What ever made you think scammers, frauds, extortionist and thieves would honor that list?  And those real ones that do, get fined and socked pretty good, you need to file reports..  But don't think its going to stop those scams, extortionist and thieves! Charity's and Political calls are also exempt..   but most will remove you if asked!
You can also sign up for a political no call:
http://stoppoliticalcalls.org/index.php

But stopping the phoney phone calls from the scammers and thieves is on you! There's lots of stuff you can do if you bother to read up here..

Does ANYONE ELSE know that the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY is NOT a government organization??  And I'm pretty sure that those 535 persons that live off our taxes in Washington do NOT RECEIVE these calls.  I'm almost beginning to think that the list was finally SOLD to companies for the express purpose of RE-SALE.  I can't believe that calls from all over the country and WORLD all started coming in around the same time.  I don't think they are "computer" generated calls.  I think we were sold ANOTHER BILL OF GOODS!

I received a call from 849-963-4844, caller ID showed it as being from "Dom Republic Call".    Reporting to DNC list which is another government joke!!!   I've tried everything, so I just turned my fax machine on and set it up to pick up on the 4th ring so they will hear squealing in their ears... Makes me feel better anyway... WE pay our phone bills so if we don't want to receive all these scam, crap calls, then the phone companies should be liable...

That's funny. But only partially true. This guy here is obviously an illiterate scumbag, but if this was the real Eric Holder...we still wouldn't be able to understand a single word he was saying.

Calling DNC or FTC is a waste of time . I have been doing this for 2 years .I bought A Panasonic wired phone with 3 extension portable phones .I don't accept  anonymous calls and if they take the time to press *82 and call me again ,I block them ,all they hear after 1 ring is a busy signal.WE have a bad economy so why don't we get rid of the FCC they are useless ,don't do their jobs and have better health care & pensions than most of us .For this they do nothing ,once In a while they will acknowledge a complaint .WE have been conned into signing up on a DNC list and it has become worse after signing than before .I have a solution if we can get lots of people involved.Send an email to you Congressman & Senator ,tell them 2014 is an election year that they have 18 months to address this problem and to get after the FCC .If things don't improve and they would prefer to play games in Washington than do their jobs, you will not vote for them and you will support the other candidate .Tell them we sent them to Washington to do things ,start earning your money or go .It might work ,maybe put it on Facebook ,we have the power to contact millions of voters ,we should use our power .I feel so stupid registering my phone numbers with our government and they laugh at the FCC .Now they are calling my cell phone number and I can't block them .I cannot understand someone using a disconnected number and the phone company can't do anything about it .I ask why they are getting to use Verizons service not paying for that and using a none existing number ,it's got to stop!!

After 2 years of these calls ,I have the solution and the FTC aint it .I bought a Panasonic phone, answering wired phone with 3 portable extensions, under $100 .They have a blocking feature up to 30 calls .I have my service set up anonymous or blocked numbers will only ring once and they will be informed they need to hit *82 to reveal their number .Once they reveal their number ,I instantly call back the number to check if it was legit ,most of the time the number is a disconnected number ,however if it's someone selling me something ,I program their number to be blocked .They get a constant busy number if they call again .That's how I got rid of Rachel and the Jamaican boys with their Mercedes gift .Unfortunately Verizon wants I believe $10 to block 4 numbers a month ,a ripoff .I have blocked 28 out of 30 numbers ,however there are new ones daily ,but 28 are gone .Now I wish I could block my cell phone .

849-963-4844 - name not found on CID

I've had similar experiences.  If you press "2" - and actually get to talk to someone and politely ask to be removed from their calling lists because you are on the do not call list - they hang up on you.  I have also asked for a supervisor, and I then hear a dial tone.  They hang up on you and if you try to call them back, the phone number does not accept incoming calls.

I do not know what good it does for us to register our phones and these people can keep on calling us.  We have asked for the credit card services to stop calling, and then they just turn our number over to another scammer from another state with another phone number.  I just don't answer or I pick up and hang up on them.

It does no good to talk with them - they could care less!!!!!

I just bought the Panasonic (Model # KX-TG254SK) cordless phone and it allows you to block all calls from a certain area code or the complete phone number. In this case all calls will be blocked from Area Code 849 and will no longer bother me. I got the phone from Costco. At the time I thought $80 was a bit much but now I think it was worth it. I don't know anyone in that country so no loss there.

They called me twice today so far.  I always with "City Morgue.  Murphy speaking."  But each time a recorded message says:  "This is an important message from Medicare ...."  and then I hang up.  So, why would Medicare be calling me from the Dominican Republic which is where area code 849 originates?  Ever since I officially went onto to Social Security, these calls have multiplied like mushrooms overnight.  Could Social Security or Medicare be giving out my telephone number to these scammers?

I was called twice, re. Medicare (do you have Diabetis or back pain?). It said press 2 if you do not want to be called again. When I pressed 2 I was trasferred to someone who asked me whether I pressed 1 or 2. When I said 2, and that I was on a do-not-call list, the person hung up!

This number keeps calling multiple times a day. If we try to call it back, we get an error msg that the number has been disconnected or is no longer in service. We've asked for them to stop calling before hanging up the line since no one actually answers us when we answer, but they continue.

I'm not sure whether they actually called my home phone number or my cell phone number because during the day, I forward all my home calls to my cell number. They didn't leave a message on voice mail and no specific name was shown on caller I.D., so I blocked them from calling again. Whatever they're selling, I'm not buying.

I agree. Also, when I HAVE answered the phone, I've politely asked them for more information because I was recording and tracing the call as we spoke and needed JUST A FEW MORE MINTUES to be able to trace them...if' they'd be so kind as to remain on the phone. You can imagine how quickly they hung up and the bulk of those calls have now disappeared. :-)

I really think the only way that this will subside is when our Senators and Congress people begin getting the calls to their personal cell phones and/or home and THEY find it an intrusion that must stop.

Your long comment should be copied and pasted to all your government reps...it's not so much that only laws need to be enacted, but there must be staff to follow up. That's the problem here.

I have a Panasonic KX-TG7641 from Costco that allows for CALL BLOCKING. So, I was easily successfully blocking all these calls. Pretty cool, how it just stops the phone from ringing after one ring when I've blocked it from the last time they call. Sadly, however, there are more calls than Panasonic allows to be blocked.

Good luck.

The purpose of the Do Not Call list is to allow you to opt out of receiving telemarketing cold calls from legitimate businesses. It performs that role very well. I have gotten virtually no telemarketing calls from LEGITIMATE businesses since registering on the list. Legitimate businesses honor the DNC list, but the DNC list cannot block criminals, scam artists, and fly-by-night operators from calling your number. Reporting violations to the DNC website may eventually help the government to shut down the most egregious violators, but given the sheer volume of phone spam, there is no way they can act upon every individual complaint. The vermin just switch to new numbers and use various other ways of evading detection. If you want to stop these calls on your phone, your only option for now is to block them at your end using devices like the Telebouncer and the Digitone call blocker. I have put both of these devices on my land line and have almost completely blocked out the annoying calls from ringing my phone.

it is a real shame they can get away with this. This calls are a nuisance. I have trouble getting to the phone and they call and hang up. If I don't have my glasses on I cannot see it says UNKNOWN. From now on I am making sure I know who is calling before I pick up. IF it is a legal call, it will have a name in caller id and there will be a person online when you answer. It is so disrespectful to call someone, then hang up...UGH

Stay safe everyone. DO NOT GIVE Your private info.!!!!!!

They are robo calls. They input a block of numbers into a computer and then the computer calls one number at a time. No not everybody is a senior. And you are right, these calls are usually a scam.
