It's really a charity, I don't think so, BREAST CANCER SOCIETY charity SCAM, the most ridiculous way to ask for money by the phone, When people is ready to give, They will be ready to give, If they not get annoyed by these crooks, Don't believe it's not charity is a Fraud, real charities operated with association with the business of their own choice, for example: Kohl's Susan G. Komen for Breast Cancer, Macy's with the Make a Wish Foundation, Target Scholarship for kids, etc. So it's better when you find these charities really go for the cause, not in this case suspicious, want to make a sad impression for pity, Oh here is my $10 pledge, Sorry felt deceived about this phony campaign.

Called.  Was a real Person who asked for me.   To waste her time I answered in a foreign language.   I would reply to her English answers or questions appropriately, but in the other language.  She eventually gave up.

This number called our landline ... "Out of area" on our caller ID ... I answered and a woman introduced herself as "Amanda" ... Now Amanda basically pressured me into saying that I would donate for the Breast Cancer Society.  I asked, "Which Breast Cancer Society?" ... "You know, the one that helps women with breast cancer with donations for treatments, housing, just living in general."   When I told her that I would send a small donation, she put me through to the "Verification Department."  The lady in the Verification Department became very rude when I said that I would NOT give them my credit card information over the phone to someone who called me and I had no clue of who they were.  I finally hung up on her .... Now, the same number has called back 4 times in the last 10 minutes, probably still trying to get donation that they are wasting their time and mine for trying to get!!

Got a call from these folks at 6:50pm on a Friday evening. Heck of a way to ask for donations. Times are tough, I get it, but calling me close to 7pm at night isn't going to help on my end.

(848) 248-4676 Live call received 22 March 2014   Cancer Donation Solicitation
Caller ID: "Breast Cancer S"

Also calls from: (609) 318-6033 | (732) 907-2112 | (856) 295-5661 | (856) 295-9561

To my surprise, this was a live person after the predictive dialer took two minutes to get an agent on their end. It was a solicitation for donations for breast cancer. They've called before and actually told me that only 15% of my donation goes to fight cancer (they keep the other 85% as "administrative cost") and I give them a hard time but without actually refusing their request, so they remain on the phone with me, even though it's a waste of their time. Obviously they don't keep call logs or they would have removed me from their call list long ago.

So now I make it harder on them by pledging, giving them a false ID and credit card information and address, and making them waste postage to mail me a receipt, then wasting more time when they get their envelope returned from the US Postal service and they have to flag it on their computer.

I use Fake Name Generator   ( www.FakeNameGenerator.com ) to create 100% false credit card numbers, individual's name and address to give telemarketers soliciting contributions from me. The fake credit card actually passes the "Luhn Formula" first level test and appears to be in the valid credit card number format.

Hey, guys, this caller is actually a computer.  You are not talking to any real person.  There is no Amanda.  Don't hang up.  Hang in there and say nonsense things.  The computer is really, really good at voice recognition and responding.  However, if you stay with it long enough you'll discover it's really, really a robo-call.  She even has an answer when you ask her "if she's a computer".  Just try it.

"Amanda" has done this to me several times.  She actually calls for my partner, who usually works during the time "Amanda" calls.  I tell "Amanda" that my partner isn't home, but that I could help her or take a message, and "Amanda" just hangs up on me.  Today, I recognized her voice and told her I was actually my partner.  So, she gave me the spiel, and I told her at least 3 times I wasn't interested, but she kept talking.  I hung up on her.

I received yet another call from "Amanda" just a few minutes ago.  You may be signed up on the "do not call" list, but there are still certain organizations that can call you -- the main organizations are charities.  It appears that whatever group "Amanda" is working with (she told me ACC?), they are trying to skirt the system by saying they are a charity, thereby they CAN call you.  You can tell them to stop calling, but I don't know if that'll work in their case.  I would still go ahead and file a complaint on the "do not call registry" though.  I'm certainly going to do it.

