No, ours was not a scam. It was a balance on our best buy card. They never sent us our statements online like they were suppose to.
Yogi 2014-06-30 22:13:52 Unknown
Report it to Citi bank . If enough people complain about the ambitious ROBO calls not explaining what it is calling for, they may change it.
Yogi 2014-06-30 22:11:23 Debt Collector
We were receiving this same message too.EVERYDAY for WEEKS!!! I thought it was a scam, and never called back. We had just set up our Best Buy Account to send e-statements... and never got them. We had a balance on the account and that is what the constant robo calls were from. I read that others said you had to pay through the phone to stop the calls, but that is a lie. They are a collection division and only get paid if THEY collect the money. They don't want you to go online and pay or call best buy direct, because they don't get paid. It should say it it regarding your best buy card on the message!

I recieve an automated call daily telling me to call another number. I will not be calling the second number until a representative contacts me first.

received call from 1-855-234-7989 and they said its a company called mutual; saying I have a case open for fraud charges on a loan I had gotten and I never did
Fed Up with "Citi" Robo-Call 2014-06-22 19:03:00 Unknown
Several times daily over the last two weeks or so (June 2014), I'm being bombarded with the following robo-call message:
"We are sorry we cannot speak to you personally. We appreciate your busy schedule so please call Citi (or "City") at 1-855-242-6899. This is an an important message. It is not a sales call and any of our representatives can assist you. Again the number is 1-855-242-6899. We look forward to speaking to you."
To whom do I report this nuisance?

I received a call from this number at work. I hesitantly called them back given the reports of this number being a scam.
It is not.
I had a balance of $2 and some change on my Best Buy account, and by calling them back, I avoided being charged a late fee on my account.
don 2014-06-03 22:15:41 Unknown
It is truly best buy. We called the number on the back of the card. We don't hold a balance so it was weird. After calling the number she said they had been trying to get a hold of us because of our annual fee and a late fee because we hadn't paid.
d prat 2014-05-09 21:45:57 Unknown

Repeated calls from this number, always requesting that they receive a call back.

There are several phone numbers associated with the ?Best Buy/Citibank credit card? bamboozle. There is some good information at these related phone number threads:
The number that is usually the first one to try to contact someone:
877-561-2272 (Toll Free SVC)
http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-877-561-2272
The number they want you to call back to:
855-242-6899
http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-855-242-6899
The second number that calls after you block the first one. It has a ?proper,? possibly ?spoofed? CallerID:
423-467-6190 (CITI)
http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-423-467-6190
We are treating these as scam calls, since we have no evidence, whatsoever, that this is not a scam ? we have no Best Buy account, no Citibank accounts, no letter or bill in the mail, no summons ? we gots nothing but the sound of strangers? voices on a telephone line from who knows where, trying to tell us what to do.
The best advice says take this as a fraud, even if you do have a Best Buy account through Citibank that might be overdue. If you actually try to payoff an account or cancel your card permanently, you still have to watch your accounts because of the way the provider will use different unethical tricks to try to keep billing you for interest and late fees.

Received the same message three days in a row. Since it came through on our answering machine, the phone number that it emanated from was 877-561-2272. Posts regarding this number indicate it is also from Best Buy and apparently a scam.
Amanda 2014-04-27 15:35:19 Unknown
It's a scam. I used to get these same called from "credit Services" they just changed the name to City to sound familiar. Citi is a popular credit and bank, but this number is looking for personal info to commit fraud. Report it to the actual card # on the back of your credit card.
Amanda 2014-04-27 15:31:23 Unknown
This is not from Best Buy. It's a nation wide scam that tries to get your personal info. It is the same company as the random calls from "Consumer Credit services." Report it.
Amanda 2014-04-27 15:28:46 Unknown
It's a new scam from the same people that used to call with the name "Credit Services". Do not give them any info. So many people complained about the Credit services that they have changed the name to something familiar to scam card holders. Credit services have been reported on watch lists for fraud.
Amanda 2014-04-27 15:25:50 Unknown
I think it's from the same scam that used to call about credit services. I used to give them everyday, then about a month a go they stopped. I now receive this message EVERYDAY, sometime 3 times a day. It has nothing to do with Citi, or your credit cards. Do not give them any info.

