849-963-3221
Dominican Republic, Dominican Republic
1-849-963-4873 2013-03-19 17:26:12 Unknown
As reported earlier this call 1-849-963-4873 is from the Dominican Republic. Mine came with the 1 in front it.
Telephone numbers in the Dominican Republic use area code 809 with 829 and 849 as overlay codes.
Telecommunications in the Dominican Republic use the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) country code, 1, followed by the area code in the same form as an internal area code in other NANP countries, such as the US and Canada.
They will claim to be from the Social Security administration and a bunch of other outlets. It is a scam folks. They are looking for a victim and identity info.

If you are an AARP member or on their mailing list which they get from a variety of sources, including HHS Medicare lists or on Medicare they assume a medical condition of diabetes, because that is over 70% of the medicare costs.
I just turned 65 and for the prior year and subsequently, I have been inundated with medicare plans and diabetes drug and devices calls. The volume has increased exponiently even though I have rejected Medicare. It does not stop. If you ever bought anything online, or used a birthday even close to making you 65 on a website, and/or used your CC online, the lists get sold and used by these scammers. Sometimes they just dial numbers in certain demographics and wait for someone to answer, to validate the number.

Hmm, so no one has posted about this number since July 17th. Well...they're baaaack.

7.6.12 received call from this number 4:25p EST. Did not pick up. No message. Did not show up on caller ID but did on phone ID. Good advice in above posts. I simply block numbers like this. Works. Or either they call from another number. Then I block that one. They get message sooner or later.
jen 2012-07-06 20:21:55 Unknown
Received same call today and did the same as you. Somehow the have acces to name and address file or do ROBO calling. All scam operative!!!!

Got a call from this number today, 07/06/2012 at 2:45 PM, eastern time zone. I did not answer. Caller ID showed "name unavailable", I did not answer. They did not leave a message.
If they call again I'll block that number. I'm only allowed 12 so I'm careful not to use it on a number that may only call once.

Got a call from this number today, 07/06/2012 at 8:10 AM CDT. I did not answer. Caller ID showed "name unavailable" and because I do not know "anyone" by that name, nor did I recognize the number, did not answer. They did not leave a message.
Please get this idiot for disturbing "my" peace and using "my" telephone.
I just re-registered all of our phone numbers on the DO NOT CALL list even though it has not been that long since I did that, again.
Sylva 2012-07-06 12:57:15 Unknown
I also received a call from this # on 7/5 at 11:54 AM. Caller ID showed "DOM REPUBL CALL" with the #. I let it go to voice mail - no message. I worked at a college that has a Study Service Term in the Dominican Republic. I figured if it was from anyone that I actually knew, they would leave a message.
Irvin Maymon 2012-07-06 02:24:08 Unknown
Was not at home and they did not leave a message. First time I have received a call from this number. The only info on my answering machine was the phone number and (NAME NOT FOUND)

Don't know anybody in the Dominican Republic - how did they get my number???
Rich 2012-07-05 17:56:59 Unknown
I got a call from them at 12:15 p.m. The caller I.D. said 'Name not found'.
I have a second answer machine with a recording of a fax ring I got off the internet. When 'that' machine picks up, it fools the telemarketter into thinking it's a fax line.
BINGO! No more calls from that number...

Robo telemarketing from outside the US border. Pushing phony health care plans for elderly with diabetes or back pain. You can push zero and get someone to yell at, but they really don't care since they are outside the U.S.. Our government in (in)action, yet another failure of the do not call program.
Sunny 2012-07-05 14:44:13 Unknown
I think almost everyone has caller ID now days. I just look and never pick up the phone if it's a number I don't recognize. This call came in this morning with no message. I don't waste my time answering nor reporting them. Nothing is ever done about it anyway. Just don't answer the calls. Most people I know say that's the way to handle it.
margie 2012-07-04 05:45:59 Unknown
Dion't know anyone in DR. Never answer w/o looking at caller i.d. as I get many nuisance calls
Steve 2012-07-04 02:37:06 Unknown
Do not bother filing a complaint with the Do Not Call folks. You would have better luck beating your head against a brick wall. At least you would get a headache and you could possibly get rid of it with a couple of aspirins.
Try filing a complaint with the FCC. Just look up the FCC on Google

