Telemarketer

I will turn 65 in October.  So they started calling me to sell Medicare Supplemental Insurance.  They have been calling me 1 to 2 times a day, 5 to 6 days a week since April 29. I have told them I am on the do not call list and they continued to call. I placed the phone next to the tv and radio when they called and that did not discourage them. I then put a block on their calls, but caller ID shows they still call as often. So I have filed a complaint with my State Attorney General and the FTC. If enough complaints are filed this will be resolved. They would have to be licensed in each state they call in order to conduct business, so hopefully the Attorney General will fine them and pull their permits. Why would they think anybody would want top purchase their insurance when they harass them like this. - Fed Up

I also keep getting calls from this number.  I made the mistake of answering one time.  I was also told they were United Health Care.  Since I carry United Care I called them and spent over a hour on the phone with their marketing department going over the times and dates of these calls.  United Health Care did not hire these people.  I was transferred to their legal department to give them all the information I had on these calls.  I don't know if anything will happen but hey it was worth the time I spent if they can do something no one else can don't you think.  I may have done nothing more but blowing in the wind but at least I made one company aware that their name was being used by these scammers.

We receive calls from the above # at least 3 times a day including weekends.  We just let the phone ring. I am not at all interested in what they have to say. But to be quite honest to me this is haressment. I can't block the number on my phone, because of all the other numbers I had to block. As a result the phone has no more memory. Help!!!

Heard from this Tony and, he said they only call people who have expressed interest in what he offers. Not true of my household. He also said they only call up to 2 or 3 times a day. If no one answers they call back. Here's an idea Tony. Leave a MESSAGE and STOP CALLING. He said he'd make sure I was off the call list. If anyone wants to be off, I'd suggest you call him.

I was getting these calls also, day after day. Today, there was someone there when I answered and he said he was from etelequote. They have a website and, I called the number 727-953-9403. I called and got a recording for a Tony Sola, who gave cell # as 727-224-9993. I called that and left a message to stop calling. Don't know if it will help.

I'm another who's turning 65 in a few months.  Seems to be a clue - altho' how the telemarketers know this is puzzling.

More puzzling - if you read the comments on this number, you get a very depressing feeling about the people who post their comments!  Seems to be a lot of people who sit at their computers these days, looking for things to argue about.

Oy.

Whenever a phone number calls and you are on the Do Not Call List, Just tell them you are going to report them to the District Attorney's office, and they will be fined... Get the name of the person, and watch how the calls stop

Dave, Those calls are legal. This time of year the medicare hunters are out in force calling potential customers. They are calling to survey your needs, provide information, and attempt to arrange a face to face meeting between you and a representative of their company.  Therefore establishing a busines relationship.  Until you tell them not to, Any business can call you,  DNC or not, there is no immunity.  As long as they do not attempt to collect a fee for a product or service over the phone.  And that their intended and ultimate purpose for calling  is to arrange for a such a meeting.

Telemarketing= Telephone sales of goods or services.

When you consider the total number of telephones in the USA, and that 90+   percent claim to be on the DNC Registry,  how is it possible not to call someone on the DNC list?  Seems it would be easier and cheaper for the FTC to establish a "Please Do Call" list.  That would also eliminate all of the crying  "I'm on the Do Not Call List" posts on this board..

It is impossible for the ftc, fcc, and dnc to keep a thumb on all of the scammers, and scofflaws who abuse the system on a world wide stage. To me, it seems that the phone companies should be held accountable for allowing the users of the violating phone numbes to go unchallenged. The phone companies should terminate use by those who unlawful use phone numbers,  and be held accountable by the government if they don't.   Also, the phone system and caller IDs should not allow spoofed calls to pass.  I guess it's wishful thinking but nothing else is working and the DNC has outlived any practical usefulness.  It was just never intended or expected to handle the telephone chaos that we face today.

I see your point Lynn.  However, I myself think that I would prefer a fresh list of known and proven suckers. Ideally purchased from a payday loan or computer hacker's list of Dept. Store Customers complete with SS#, cc numbers, bank account numbers, date of birth,  favorite pet's name, first school attended, mothers maiden name,  etc.   But I can certainly see how the DNC list would be a cherished treasure of endless profit potential.  lol

I think you are right Annoyed.  I can't think of anything that a telemarketer, charity, politician,  or scammer could want more than a list of numbers of potentially hostile people who have signed up on a list that screams out "DON'T CALL ME!!"  Such a list would be a Gold mine for those telemarketers hoping to enhance their profit opportunities with a call welcoming list of potential buyers.  I can't immagine any list being more sought after, fertile and profit productive than this list of citizens who bitterly hate telemarketing calls at supper time and have gone so far as to register with the federal trade commission  "Don't Call Me"..

The DNC doesn't block calls and was never intended to.  For its intended and original purpose, it has become outdated.  It was just never intended to handle the mess that people are dealing with today.  A good Call Blocker is the best bet.  I have a digitone and use the universal block with an invited list. When a telemarketer calls, It never even rings one time. Although we shouldn't have to buy them, it has been Great for my peace of mind.

about the only thing that comes close is a call blocker. However, some find it hard to work within the confines of universal blocking.  I fortunately can and have a universal block on all but my list of invited callers.

It's funny how so many people who post here know so little about the do not call registry.  It seems that most think that once they register, they have complete shielding  against any and all unwanted calls. Some actually believe it is supposed to block their unwanted calls.  But their phone is still going to ring regardless of who dials the number and that "List" can't physically do a blooming thing to stop it.

Whoa there mr. Mosrite!  After reading Geoff's original post, and yours,  I think you may be reading into it something that is not there.   Like it or not, that is the way things are with the do not call list.  It pleases no one, and is outdate with all of the illegal callers that we have today as opposed to when the national dnc registry first came about in 2003. But I don' think he was suggesting any of the scenerios that you brought up in your post.

Ditto?  What part of my post is not true or fact?  I apparently know more than you about the subject at hand.  At least I understand why the DNC doesn't work to everyone's satisfaction.  Why don't you go to the site and educate yourself also.  Learn something so you can at least speak intelligently about a subject before calling others idiots...

Apparently not as big of an idiot as you.  At least I have taken the time to go to the site and read.  Why don't you Point out one part of my post that is not a fact! If I am an idiot,  point out why. It's easy to pop up on a board post and call someone an idiot, but don't say it because the facts are not what you want to hear.

I didn't say anything about your desires to hear from anyone.  I outlined the reason the list exists. I didn't say anything about your phone or your use of the phone. I could care less, those are words from your mouth. I don't care who clutters up your lines and wastes your time.  I don't care about who you contact for any reason.  What did my post have to do with giving out information to anyone?  Everyone pays money for their phone,  doesn't have anything to do with my explination of what the dnc does.  If you find one thing that is untrue in my post, let's hear it!  You are bringing up issues that has nothing to do with my post and explination of the dnc. You need to contact all of those persons you dont want to contact you and tell them they are not welcom, not point it out to me. I don't care who calls you.  Each and every part of your post has nothing to do with my explination and facts stated.  If you don't believe any part of my post,  how about you going to the DNC/FTC site and read a while.
