Debt Collector
this guy by the name Mark Cerroni called me threatening me with a warrant for my arrest on a civil and criminal charge on a bounced check made with a cash loan company. Im so challenged because of the fact that he called a few of my family member who were upset and worried for my well being and I have to calm them down. wth!!!! 1. I did not make a check out to any cash loan company. 2. He refused to give me the address. 3. this guy was hustling me bluffing on the other end of the line with his "papers to be served to me" bull.

I warn you not to be afraid of these scam, money pigs, selfish, sweat eating b*****ds. Call their bluff and dont give them a dime!

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

This company had a major flub up when the county courts supposidly called me on columbus day lmao. I am heading up to the bank today to dispute the 50 dollars they did manage to swindle out of me. The bank told me that they will go after them for the money then. I also reported them to the local police and the FTC.

} So its not a scam or your not a schill when you borrow money from payday lenders and dont pay it back, right?

The terms of payday lending are so lopsided against the borrower that the fraud against the lender you are so anxious to prove is next to impossible. The PDL shops target people with the least means to repay and rope them into an endless loop of stacking interest and extensions of credit until they are bled dry. The "scam" is that payday lending is allowed to exist at all.

A borrower cannot be a "schill" because no such word exists in English.

} What's wrong with that.  [collection based on contract law] ... Its truly a testament to your character!

Lawfully conducted debt collection is not at issue and not what people are discussing here. My personal character and those of other commentors are also not up for debate. Deceptive, hostile, and illegal collection tactics and making dubious if not false debt claims ARE reported as part of the business model of this firm, and many others like it.

When debt collectors are caught abusing people's rights, often the first thing judges take away is their right to collect from victims, since by extension they have abused the power of that not-so-almighty lender contract you are thumping with your hairy fist. Then the offending collectors lose their assets via damage awards to the people they have wronged. To restate in an all-caps manner you can understand, THE RIGHTS OF THE COLLECTOR END WHERE ITS ABUSE OF THE ALLEGED DEBTOR'S RIGHTS BEGINS!

} How about we revert back to the descent fundamentals that made our country great

The debt collection industry has indeed been in a state of "descent" for years into worsening abusive practices as the middle and lower class money wells dry. Few seem capable of *decent* behavior, and all have forgotten a time when a damaged credit history was considered punishment enough for default.

Mark, stop pretending that consumer rights are a foreign concept. Stop insisting that every collector action is both legal and justified. Stop crying "He hit me back first" every time victims of your plundering schemes stand up and show a backbone. And for cripes sakes, stop making a pathetic mockery of yourself in this thread.

So its not a scam or your not a schill when you borrow money from payday lenders and dont pay it back, right? Thats not a scam right? The comment about, if its not the original creditor is quite comical. So let me get this straight, if the original lender tries for a couple months to get there money back, and you refuse to pay, or cant pay, so they sell the rights of the contract to a 3rd party, to re-coupe some of there loses. What's wrong with that. The person assuming legal rights, has every right to try and get the money you borrowed and still havent paid back, back!!!! Its truly a testament to your character! How about we revert back to the descent fundamentals that made our country great, IF YA BORROW MONEY, PAY BACK WHAT YOU OWE! STOP CRYING FOUL!

Debt Collector
Received a call two days in a row at work with the first caller stating his name was "Investigator Cimmonelli" and that he needed to get my input on "suspicious activity" relating to a Chase bank account and a yahoo account in my name and that if I don't call back I will be pleading no contest to check fraud (which is NOT true.)

The caller today stated his name was Jason Melrose and said he was calling from EAG, or Economic Advisory Group, and that they needed to hear from me immediately. Said he had recordings of my "father-in-law or actually the father of my soon-to-be-baby's father" and that he stated he had nothing to do with the account and that he would be willing to press charges against me for collateral check fraud.

First of all - I am not pregnant and never have been, so I don't have a soon-to-be-baby's father. My long-time boyfriend and I do live together, but his father has been deceased since 2007. This caller is just making up lies to scare or intimidate people into calling back. They use a lot of terms that make you think they are involved in a court case against you when in fact that is not the truth. They are trying to collect on ILLEGAL payday loans for which they truthfully have no right to collect or were never taken out in the first place.

I know my rights and I would like to send this company a request for validation of debt, however they will not provide me with a mailing address and their website only lists a city and state (Buffalo, NY). Does anyone have a valid mailing address for this company? Their website is www.economicadvocacygroup.com

Does anyone have a valid mailing address for this company, Economic Advisory Group? Their website only lists Buffalo, NY, but no address. I want to send them a cease and desist letter, but I cannot do that without an address and I don't relish the idea of trying to get it out of the scammers over the phone. They are calling me at work. Thank you,

Sued across the board?  All I am aware of is two or three SLAPP suits that have never gone anywhere.
When you make up stories and other people know the facts, it makes you look foolish and desperate.  It's not the comments about EAG that convince people you are bogus, but your own deceptive words.

Your blazingly obvious false "positive reviews" are in the trash where they belong. Last I checked in the page header this is not a business review site, though *truthful* comments of evaluation are permitted when they do not break the service terms.

You might want to "check public record" [sic] yourself. Many have tried and all have failed in a red-cheeked shame to tear down this site with reckless charges of "defamation" and "libel". Else they bawl about my favorite, "slander", which is impossible unless a site hosts audio or video files.

Your firm is reported to make illegal threats to collect on unproven PDL claims. That's enough to paint a scam to me. Shilling is when you and/or your lackeys dump false stories in this thread in a desperate ploy for reputation damage control. "Shrill" is what your author's voice has become in my mind.

But thank you for continuing to defame an American Institution that actually HELPS consumers get out of debt. PS-where all the positive reviews for this company-about 8 have been removed by you??

Look it up. Julia Forte is the operator for 800 notes. She's being sued all across the board for taking away from operating American businesses. The people who say scam work for her (probably in India). Please take these notes with a grain of salt. EAG is a real company and they will help you out with your needs. Watch this will be removed

No its not! Debt is sold everyday after the account is deemed delinquent. If you don't fulfill the terms of the contract, the original lender isn't going to chase you for it; theyll sell it to ppl that can move forward civilly.
