Listed on my caller iD as "Palatine Place" . What's interesting is that when you call this number back , it tells you that its disconnected.

We get calls from this place (847 991 0000) several times a week.  I have only recently begun answering the calls, because I wanted to tell them to stop calling.  They say they're with an organization something like Illinois Law Enforcement Officers, and they're trying to get us to pledge money to help battered women and children.  I'd love to help them, but I simply do not pledge money to anybody who calls me on the phone.  I feel like that only encourages them to keep calling me and others.  So here's the history I have with them so far.

Earlier in the week of 2007-10-11, I received a call from Palatine Place and told caller that we can't help them this year. They kept lowering the amount I could pledge and I kept repeating that I can't help them.  They finally hung up.

2007-10-11 16:58: Received phone call. When I answered, I was hung up on.

2007-10-11 16:59: Called 8479910000, the number on the caller ID. The number is reported as disconnected.

2007-10-14 16:45: Received phone call. When I politely informed the caller that they had called three times and each time I have told them that we are unable to do anything for them this year and asked to be put on the do-not-call list, I was hung up on.

Mark my words.  The next time they call, I will launch a harassment lawsuit.  Anybody else interested in joining in and making it a class-action quit, just leave a note here.

2007-11-3:  Was receiving phone calls from this number last year, finally filed a complaint with AT & T and the calls stopped.  Now they have begun calling again.  They call several times a day, at strange hours, and always hang up.  If there is anything that can be done as a group, count me in...it is incredibly frustrating.

I used to live in Palatine but I never rec'd these calls when living there.  I have yet to answer one cause the number is so odd.  Now that I live in a different county in Illinois I get them all of the time.  And I get them at odd hours too just like others have stated.  I'm also on the do not call list, but I'm not sure if that applies to "charities".  Guess I'll have to check in to that.  We need to get this taken care of ASAP!

It's incredible no one can stop these calls. I tried to register the number at "donotcall" and it wouldn't accept a 0000 number. How did you register a complaint at AT&T? Thanks

This WAS my fax number for 10 years, then it got CLONED. I am sorry it was used by some criminal in this way but it absolutely was not myself or anyone in my office or connected with my practice. As a result, I have since had to change my fax number and again I am sorry for your and my own inconvenience. Dr. Robert Gerowitz

Got this call 12-23-07. Called and made a complaint with local police. Phone company said that they would investigate Wednesday 12-26-07. We shall see. Ready to join for legal action.

The number is still active. At least still receiving calls from it. When I answer, the just hang up. Will be filing a complaint. Would like to know if anyone else is still receiving calls from this number.

I just received the call a couple of minutes ago.
I used to get these calls a couple of years ago under another number. They were saying there were a charity for the retired police in Illinois. when I told them I wasn't interested, they told me that if I don't donate, I could find myself getting a couple of unexpected parking tickets. I called the police in my area. They said they were aware of the issue, and to not answer the phone when that number came through.
Guess they are trying again.....

I just got a call from this # when I was online & it came on my aol call alert from Robert Gerowitz from palatine Il. I sent back a reply ( I don't know you )

I answered the phone and they were wishpering they said " I know who you are and i know where you live" then the past 3 times have said they're MAke a wish foundation! we have reported the mto the police.

We get these phone calls all the time too.  When I pick up, sometimes they hang up.  If I ask if I can take a message, they don't leave one and say that they would try back later.  I figure if they can't leave a message, it's not too important for us to be concerned.  These people need to get a life and stop harrassing the rest of the world.  If it's for a good cause, they would at least tell you who they are.  I think we should just turn the tables on them and give them a taste of their own medicine and see if they like it.

He called and asked for my mother. Now I have no clue were he got her name from but he got it!

so my mom gave me this number wanting to know if i knew who it was so i decided to see if i could look it up on the internet and i found all you guys! we tried calling the number back and it says that it has been disconnected.  whoever it is keeps calling us all the time too, we have no idea!

Thank goodness I wasn't the only one getting these calls!!!!  Makes me nuts!  They called me on Satuday at 7:30 & have called up until 8pm at night!  Anyway we can make it stop>

Repeating calls just noted 7 in 3 hour period. Submitted a complaint with DONOTCALL.GOV This is a real pain just to avoid the call, Thank God or Al Gore for caller ID.

Just got the call and played along. LOL  Today they were Make a Wish Foundation. Once I told them that I would make a pledge, they said that they wouldn't call me until the end of the year next year. So they will send in paperwork, and I don't have to do anything with it. Maybe that will keep them from calling. They won't stop any other way.

I will not be making a payment to them, as I don't believe that they are legit. If I want to donate to Make a Wish, I will go thru their website.

The person on the phone identified themselves as being from Make-A-Wish Foundation.  I told them I donate anonymously and never over the phone.  They continued on until I had to cut them off and hang up.  I contacted MAW and discovered they do not solicit over the phone.  I received two more calls from the same number after telling them no and hanging up on them.  Smells like scammers.

I have recieved calls from this number for over a year now. They have identified themselves from Fraternal Order of Police, Firemens Fund, National Police Association and I can't even remember what else.  My husband went as far as telling them that I died, and they still called back the next day and asked for me! I am a Police Officer and I informed them that I knew this was a scam, that I was going to report them and file a harassment complaint...the guy got an attitude with me and said "ooooh we will be calling back then!"  Guess what..the jerks called back the next day and everyday since.  I called the phone company, they said they can't block it and that I have to hit #57 after I hang up from them and then file a report with our local police department. Then ATT will attempt to contact them, but the number does come up as disconnected, so I don't know how that will happen.  My next step is to get one of those REALLY loud air horns and blast that into the phone as soon as he so chearfully asks for me like we're best friends!

Just got the same call and I reported it to the DoNotCall as I get these once a night for the past couple of weeks...

I just filed a complaint on www.donotcall.gov  We'll see where that goes.  I'll update if I find anything out.

I too have been receiving these calls for about a month now. Just a few minutes ago I got another one and this time there was someone on the other end! He said that he was from the Illinois Jaycees. I started trying to ask him why I have been getting these calls multiple times per day for a month. He said that was impossible. I then told him not to tell me that I was wrong and could prove it with call logs, he hung up. Of course I cannot call the number back as it says the number is disconnected. I called the Illinois Jaycees office in Springfield and explained what happened. The woman told me that she would check into it. They use a company to handle solicitation calls and would check with them. I also sold her that I am on the National Do No Call List.

I get a call from this number everyday between 5 and 9 pm.  AT&T won't do anything about it, and your do not call registration won't prevent it because it is a "charity" organization.  I believe the number belongs to an autodialer that checks for people to answer their phones and then sends them to an operator.  If you take too long to answer, it moves on to the next number, hence the hang up.  I live relatively close to palatine, Illinios, and I plan to call the Palatine police department and the Illinois State Police.  At this point, it goes way beyond harassment.

Immediately disconnected when I pick up the receiver.  I researched on the internet and landed here.  I reported the number with www.donotcall.gov and would urge all of you to do the same.  Hit the file a complaint button on the left hand side of their home page.

Call from this number every day. Told them I'm on do-not-call list and hung up. Still get the calls. I would love to see them get "busted." Real nuisance.
