I actually received a call like this on October 18, 2013 from a man with an Indian accent who claimed his name was "John Walker" and he was posing as an Officer for the Federal Trade Commission. I first asked him where he was located. He told me that he was on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington D.C. (go figure). I then asked the man how is it possible that he was calling me from D.C. when his phone number came up with a Florida area code (crickets, crickets.....). He proceeded to threaten me with going to jail for unpaid payday loans that totaled up to $15K, which is not true because I have no payday loans because payday loans are illegal in Atlanta, which is where I live. I told him that someone tried to write a $89.00 check from my student account which I don't even have checks for that account and I asked if he was the mastermind behind the $29.00 overdraft fees that my bank charged me because of some scam? I also told him that my credit sucks to begin with so whoever has 'stolen' my identity should share how they were able to get a loan because I could use one. This made him even more angry, so he continued to threaten me with a jail sentence of 5 months, which led me to question his "Indian accent" that clashes with his "American name." He then became furious and told me that I should expect the police to arrive at my house in 30 minutes to take me to jail. I LMAO'ed loudly in his ear and said, "let me get this straight, you are giving me a jail sentence over the phone without even going before a judge, and on top of that, you want to arrest me without a warrant and you are telling me that the police will be at home in 30 minutes with an arrest warrant to throw me in jail for 5 months....." #crickets!!!!! I told him that I will call the police on him and have him arrested for posing as a federal officer. LOL!!!!! I never even allowed him to explain to me why he was even calling. My husband tells me I should have let him finish talking to get more details, but why even entertain foolishness such as this? Don't be a sucker and fall for anything like this in America. We Americans know and understand the law very well. No one in American history has been arrested over the phone, no one has been sentenced to jail without going before a judge, and if the police want to find us, they know exactly where to find us and they don't give you a time frame as to when they will arrive at your house to arrest you....#smh!!! Note to scammers: get educated on the American government before you try to pose as such!!!!!!!!

They keep calling me asking for the owner and when I tell them this is an answering service I can take a message they hang up on me.  This happens EVERY DAY.  I called the number back and the recording is for magic talk.com.  This is a Magic jack number that is not assigned to anyone right now.  Very frustrating.  I am too busy to put up with their nonsense and then to be so rude as to hang up on ME?????

I called the number back immediately and the automated voice said something about Magic Talk being a business where you can call long distance for free.  It referred me to a website then said the Magic Talk customer I dialed has not set up something or the other and then disconnected.

I would love to know how they got my number...

A guy with broken english from India or somewhere asked for the owner of the Business so he could talk to them!  When I asked what he wanted he said he was from:  US Cellular Yellow Pages & wanted to up date my info!  I asked what business are you calling, to see if he new where he was calling?  He replyed the business name!  I said I'm not interested!  He said what aren't you interested in?  I said what ever you are trying to sell me!! Take my name off your calling list!!  He said good luck or something & hung up!!  Also my phone is on the NO CALL LIST!!!!

I filed a complaint with the National Do Not Call Registry, and I have since stopped receiving calls from that number.

This is a company claiming they are, as they said, "completing the business directory of the local phone book for your area".

I said: "Is this a sales call?"

Him: after a few seconds hesitation, "No."

Me: "You hesitated, I think you're lying to me, is it a sales call or no."

Him: "Do you want me to say yes?"

Me: "I want you to go kill yourself if this is a sales call, you do realize that you're calling a cell phone right now, correct? So, my question still stands, and f****ng answer it, IS THIS A SALES CALL?"

Him: "Yes"... hesitation.... then he hung up.

I dialed back and I was given this dialogue message, "This Magic Jack user has not been assigned to a user."

So sales companies are skirting the law in using Magic Jacks now, I'm calling the FCC and an attorney, they have my business and personal info and are calling me from untraceable lines at my cell number. I can't even believe how many laws they just broke here.

There ya go, I'm sure many companies are using this tactic now.

This phone number persistently calls my phone every day. Two days ago, I answered. The person called under the pretext of verifying my online yellow pages listing. The real purpose of the call, however, was to sell me placement on the first page of their directory results for my business category. I declined the offer, and the person tried to overcome my objections. As soon as she realized that she was not going to change my mind, she hung up on me before I could ask to be added to their do not call list.

