That would be the best bet, please call check n go first.  Do so before talking to anyone from this URG.

If you are being scammed (and I will be shocked if you aren't), URG will only make more threats and say some more deceptive things to string you along

Now, you have indicated they "emailed" you documents (and please see Elspeth's post about the validity of emailed documents --- if you don't mind me asking, what was the email address they used?  Did the last part of the email address have something specialized like @urg.com?  Or did it originate from a free email address like gmail, hotmail, or yahoo?

Elspeth is right on that. Its the law.. FDCPA says' they have to mail you, not email, fax or phone, validation of debt and give you 30 day's to answer/reply.

Section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf requires 3rd-party debt collectors to give debtors written notice of debt (the key word is *shall*) :
"§ 809. Validation of debts
(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing?
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;
(4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and
(5) a statement that, upon the consumer?s written request within the thirty-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor."

sassygurl - did you receive anything showing who owns the account now?  You may have to go back to Check n Go and ask them who they sold the account to - if, indeed, they even did so.  That's why it's so important to make sure that the caller mails not only proof that you owe the debt, but also proof that the account was sold to them - so that you don't end up paying scammers.  If you find out you did pay them when they don't have a legal right to collect, you may want to report them - not only to the FTC, but also to your state's Attorney General, and I guess it wouldn't hurt to try the BBB either.

And thank you for sharing this experience here.  If you do have an unpaid loan, I would caution you that you are actually paying the rightful owner of the debt.  If URG doesn't have it, your noble intentions of paying back what you owe would be working against your interest since the rightful owner will contact you to collect and they could sue you.

Now, if you do need to pursue legal action the following may be useful

Now, this gets very intersting

I had seen this earlier before I paid it.. The only reason y I paid is because I had just taken the loan out about 7 months ago and I lost my job and couldn't make payments anymore. I contacted Check n Go to let them know this but they refused my payment if I did not pay it in full.. And didn't have that kind of money.  And this was 3 months ago. And so now that I am working and I received that mssg from Brook today . I just paid it BC I did borrow the money and needed to pay it back. Like I said I have my receipt from my payment and a confirm action number and a settlement letter that I am keeping . in case I have to take these ppl to court.  I just thought should let ppl know of my experience.

Although folks here tend to be cautious (and for good reason, we see a ton of "fake testimonials" for organizations that are up to no good), but many can be very helpful.  It is just an effort to try to keep folks from getting scam

Along those lines, if you can post up some details that that PO Box, folks including me would be glad to look into it for you

Being a "green" company does not allow an alleged debt collector to avoid MAILING documentation relating to the alleged debt.  Any company who refuses to mail this info is in violation of federal law!  Just because someone says you owe them, does not mean you do.  That's why they - again per federal law - must PROVE they have the legal right to collect that debt.

I guess the email would seem legitimate in the eyes of someone who just might be associated with this outfit and trying to justify their scam online. Their supposed response to you already proves that they're a scam, since it's the law that they have to provide written documentation of a debt upon request. Any company that won't do it is violating the law. Your spelling skills are a great indicator that you're one of the scammers yourself, since these criminals are notoriously illiterate, which is why they can't find any other job. Online? Paided? Really? (Shakes head and walks away.)

Per the FDCPA, you should not pay any caller who refuses to MAIL - do not accept email or fax - proof of debt/proof your callers have the legal right to collect said debt.  Refusal to MAIL this documentation within five days of their first call is a violation of federal law.  Based on reports around the Internet and other posters, this is a group of scammers.

I'm also amazed that any "positive" reviews NEVER give the legal company name, physical address and website.  Hmm, I wonder why??!

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
 If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

This company is a SCAM claiming to be a group attorneys and state prosecuters, calling claiming that I have a case number for writing "worthless" checks. When I ask what the bad check was for, they tell me an EFT for a payday loan. They refuse to provide me with a company address or office location or any legitimate verification of the debt. They have threatened arrest. They have called past employers and relatives of mine. They did an unauthorized background check and used my social security number to pull my credit report. They looked up my business phone number online and call me there too, even claiming to personally know some of my clients. I was initially contacted in March of 2014 by "Dolores Bryce" who gave me her number 866-747-4309 ext 226.  After having my attorney contact her twice, the phone calls stopped for about 3 weeks. Now I have someone who goes by the name Alejandro Williams calling me. They will not honor my request to stop contacting me and people that I know. I've told them they are violating FDCPA in every way possible. This is clearly a scam company. I have searched them on the internet and found many complaints! They tell me I can pay over the phone or it will cost about 5 times as much in court. DO NOT SEND THEM ANY MONEY AT ALL! No matter what they know about you. It's nothing but a scare tactic.
