same as M, got a call while driving and when I answered, it was a  female voice recording saying "if you want to lower your credit card rate, push "1", and to be removed from the list, push 2.  I pushed 2 and the recording came back saying, "I have been removed."

I am just wondering, is it possible they are identity theft con people who will ask people if they pushed "1" for private info and if you push 2, they put you back in the "call in a few weeks" list?  They did not mention any bank or company that they are calling for.  I am surprised that they are calling my cell phone when I listed my number in the "do not call" government website.

This number called my cell phone (automated voice) offering to lower my credit card rate. So I continued with the call and a woman answered the phone asking if I wanted to lower my APR. Sounded like she was in a busy office with a lot of talking in the background. When I asked what it was in regards to she hung up the phone immediately.

I just got a call from this number and it was a recording of a woman saying that I had just won a cruise, then push 9 to continue with the call or push 8 to be removed from their list.  I pushed 8 and then another recording said I had been removed from their list.  The caller ID said it was a number from Pensacola, FL.

Same call cruiser had.  4:00pm CT on 5/15/08.  Caller ID said Pensacola, FL. Automated message stating to press 1 to lower your credit card interest rate.  Female (couldn't call her a lady) answered.  I requested to speak with her supervisor.  She said "of course" and hung up the phone.

Received a call from this number today, when I called back a message said it was no longer in service. We consumers must have some recourse against these calls that happen every day. I have an unlisted number and get calls every day from Florida. Who are we bucking here. Apparently these slimes have more protection than the average citizen.

Same call about "important msg: re: Last chance to lower interest rates on your creditcard acct"...no mention of which card; I just hung up
In past, no number on caller ID box, just "Creditcard Services"
I called Chase Credit Card Services, thet said its not them; they have
several complaints on this new number already, said its likely a scam.

This time, it showed ph no. "out of area" 850-432-3928, research show it to
be an unpub landline in Pensacola, Fl thru South Central Bell, now ATT/BELL SOUTH TELECOM

I haven't (yet) received any calls from this number, but I wanted to pass along some relevant information from a source I trust.

According to The Register, an Information Technology (IT) newsletter in the UK which cites this very thread on 800notes.com, these calls appear to represent a "vishing attack" (that is the Voice-over-Internet equivalent of a "phishing attack").  See http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/06/03/low_tech_phishing_scams/

So contrary to what some earlier posters claimed, these calls may not originate with "telemarketeers" or debt collectors after all.  And according to The Register, they most likely do not originate in Pensacola; the number given by caller ID is SPOOFED and most likely has no relation to the true origin of the calls.  According to The Register story, "Vishers typically set up demo accounts with one of the many VoIP providers, carry out their attack and then move to another provider."

There appears to be little recipients can do beyond logging the calls and reporting them to your state Attorney General's Office and to the FTC.  I'd also recommend calling local TV stations since on a slow news day they might run a story and help get the word out and perhaps even to bring pressure on law enforcement to crack down on this scam.

The reporter for The Register, Dan Goodin, asks that victimss or persons with information contact him at a link given at the bottom of the story.

(If he sees this--- thanks to you and to El Reg for covering this kind of scam!  It's a horrid topic but people need to know.)

I found this number on my caller ID on May 14th at 5:44pm... don't recall a message. I've been getting allot of calls from (850), (888), (000). Today my parents, who live in another state, received a call requesting they have me or my attorney call 888.211.1330 and ask for "Daniel Vishnevetsky" regarding an urgent matter. The person knew they were my parents, but my parents didn't feel good about the call from the beginnig and gave no info out. That call inspired me to check other numbers as well.

"Area Code Phone Scams":
Consumers usually receive a message requesting them to call a phone number with an 809, 284 or 876 area code concerning an important matter.  The caller assumes the number is a typical three-digit U.S. area code; however, the caller is actually connected to a phone number outside the United States, and charged international call rates.

"900 Number Switching Scams":
We all feel safe calling "toll free" 1-800 or 888 numbers, while knowing stay away from 1-900 numbers.  However, there exists an illegal scam that merges the two. An advertisement will claim an incredible offer. After placing the 1-800 call, an automated greeting asks that they press #9 to verify their number.  By pressing #9 (in some reported cases, #90), that call has just been transferred to a 900 number and through a long series of questions, the caller is kept on the line for as long as possible.

Thank you for posting the links above... it's a great place to start for those who need help.

I get this call about every 2 weeks on the recorder.  Tried to call the 850-4331850# back with my # blocked and said it was not a working #.  The recording offered to lower my interest rates but did not identify which bank/card company authorized the call.

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT - there is an ad just above 800Notes area where you enter the phone number to report(shaded blue) that reads: "Block your caller ID" "Display Any# on Your Caller ID. It's Totally Legal, Private and Fun"! Since we are a most irate group here I don't think they'll get many takers.
