They called offering to lower my interest rate (robot voice) I hit #1 for giggles and got this chick fast-talk trying to get me to roll all my cards onto their service at 6.5% and some other bs about matching rates which is 0% at Capital One currently . . . But when I asked exactly who they were and if they were affiliated with my current bank. The offered a name of a company I didn't recognize. I stated, please, "Don't BS me -- are you with the cards my phone number is already with or not?" THEY HING UP ON ME!?
Works for me ~ Cool, easy, bye bye.

what ever you do dont phone these sales companies back as they will add your number to a "active" list which means the number is registered and linked to a line (as in phone line) and then they are free to sell your number or keep pestering you
as for the option to take your number off there lists it (often) dosnt work and they will keep calling you anyway.

Received an automated call 3/29 at 11:31 a.m. about lowering my interest rate. I realized it was fake but it's the kind of call that makes it sound as though it was related to my credit card or some account I was involved with. I had the option of pressing #1 to speak with their representative or pressing #2 and be removed. I pressed 2 and wonder if it will actually remove me.

This number called my personal cell phone. I did not answer, and it left no message. When I tried to call back, the phone company's standard message said that the number had been disconnected.

I JUST now received a phone call on my CELL PHONE from this number. I didn't answer it, as I never answer calls that are from people that don't show up in my contact list. They didn't leave a message. So I googled the phone number and found this thread. I'm wondering how the heck they got my cell phone number. GRRRRRRR!

I just got a call from this number. I ANSWERED the call. The recording stated that my warranty was expiring. I pressed 1 to speak with a representative. She got on the phone and when I asked WHO she was and WHO she worked for she said it was a Warranty Services company and proceeded to ask for my vehicle information - speficically my VIN. I told her that I would provide such information as soon as she told me where she got my number from. She hung up. I called back using a different number and yes its disconnected. I'm guessing it only works as a LIVE call in other words it won't take call backs.

Received a pre-recorded message telling me that my vehicle warranty was about to expire. Told me to 'Press 1' to speak with a live person. I did; got some broad named Julia who called me 'Sweethart'. She stated she was with APC Auto Protection Center. When I asked for her phone number so I could call her back, she hung up. Calling back the number that showed up on the Caller ID, Jerry Goodwin, 850-638-9224, I got a recording saying the number had been disconnected.
I recorded the call and will be forwarding the recording to the National Do Not Call Registry. (Pick up a cheap telephone call recorder (Catalogue #43-1237; $17.99)and an inexpensive recorder (Catalogue #14-109; $31.99)from Radio Shack so that you, too, can record these calls and have an indisputable record of what was said.)

I didn't answer the phone, but they called my home and cellphone within in hours of each other. I was reading this over and I just want to let you guys in on a couple of things.( I use to work for Discover card and have learned a few things about phishing scams which i am 99.99% sure this is) 1) if you don't recognize the number and the person on the line doesn't give you a definitive answer as to who they are hang up, if your credit company wants to talk with you they'll be more than happy to have you call the # on your card so you are assured that you are speaking with the real company. 2)Never give information if you are not assure of who you are speaking with!3) there is no one company that will ask about multiple card networks...visa only deals with visa not master card or amex so if any one calls and says they are with more than one company it is not possible 4)Phishing scams can't be stopped by being put on the do not call list just as calls from creditors you already do business with can not be stopped. i.e. you have a visa card, the company can call you about the account status and market products they might sell. To stop this most companies will have a way to set an account up for non solicitation on certain things such as marketing calls and mail and even stop those pesky blank checks. Just remember that this is on an account by account basis so if you have more than one account with a company then you have to request these actions on all accounts.
Hopefully this will help avoid scams like this in the future.

Saw 850-638-9224 Jerry Goodwin on my Caller ID and didn't pick up. Wondered why Jerry was calling my house (was he someone my husband or I knew, etc.), so imagine my surprise when I found this website!!
| conniemae 2008-04-01 18:38:36 Unknown |
same same same.......who is Jerry Goodwin.....am sure it is not a real name of a real person...same as most credit card/collection/customer Service...
they have a name for each desk......different people on different shifts but always the same name......not real....not any of it.....you are right about the scam.....they hung up on me when I told them I had to ask my husband and call them back.......dial tone.............................