Called today (7/3/12), caller ID said D Republic Call so I didn't bother to answer. Message system answered but there was no message, so I don't have any specifics except since it fits the scammer profile, it's probably a scam. Wish there was an open season on these scumbags.
Barb 2012-07-03 18:33:05 Unknown
They called July 3, 2012. "Out of area/unavailable." No message. When you call them, there is a message that "this number is not in service. Another phone number research site says the number is the Dominican Republic area code but who knows thanks to Caller ID spoofing! I will file a complaint with the Do Not Call site.

PEOPLE. PLEASE READ THE COMMENTS BEFORE POSTING!!!
YOU MAY THINK THAT SOMEONE IS CALLING YOUR SPECIFIC PHONE NUMBER.
THEY DID NOT. THEY DID NOT CALL YOUR NUMBER SPECIFICALLY.
YOU WERE RANDOMALLY "ROBO" CALLED WITH A SPOOFED PHONE NUMBER ON A CALLER ID FOR A SCAM COMPANY.
Important message to all those that have received a call from this number:
There are several companies engaged in scam business using auto dialers. They are ALL scam outfits. They spoof phone numbers of victims all the time. Sometimes, they spoof non-working phone numbers. The phone number you searched for is just another victim of these scumbags. I've done a lot of research of these companies. Actually, there are several affiliated companies, that try to scam innocent victims. They are either owned by the same people, or they sell their business model to other crooks.
One scam is about auto warranties. The other is about credit card debt relief. They even have scams about dish television, home alarms, carpet cleaning, political surveys, free cruises, and more. Their MO is the same. The use an auto dialer, and call thousands of random numbers. They have no regard to the do not call lists. Your demands or complaints to them are worthless. They will continue to call you.
They will not remove you from their call lists. Why? BECAUSE THEY DO NOT MAINTAIN ANY. THEY ARE CROOKS. THEY HAVE NO REGARD TO THE MANY LAWS THEY BREAK.
BEING ROBO CALLED BY A COMPUTER IS A FEDERAL CRIME. NEED WE SAY MORE?
If they call about a car warranty, the message says something as "This is the second notice on your extended vehicle warranty. Press one now to speak to a representative..." The message about credit debt mentions "This is Account Services. We are calling to lower your credit card debt. Press one now to speak to a representative..." or "The is an important call from your cardmember services. This is your Final Notice. We have been trying to contact you?." The message about carpet cleaning begins "This is Diane, would like your carpet professionally steamed cleaned?"
These crooks can be beaten! Here is an example of what happens if ALL OF US contribute to taking them down by following the steps below:
http://www.justice.gov/usao/gan/press/2012/02-09-12.html
So, now you want to get these crooks. WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT THIS? If you want to stop these crooks do the following:
:
1) You need to speak to one of their customer service representatives. Pretend to be interested in either lowering your credit card interest rate or a car warranty, having your carpets cleaned, etc. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY REAL INFORMATION. Do not ask how they "got" you number. (Remember, your number was randomly dialed by a computer)
Tell them you have $20,000 in credit card debt. Give them a fake credit card number, a fake name, and a fake SS#. If the call is about the auto warranty scam, tell them you own a Ferrari, or a 1937 Dodge (however, if you really own one of those two, tell them you own a Buick). Give a made up VIN number. Or tell them you have 15 rooms of beautiful plush wall to wall carpet. If they ask for your name and phone number, give them the info for the person you hate the most.
Your goal is simple. You want to engage them in friendly conversation to keep them on the phone for as long as possible. Be nice and friendly. Your goal is twofold. You want to learn as much as possible about them. They will refuse to give you a website, phone number, or maybe even a real company name. They will attempt to give you a generic name such as "Account Services," "Financial Services," or "Dealer Services." This is done for a reason, to throw you and the government off their tracks. Do not accept this. Keep pressing for info during casual conversation. You will need this (see below). Often when pressed for questions, they will hang up on you. Remember, they are instructed to do this. That is why you must not be confrontational. Be friendly and act as if you are genuinely interested.
Get the name of the company, and if you can, the city where they are located. Most of these scam companies are either in Florida, or in the Atlanta, Georgia area.
EVEN BETTER IS IF YOU CAN RECORD THE CALL.
Also, the time you take from them means them have less time to steal from someone who is unknowledgeable about their scams. They get paid to rip people off. Take away their time, and they make no money! I have kept them on the phone for up to 20 minutes! I realize that many of you do not have the time. But do you appreciate being taken advantage of?
Ever hear of Scambaiting? That is what you are doing!!! There are many entertaining web sites on this topic. For example, see:
http://www.419eater.com.
2) Get the details of these scumbags and post it on this and every other website you can find. Use only the information you get from talking from their representatives and information you get from public sources. DO NOT POST THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF THE PERSON THAT OWNS THE PHONE NUMBER ON YOUR CALLER ID. Their numbers were spoofed and they are victims.
3) YOU MUST REPORT THEM TO THE AUTHORITIES:
FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION!
Here is the link to file a complaint: http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm
FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION:
https://donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx
You can also file a report with the Attorney General of your state. See the links below to see how effective this can be.
If everyone that received a call from these low-life scumbags does the same, then the combined action of thousands of us can stop these crooks from scamming innocent people out of money.

