was very hard to understand; only got the he wanted to update the information for their listing. Asked if I could give him the info or transfer to someone who could. I put him on hold, but our phones work off our computers and somehow dropped the call. (Oh, well. I was going to leave him on hold until he hung up anyhow). It may be a free service, but I do not and will not give out company names and email addresses to unknown callers.

guy called from this number, asked for an associate that hadn't been with us since 2012, then asked for the Operations Manager. He did the classic scammer cant: where he tried to sound official and answer questions with generailites. When I asked what the nature of his call was, he said he was with the State Manufacturer's Director's office and needed to update information for our facility. When I asked him which state he was with, he back-peddled and said he was with the Manufacturers Directory. I asked if that was a governement office or a private business. He admitted it was a business. I reminded him he had told me he was with a state office. I offered to take his name & number, didn't write down anything and disconnected the call.

I don't even care if Manufacturers Directory IS a free service and/or legit.  These guys behave like scammers and  I do not want to be called constantly.   What's more, there are far too many true scams out there to feel comfortable verifying company information over the phone. Today, these guys called twice while I was in the middle of doing something.  I had to drop what I was doing to rush to the phone and it was these morons. I do not have the time to deal with this nonsense!

These calls are coming from "Manufacturers' News Inc., Corporate HQ:  1633 Central Street, Evanston, Illinois 60201-1569  To speak with an "attendant" call 847-864-9440 or use their dime and call 888-752-5200.  They appear to be using call lists based on SIC code.  We don't manufacture anything yet they keep calling!

We have received a few calls from this place.  Always wants to know basic information about our company, who owns it, main telephone number, address if we have a website etc.  Traced their number they are Manufacturers News Inc out of Evanston, IL appears to offer a free listing then offer you a more detail listing for a price.  They get the names of companies by scanning trade journals, newspapers, financial reports, websites, social media & RSS feeds, and hundreds of other sources to pinpoint every manufacturing establishment in the U.S.   These are their words that I got from their website.  Their callers are sometimes rude and you just have to hang up on them.

Sadly, it is a simple listing that is indeed for free. It is a B2B directory similar to yellow pages. There are dual sections to the directory: up front are the paid listings & the the latter pages is more an index section (free). Very simple, very free, no decals, no bold type, just a simple yellow pages type listing. You see our company used to have both piad & free listing. After we cancelled our paid listing the free one remains in the directory.

Still calling. The last time I answered I told the guy we were not interested. (The first call was from a woman.) He said that he is not trying to sell anything and got an attitude. I told him you people keep calling and he says he never called ever. I told him I known YOU didn't call but others have because it is a call center obviously. He was very pushy and wanted me to answer questions about locations and I just answered his questions even though I had no idea, just to get him off the phone. He then asked my name and I hung up. Very rude and annoying I will not answer ever again. I asked him what more do you want we have already answered all your questions.

Called and told these people last year to take us off of their call list and to put us on their internal do not call list which they assured me the would.  I gave them my first name, that was June last year.  I get a call from them on Jan 16th and now on the 20th.  I told Jesinia that we were on their do not call list and she verified, she still had my name in her notes.  This last time she called she said she didn't have any info that I had called, she just has a list of names to call.  Since we are a business do we have any recourse as they acknowledged that we had told them not to call?  We used to get bills disguised as solicitations from them all the time.  So it is not a free listing like they try to tell you over the phone.

A guy named Brian Webber from this number called our company everyday for a whole week, claiming he was from the Illinois Manufacturers Directory and demanded to talk to someone at our company who wasn't interested in talking to him. When we told him we're not interested and don't call us everyday, he became angry, verbally abusive and called our receptionist a b**** with a bad attitude.

Both him and the number he called from have been reported. Do Not be intimidated by this jerk and let him get away with this behavior.

A guy from that number, saying he is from the Illinois Manufacturers Directory keeps calling.  We keep telling him that he needs to talk to our marketing department because they're the only ones that have permission to verify our information for this "directory." He will then argue with us and refuses to leave a voicemail.  He will also keep calling back and asking for different people until he gets someone. His attitude and persistence definitely makes this seem like a scam.

Our company has been listed in their directory for years, and we have never received a bill.  I don't think they invoice you unless you choose to order an ad or bold-type listing.

It is a free B2B listing like the yellow pages. They're trying to make sure their records are correct, there is no list to be removed from - not a sales call. You would have approved the listing at some point. If you don't update the listing it will be udated elsewhere. My suggestion is just to update initially to avoid constant calls.

Sorry love. It is indeed a B2B directory with both free & paid listings. Just like the yellow pages. I  worked for a buddy of mine & he has plastic recycling business. He approved free listings & received some customers from it. Did he receive solicitations afterwards, of course! However, there was never a bill for anything - as far as I know they still have there listing. You can find their directories in any major library it is in all 50 states, they are called Manufacturers' News out of some suburb in Illinios. If you don't want to update then just don't answer the phone, duh! Every company has to register with their state, they'll find out elsewhere anyway.

Never sign up for a "free listing."  You could well be billed for it and placed into collections.  Happened to my former employer.  Just received a call asking what my business was (I have the phone number of a company that went out of business).  I simply said "it is none of yours" and hung up.

Calls our business every day, several times a day and wants to "update their files".  A couple of days ago I answered again and specifically asked to be removed from their call list.  They have called every day since then.  I will not answer again.

There is no list to be removed from it is a B2B Directory. It is like the yellow pages - paid or free listings. They're just verifying that you're still in business & the info is correct. At some point some a mgr/owner would have approved the listing. If you wish not to be bothered don't pick up the phone or just update the listing.

"Gwen Lester" calling for an individual who no longer works for this company. Wanted to "confirm" our details for some directory in Alabama. When told that we never requested to be listed, she talked over me. When told not to call back and remove our number, she rather abruptly hung up on me.
