They are registered with the IRS, according to Guidestar.org:  http://www.guidestar.org/organizations/52-097 ... foundation.aspx

I really wish people would do their homework before they post incorrect information on these sites.  If you check Guidestar.org BEFORE you donate to a non-profit or organization, it will help you decide if that's really who you want to give your money to.

I called this phone number today at 10:30AM EST from a blocked line, and it most definitely answers as "American Veterans Pickup Service."   There is a website by this name of:  www.amvetspickup.org

And how exactly do you know they are not legitimate?  When I called this number from a blocked line, it answers as "American Veteran's Pickup Service."    There is also a website by that name of www.amvetspickup.org

Before you assume a charity or non-profit caller is a scam, it would be helpful if you would indicate here how you reached that conclusion.

They ask you to call if you have anything to be picked up and then they keep calling you every day!   They are listed under "Ones to avoid" on Clark Howard's Military Charities page so I've blocked them from calling me.  Charities sell your information so, from now on, I will give to just the one that hasn't sold my info since I requested them not to do so.

I also give Purple Heart donations.  One day they called me to see if I had anything for pickup.  When they called me, I asked them to take me off their list   I told their rep I would call them if I have anything.  Purple Heart sends a card giving their pick up date.  On that card is a number you can call back.  So far, they have been great. (Were just in my area this past Friday & I did not get a phone call.) According to the rep I spoke with, they are not part of Central Donations.

I have been getting calls from 855-268-3870.   A message was left on my voicemail to call Central Donations (855-328-9062) if you have articles of clothing, household goods, etc to be picked up for AmVets.  I called that phone number within 5 minutes of the call.  All I get is a recording stating their office is closed.  So, I called 410-27-5900 to have my name removed from their call list.  Rep said, "If you remove your number, you AIN'T gonna get any more phone calls". Very professional!!!!! At that point, she hung up on me.  When I try to call the 855-268-3870 number, I get a recording that the call can not be completed.  Not sure if this is some kind of scam......Seems to me if they wanted donations, they would provide better phone service.

This number belongs to Central Donations on behalf of Amvets and the caller left a message about needing donations. I have donated clothing to Purple Heart before so I can understand why these people might have called.