Automated message has been calling my house phone every day this week, waking me up. I finally called them back. She said they were Best Buy. I told her to stop sending automated messages to my number. She said she could, but the message was for another person in my household. I asked for the message so I could pass it on but she said she couldn't give the information to a third party. I will pass the message on to my housemate & warn them about what I've seen on this page.

As soon as the male opporator answered he asked for my account number. I said I did not feel comfortable telling him that. He said that's understandable and to find out why I'm getting the phone calls to call the number on the back of my bestbuy card.

Recorded call claiming to be "City" and asking me to call 855-242-6899. The call came from 877-561-2272. Don't call them back, it's an identify theft scam!
Sherrie 2014-04-11 20:11:37 Unknown
Received this call two days in a row mid day. left a message as already posted wanting me to call beck...ah no thanks.
Vonage user 2014-04-09 16:21:57 Unknown
I've been getting the same recorded phone calls for MONTHS now, I live abroad so they call in the middle of the night to my Vonage line. this past week, the recording asks me if I'm Armando Perez, I hit 2 because I'm not, and asks me this twice...then it tells me to wait so I can correct the error, puts me on hold and eventually hangs up. OR It tells me that their operators can not take any calls at the moment. I have bought the stupid phone from Vonage to use overseas and I can't block the stupid calls. I can only turn the volume off and it's the biggest pain in the butt. After three days of me clicking on number 2 twice, that's SIX NOs, you'd think they'd stop calling me but they won't. I hate CITI BEST BUY and VONAGE. I HATE THEM HARRASSING ME DAY AFTER DAY.

I received a call from 877-561-2272 with the same message reported by others here. I recently signed up for a Best Buy credit card, which is managed by CitiBank. Rather than calling the number left on my machine (855-242-6899), I called Best Buy customer service. They did not recognize either phone number, nor the web address bestbuy.accountonline.com mentioned in the message. This caller is definitely not Best Buy or CitiBank, but apparently does somehow know who has a Best Buy credit card, to know whom to call.
Paula 2014-04-08 00:20:38 Unknown
I received 11 messages from this number, sometimes multiply times a day for over 4 days. The other number they used was 1-2-877-561-2271

Received two messages one this past Friday and one on Sunday. My # is on a do not call list. I don't owe anyone any monies, and was not familiar with that 855 # this is quite annoying to say the least. This may appear legitimate to some because Citi supposedly took over Best Buy. Best Buy would send you a letter stating this had occurred as when Capital bank took it over a couple of years ago. People be vey wary of unsolicited calls. Legitimate businesses more than likely will send you letters on their business letterheads.
in va 2014-04-04 23:09:27 Unknown
same as above, i do not owe any money to best buy and do not have a citi bank card. They will have to send me a letter if they want to reach me.

If you get a recording from this number, check your Best Buy credit card. You may be past due.

Received the call. Read the posts here. Called the number and they provided me with my son's name. I contacted him, told him about the call and told him to call Best Buy direct (back of card or invoice). I instructed him NOT to call the 844-242-6899 number.
Brad 2014-03-25 19:55:38 Unknown
Called the number and they said that they were Best Buy credit services. The guy I talked to looked up my account by phone number, but would not tell me why I was being called without providing my DOB or last 4 of my SSN (which I refused). I then called the number on the back of my Best Buy credit card (they only asked me to verify my name and address) and they said that my account was up to date and the only reason that they might be trying to call me is to confirm my contact information. I then gave them this phone number and the lady I was talking to did a search of the Best Buy phone list and did not find this number in the system. She said that it is possible that this is a Citibank number that is not in the Best Buy Credit system, but I am strongly leaning towards scam.

I just received the same message even when I picked up the phone in time. It assumed you wouldn't answer and automatically left the message. I knew it sounded fraudulent. I'm glad I looked up the number first.