Let me tell you how I helped defeat a former scam company. Versadebt, that changed its name to VP Marketing, was scamming victims for years. I found the name of their company through conversation with one of their stupid representatives. And not only did I report them to the FCC and FTC each time, I also posted their contact information on the internet to make it easier for everyone to report.
Here is a story from Fox 5 Atlanta - WAGA that tells how WE took down VP Marketing, just one scam operation. Over 100,000 complaints were received by the FTC:
http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/dpp/news/i-team:-vp-marketing-sued-021710
If you get the name of the company, here is how you can find their information if located in Georgia, with the search engine of the Georgia Department of State:
http://corp.sos.state.ga.us/corp/soskb/CSearch.asp
For example looking up VP Marketing, the former scam outfit, we see that it is owned by Jason Eyer, the dirt bag shown in the Fox 5 video. Here is how you can contact this person, courtesy of public records filed with the Georgia Department of State:
Jason Eyer
1603 Mosaic Way
Smyrna, GA 30080
407-902-1950
407-902-9377
And here is the most satisfying evidence of how we can defeat and destroy these scumbag scammers:
JURY CONVICTS WOMAN IN $25 MILLION NATIONWIDE TELEMARKETING FRAUD SCHEME
http://www.justice.gov/usao/gan/press/2011/11-07-11.html
Remember:
1) Be friendly and pretend to be interested
2) Try to get the name of the company
3) Research the name of the company using public records
4) Post the name of the company everywhere on the internet
4) Report them to the FCC, the FTC, and the state Attorney General's office

"Susanna" claimed the company was American Seniors' Assistance and was in Virginia. She hung up when I asked where in Virginia.

Called me again this morning. I picked up, but no one on the other end. I know it was a robo dial, and will not activate until you say hello again, so I hung up. This is soooooooooooooo annoying ! We have to stop these annoying calls.

Receive a call this morning, did not answer because I did not recognize the number. They did not leave a message. I receive a least a call a day from unknown numbers.

Answered the phone and a recorded voice said this was an important message for seniors with diabetes, blah, blah, blah. i immediately hung up and called the number on the caller ID (849-963-3221). A guy answered the phone with, "Hello" - no company name. I said I'd just received a call from this number and told him I was on the "do not call" list and asked how he got my number. He said he would remove my name. He had my correct name and said he purchased a list with my name and number. He wouldn't tell me from where. This is very disturbing. These people know your name, phone number, and at least some of your medical conditions.
