Someone called me at 3 am in the morning and I couldn?t understand a word he was saying. I think he was Chinese or from the Philippines or something. I told him it was too early and that I wanted to sleep but he just kept on blabbering, I ended up hanging up on him. I kinda felt bad to be honest but when he called back blabbering again I had to hang up on him again!

i think It is owned by a company that does "Follow Up" calls to people who made it onto the list of potential car buyers. I filled out the online form

Some guy called my mother and tried to sell her an iPhone made in China for half the price of an original one. My mother who is 70 years old and lives alone thought it would be a nice birthday gift for me and almost went through with it, hadn?t the caregiver noticed she was looking for her cards and stopped her. They really should not be trying to abuse seniors like this!!

Got a call Saturday and our caller ID showed "name unavailable" and no message left.  I searched this phone number and supposedly it does not exist. When I tried calling it, it said to check the number I am calling as it is not a working number?! My friend said I should not have called it, I could have been charged a lot of money for that phone call if it HAD gone thru!!  BEWARE of 849 numbers!

Received a call from 849-963-4852.  My caller ID said "Dom Republ".  They didn't leave a message.  I am on the "Do Not Call" list and I receive unwanted calls like this one every day.

I, too, received a call from this number today.  I have entered the number into my call block and that will take care of it.  One ring and my phone blocks the call.

I think some posters do not understand how the DNC registry works.  Here is how:  You register your number. Businesses who do telemarketing are supposed to check the DNC registry before placing phone numbers on their calling list.  They then know they are not supposed to call any number that is on the DNC registry.  If you get the name of the company/person/phone number who is calling you then you can report that number and a fine can be assessed for violating the terms of the DNC registry.  The DNC registry does not monitor calls on an arbitrary basis.  But, once you are on the registry and you file a complaint, action should be taken.  Just having your name on the registry does not mean that the DNC registry will automatically stop calls coming to you.   I have been on this registry since it began and, in the beginning, it worked very well and I did not receive calls from any unwanted parties.  It was wonderful.  Now it seems that a way has been found to bypass the DNC registry by outsourcing to individuals off-shore.  The scammers will always find a way to get to you by phone.  The only thing to do is what has already been explained:  Get the call blocking service provided by your phone company.  Mine is included with my phone service.  I do not have to pay extra to get call blocking.  Call your phone company and ask.

Thank goodness for Caller ID because when I saw what number was displayed I knew I didn't want to answer.  I muted the ringer but the caller terminated the call without leaving a message.  Caller ID displayed 'Name Unavailable'.  Like a lot of you I'm on the famous 'Do Not Call' list which is totally useless.

We are on the national and state do not call list, so why are we getting these annoying calls?  Checked 849 area code - is the dominican republic.  Are they excempt?  Do not call list is a bunch of balony.

Received a call from 849-963-4852 this morning, which I did not answer, and will be adding to blocked list. The government is offering $50,000 to anyone who can help them shut down these scammers. First of all, they already have the technology to shut them down. They should go after the people who have made available the software that enables "spoofing" numbers. There is no legal reason for anyone to "spoof" a number. Second, the technology exists to block numbers from unwanted callers. This should be made available to anyone with a phone, at no charge, and for an infinite number of unwanted callers. If everyone had the ability to block these idiot's calls, they would eventually cease and desist. It is important to know that answering any of these calls is something you should not do. Do not answer. If you do make the mistake of answering, hang up immediately, without pressing any number whatsoever.
It is correct that the DNC cannot regulate any calls coming from outside the U.S., which is what is happening with all of these calls. Just do not answer. Get a phone that has a "blocked call" feature.

The DNc is just a list.  It doesn't block calls.

Yes.  received this call today.  Something sleazy feeling but not clear exactly what.    Definitely offshore though one of the people I talked to said they were calling from Virgina.  Accent is not Spanish.  Something Slavic I think....Russian comes to mind.

Report Medicare/Medicaid fraud here.  Even potential fraud.  What they are doing might not be strictly illegal but one can't help but feel.....there is something about this that isn't 'right'.

These people call and then hang up. This is one of several callers like this I get every day. Some days there are 12 such calls.

I got a call from this number this morning, when I answered, im 33 they hung up. They called again, women I could not understand, didnt sound Indian, maybe Nigerian/ or a african accent, they asked if they could speak to mother, i told them she was dead, they asked for my father, said he dead to, they hung up.

Called around noon - it rang twice & quit quickly. Probably a scam.

rang four times, answered, just silence, then it hung up.

Two calls today; wife wadded through the robomessage until it instructed her to hit "2" to be removed from the call list; as soon as she did she was connected to a representative who launched into his spiel.  Otherwise everything is same as others have reported - caller ID shows name unavailable, etc.  We, too, are on No Call Register; just verified it again last month.  Crappy to get these calls despite all we've done to avoid them.

Got a call from this number and when I got to my phone no one was there.  I too am on the No Call List.