Called yesterday.  Scam artists  (see Charity Navigator, CNN, Tampa Bay Times, subject: Breast Cancer Society).
Alas, my call block list is full. Their telemarketing arm has been asked to stop making calls.  This time I told them they were scammers and hung up.  I was so hoping that the previous call would be the last (I really let 'em have a piece of my mind on that one), but no joy.

Live call from (848) 248-4676
Caller ID: Breast Cancer S

To my surprise, this was a live person after a brief the predictive dialer took to get an agent on their end. It was a solicitation for donations for breast cancer. They asked for my wife by first name but when I said she wasn't at home now, they said they can talk to either of us.

Here is roughly how the call went:

caller: "...we're professional fundraisers. If we send you an envelope, can we count on you for something small?"
I was tempted to say something "smart" but I resisted, lol.
me: "What percent of my contribution actually goes to help fight breast cancer?"

caller: "I'm glad you asked that. Only 15% goes to fight cancer, 85% goes to administrative costs..."
me: "Only 15%? That's not very much, is it?"

caller: "Can we count on your support?"
me: "So you're saying that if I donate $100, only $15.00 goes to help cancer victims?"

caller: "Yes, yes, can we count on your support?"
me: "It seems to me that if I were to call the charity directly and donate directly to them, they would get 100% of my contribution..."

caller: "Yes, I suppose that's true...Well, thank you for talking to us today, have a nice day, good bye!"

This woman certainly was very professional and well trained. Every time I was negative, she steered the conversation back to "can we count on your support?"  She really did try to get me to donate but finally gave up.

It's time to block (848) 248-4676 because they last called in May and we went through the same conversation about 15% going to the charity and now with two refusals under my belt, I certainly don't want to have them call me again in the near future.

Wasting their time is what they most dread. If they're on with you and fail to secure a donation, they potentially miss out because they're not calling some other sucker.

Called and I talked to Amanda on 8/15/2013.  Promised a $15 donation.  I received the donation envelope in the mail with "you're a sweetheart..Amanda." continue to receive calls no less than 2 times a day.  Answering machine picks up.  Woman asks for "Glenn" and hangs up.  If my wife answers, she asks for Glenn, when my wife says I'm not available, she hangs up.  I will not spend the money to block.  Do something before I do.

Recieved a call tonight from this number stating she was from "The Breast Cancer Society".  The woman on the other end wanted me to make a donation.  Told her I have breast cancer (which I do) and that I had been laid off from my job due to the economy (which is true).  She hung up on me.  lol.  I guess she was afraid I might actually ask for help from her organization.

They have called 6 times in the last week.

Yesterday  I answered in a foreign language that they probably would not know.    The ?person? on the other end of the line did not seem to respond properly to someone talking in a foreign language that she did not understand.  It seemed more like an automated answerer.  She said that she wanted to thank my wife for her pledge.   She did not make a pledge.

I just received a call that closely followed the beginning of the conversation reported by John of Lower Merion.  I kept giving my standard reply that I promise nothing to phone solicitation and acknowledge only what I receive in the mail.  (Of course, that acknowledgment is usually a deposit into the circular file, but I don't say that.)  The female representative was persistent in wanting me to pledge at least $20, and I was equally persistent that I'd pledge nothing without something in the mail to examine.  We went through abot three rounds of this before she implicitly acknowledged that I wasn't going to budge.

Answered and waited a good 30 seconds for "Amanda" a paid fundraiser to get onto the call.  She asked for me by name.  She went into her spiel about breast cancer and then...the perfect setup

"If we send you an envelope, can we count on you to put a little something in it?"

Me: Sure, send the envelope and I'll put my d*ck in it.  It's very small.

"Do Not Call" only applies to calls that are sales solicitations.  In some cases it is unfortunate that political and charitable organizations are exempted from this legislation.  Political & charitable groups ARE still responsible to abide by certain guidelines - no calls before 8am or after 9 pm, they must provide the group's name and the name of the individual caller, and most improtantly, there should not be robocalls that do not disconnect (you hang up, but when you pick the phone up again, the recording is still playing!)
