Debt Collector
This is most definitely a scam.  These guys called me for a debt that had been discharged as part of a bankruptcy in 2003.  It's 2011 now.

Yes, they called about a debt that was eight years old.  In addition, the debt that was discharged was for $900 (was part of a larger bankruptcy) but they were telling me I actually owed them $4,000 after "fees."

The man on the phone was rude and obnoxious (like you'd expect).  He violated the law in several ways - threatening manner, etc.  He also was very quick to start yelling as soon as I mentioned that the debt had been part of a bankruptcy, and was eight years old.  I think he was surprised to know that I knew what a statute of limitations was.

A few tips on how to deal with these people:

- NEVER give them money.  Deal only with your direct creditors.
- Never acknowledge your place of residence.  Make them identify themselves first.  Legitimate collection agents (they are out there) will do this gladly.
- Understand that collectors have two courses of action:  they can either sue you for the money or they can leave you alone.  You CAN send them a cease & desist letter which forces them to make this decision.  You DO NOT have to talk to them.

Read this.  All of it.  It's the Fair Debt Collections and Practices Act.  The law will protect you.

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf

I have a pretty low opinion of most debt collectors, though some are out there to legitimately collect money you owe.  You need to take proactive action on your debt and decide what you're going to do about it.  You also need to know that you CAN decide to not pay it.  At that point, whoever owns your debt can then decide to sue you or not.  But you DO NOT have to deal with jerks calling you, faking that they're the police, etc.  Knowledge is your friend.

I am an attorney. My identity was stolen I'm 2003 and therefore have a debt with a hbnc bank.  This matter was resolved in a court of law but still in my records. This institution which is a flattering overstatement find this information and use fear tactics to motivate you to give your info to resolve the matter.  For any of you who feel that this isn't a scam call you county clerk with the case number. This will remove all doubt. They also (the fraudulent company) will tell you you can't pay with anything other than a credit card. And if you truly have an unresolved debt you will be paying out twice what you owe to pat these con-artists hourly wage.

I just got a call from Mr. Brown at Process Service Veification/AG Financial (1-855-260-9375).  He was looking for my husband, who has shipped out for the Army.  This guy was trying to collect $10,000.00 and told me he was taking my husband to court.    Well, I turned around and researched the company and it seems like they are a scam so I filed a report with the Federal Trade Commission - I suggest everyone else does, so these people can end up in court like they threatened us.

What a joke. Richard Taylor called me from this number, stated I was in the process of being served, and how I should take this VERY SERIOUSLY. LOL. I was served 3 years ago from the sheriffs department, for a credit card  I owed money to.Had a court date too. That was the end of that. So I told them to put a judgement against me, cause I was not giving them any money to settle the debt. I owe many creditors, and really am not frazzled by anyone calling. No such thing as debtors prison, and laws protect us from harassing callers.
I will pay these debts  off, once my truck is paid for. But mortgage and my car loan comes first.

So I received the same call from legal services. I am familiar with the court filings in my state and county and its all a scam! When you are a tax paying government employee its easy to be served papers but they say that all their attempts to serve me failed but they called my home, work and even contacted my daughters ex in laws. They want you to pay out to not have this go to court. But the "case number" isn't even real! I checked. Save yourself the trouble and ignore it.

You all have one thing in common. It appears you owe a financial intuition money.I too
received a call from this number. When i researched the number.what i found was interesting
.The call was about a debt i failed to pay .Now who's fault is that?.To make matters worse i called
an Attorney for advice .I explained all the details to her. What a surprise, her response was to
call them back and try to settlement your debt. She stated i have 3 options. But only one is less
costly and that is the option to settle the debt. The other options were to retain her services for more than twice the cost of the debt. Finally the last option was to continue to not pay my debts and deal with the consequences AKA BAD CREDIT.Simply put if someone owed me money i would hope that they would try too or want too do the loyal and right  thing and pay up.I HATE BANKS AND CREDIT CARD COMPANIES.But they loan money because  people need to borrow money thats just how it works. If i failed to pay my debt that is my fault not some rude, loud, nasty or whatever else you may want to call them debt collector.........

I received a phone call from this number on my cell phone and at my place of employment claiming they were from the department of justice and even told my employer I was being sued and asked for my personal information.  Tried to even get my work schedule from my employer.  They demand money to pay some debt they try to say is owed and tell you, you are being sued. They even gave my employer a claim number.  When you call the number it is a general mail box for you to leave a message. These people need to be shut down asap. number is 855-260-9375.  I wish my employer would have been smart enough to realize it was a scam and to know any legitimate collector or law office or department of justice would not discuss personal information with a manager the most they could do is leave a phone number and their name. SERIOUSLY

A person named Frank left a message about a notice-to-appear that I needed to be served with and told me to call 855-260-9375 to confirm that I will be present for the process server. I called the number back from a pay phone, and a guy answered with "Legal Services." When I told him about the message I received, he looked up my "case number" and then mentioned random four digits and asked if those were the last four digits of my social security number. He then continued to throw out additional random, incorrect information to try to make me verify or volunteer my personal information. I asked him for the name of the company and he said "AGF." As I was talking to him, I heard other guys in the background having these similar conversations. Obviously this is a huge identity theft scam. This is not the only 855 number and definitely not the last one.