Today, I answered the call again from this phone number and immediately asked to be placed on their do not call list. The person replied that they would have to delete my online yellow pages listing. I agreed, and the guy immediately hung up on me.

Both times, when I called the number back, it plays a recording which advertises http://www.magictalk.com. When you go to this website, it redirects to http://www.magicjack.com/plus-v04, which immediately starts playing an informercial.

Since my phone number has always been registered with the National Do Not Call Registry, at https://www.donotcall.gov, I went to this website and filed a complaint. This should end the problem. It has always worked for me in the past. I would encourage everyone else who receives calls from this phone number to do the same.

I gathered info that this is a foreign company trying to get our business information to try and start scamming money out of us.  They won't stop calling and I keep answering and hanging up.  More annoying than anything else.  I feel for the the sucker that actually gives out their business info to these fraudsters.

I did the same... He called back and asked me to speak up, so I yelled it again, and said "can you hear me now?" on the way to the receiver :)

Some indian guy, hard to understand, calling at 9pm for something. I told him i was not interested and hung up

Four calls in the same day from this number 850-910-7808 and the day's not over yet so  i;m expecting more. The first two were 20 min. apart now their 45 min. apart...STOP CALLING ME!  My phone is busy enough with clients, family and friend.

They have a website like yellow pages and wanted to update my Business Information.
I didn't subscribe because I deal with an exclusive type of client, not the general public. They still list me anyway. Even after I explained my type of Business he didn't seem to understand what I do.
But want to advise those who get calls from them, they are telemarketers just selling website listings.
I don't like telemarketers either but if you have a phone they will find you.

When you see a number from out of state, especially one that you don't recognize, either don't answer it - that's what answering machines are for - or just pick up and hang up. Simple. IF you want to give the courtesy of 5 seconds after you say hello and they don't answer, hang up. I just did.
BEST thing to do is accept the fact that there are these sorts of things out there. At least they are not hurting you. Unlike a situation like mine, where someone has stolen 7 pages off my website, "beefed it up" with lots of pixs and then goes to dating webs where he stalks lonely women, falls madly in love with them and then asks for money to bail a friend out of jail in Nigeria or China. The sad part is, lonely women do fall for this and have been taken for many thousand of dollars. The purpose of the website is to show that he is a successful entrepreneur.
Another scam is taking info off Facebook pages where everyone tells everything about themselves, friends, neighbors and relatives and it's easy to get the address phone numbers etc to make the contact. They will call you and say a young relative is in jail, needs bail money and "Oh, grandma, please don't tell mom and dad! It's only $4500 and I now you have it." Good reason not to get involve with FB where everyone tells everything.
Best advice is beware and if it sounds too good to be true, that's probably what it is.

I had the exact same type of call yesterday.9/12/11.  The guy sounded asian and said he wanted to update my information in the yellow pages, I told him to eat s*** and die.

I received a call from this number to my business line on 09/09/2011at 1710 hours.  The asked for the person who had placed an ad in a directory of some type but never gave a name.  They asked me for my name as if searching for information rather than knowing what they wanted.  I know what directories I have advertised  in, if it was with them, they would know also.  I hung up..seems weird to me, strange call, bad way for a national company? to do business.

Ok, maybe not so random. He left the same type of message again. He's just a weirdo that needs a hobby.

He left a message on my work phone that was a combination of heavy breathing and my last name learned by my voicemail greeting. I'm sure it was a random dial as my number is across the country from his Florida number.

Called twice in same day, 2 hours apart. Asked to speak with owner. Told him he's not here and to try later.

Called my business phone and didn't leave a message (naturally).

My otherline received a call from this #. After reading all the comments and actually knowing the logistics being from the NW now in in the NE I am convinced this is a phony caller I'd # from a bill collector in Washington State. I have bills there and I'm sure I am correct.

Now that is one for the books!

Woman with a heavy accent called asking to talk to the owner of my company. I think she said something about Internet yellow page listing... When I asked for more information, she hung up on me. I've made note of the number, so next time I'll be prepared to tell her we're not interested.

just got a call from this number.  I didn't answer it.  looks like our information has been sold to this company to sell their snake oil.

Just callled me at 8:45 PM Pacific time. So it's 11:45 in Fla. Heard music, and then hung up. Glad I googled the number so I can see they are obviously annoying dorks!
