They just called me with an automated message that said they are MMG calling with an important legal matter. This is definitely a scam, I get multiple calls per day stating they have my file and I owe various companies for payday loans. I have never taken out any loans not to mention the information they have doesn't even match what they say. They get your information offline when you fill out applications for different things and then they start calling from all over. I frequently get called from different states with the same messages as well. They try to sound legit, but what kind of debt collector warns you about being served or a warrant being issued and then says good luck, God Bless or may God be with you. They need to be praying for themselves considering what they are doing.

Got the same call today, from James Rogers.  Call wasn't even for me, and they left ALL the SAME information on a voicemail.  They violated every single aspect of the FDCPA.  What I am trying to find out now, is WHO they are collecting FOR.  They were hired by SOMEONE to collect old debts.  I am going after them AND whoever retained their services.  Total scum.  You can't be thrown in jail for a debt.  Do NOT give them any banking information - NO to AUTO WITHDRAWALS.  Protect yourself!!!!

These phone calls started today. I called told them it wasn't me 2. The third time I called, obviously upset, and asked to speak with a manager. He told me there was no manager and that I was a f****ng jack a** and that he will never take me off his call list! Let's just say though they don't like when you start calling them back 10 times a day!

Just today received a call, I actually pay for Prepaid legal and immediately called them regarding this specific call.  I read all the other comments listed above and they all sound the same. I was advised to NOT call them back until I hear from my lawyer, so to me this automatically raises a RED FLAG. Rule of thumb, do not give information to anyone, and call block from your phone.

Call me all the time I talked to someone who does this for a living and they said to be polite ask if the call is being recorded if not tell them you will call back so you can record the conversation. When you do call back make sure you tell them you are recording them. The funny thing is I haven't worked in 13 years so I wonder who they are sending stuff to.855-274-4960 and 855-208-1896

This is a petty scam to try to get personal information. They called asking for a work verification for a job which I did not apply to. Please report them as a nuisance call on the national do not call registry so they will have to stop. Every number I have complained about has stopped calling me.

This is 100% a scam.  PLEASE DO NOT EVER SEND THESE PEOPLE ANY MONEY.  I wouldn't even return their calls except to maybe ask for their address so you can send them a cease and desist and debt validation letters.  Chances are they will not provide you with their address.  No legit debt collector would not tell you their address or threaten people the way they have.  The threats they are making are major FDCPA violations.  A debt collector does not have the authority to suspend your drivers license.  If they were legit they wouldn't bother calling you about serving you papers to appear in court.  They would just send them, most likely certfied mail, to you.

These people are nothing more than lowlife criminals trying to scam people out of their money.

The caller left a voicemail telling me they were contacting the department of transportation to suspend my license and that I would be soon revoked banking privileges for 7 years because of a check I wrote for a payday loan in 2008. They said I'm sched for a court appearance and that they would show up at my job and have my hr department be witness to my issuance a warrant to show up in court. I called the number back and a man answered and transferred me to another man who sounds like the one from the voicemail however he gave a diffwrent name James Rogers-on the vm he said his name was roger Adams and he kept referring to the person who left the voicemail for me as a different person but it was definitely the same guy. He tried using scare tactics to get me to pay this collection debt and was acting as I he was a part of the court system when he actually was clearly a debt collector. When i offered the option of a payment plan with auto withdrawals he said no and would only accept upfront payment in full which I couldn't do. Is this a scare tactic or are these threats legit?

Also rec'd a call from a blocked number saying to return a call to 855-274-4960.  Automated call saying they're calling to verify my employment.  It would be in my best interest for me or my attorney to contact them immediately.  Of course, as usual with these "companies" they never say what they're calling about our who they're calling for.  This is the 12th company this year to contact me like this.  On the rare occassions I find an address for them, I send them a letter demanding that they prove the debt, the calls stop from that one & another one takes their place.

now they call from 877 795 2044 saying to call back to 855 274 4960 they say they are N&G and need to call them before sending verification to my employer for ???  Told these idiots earlier this year I am not employed and to stop harrassing me.  It is still illegal because they do NOT mention that they are a debt collector nor that they are trying to collect a debt.. Another FTC complaint going that way

Don't give them the time of day---UNLESS they validate the debt. NO validation, NO debt. It's that simple. Here's what the FTC has to say about this:

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I have gotten several calls from this company. They say I owe $510 if I pay now or they will take me to court and it will cost $1510. It is a debt they say from 2007. They said I will be served paperwork at my employers office. I explained I filed bankruptcy yet Rico Green (guy who called me) states it wasnt included. So I am assuming this is a scam and I shouldnt do anything? They even emailed me a contract they want me to sign and give them credit or debit card info.

I am receiving multiple calls from this number every day.  They are calling regarding my son. Stating they will go to his employer with a police escort to serve him and if not him then his employer or the HR Dept.  I called them back and told them my son does not live here nor does he live in this state.The guy just hung on the line and would not say anything.  I am wondering if a C & D letter will work when it is not me they are calling about but they are calling my number? They have also called my neighbors asking for my son or information about him. Isn't this illegal? Do I need to change my number?

Follow this link to read complaints on this company and to have a better understanding of how to handle these calls.

http://www.bbb.org/upstate-new-york/Business- ... aints#breakdown

Most cease and desist letters will work in these matters and don't need drafted by an attorney. Be sure to research what should be in a C&D letter. You will need to speak with the bill collector at least once to get information from them. You will need a reference or account number. Their contact information will be found at the link provided. You should get delivery confirmation, but it is not required. Also, if you have an attorney, make sure you add at the bottom left cc: Attorney Name or Law Office of *** and send a copy of the letter to your attorney for their records. If you don't have an attorney, make one up. :-)

Good advice. If you ever receive a 1099-C on an UNVALIDATED debt, notify the IRS immediately--otherwise, you may end up with a bill for back taxes you do not owe. A pond scum junk debt buyer got their butts kicked after we turned them into the IRS for filing a bogus 1099-C on a debt they never validated.

Also be aware that a creditor  can only file a 1099-c  in the amount of the original debt.  If an original debt has been previously written off by the original owner,  the 3rd party collector cannot claim loss through a 1099-c and rewrite it off except in the amount they paid to acquire ownership and only legitimate additional charges..
If a 1099-c is suspected to be filed,  contact the IRS and advise them so that a notice in your file will alert them to it being suspect.  You have the right to challenge a 1099-c with the IRS and if you win,  the ones that filed it will be held accountable.  The problem is that most people don't know what a 1099 is and never even think of challenging it with the IRS. That's why shady 3rd party collection businesses get by with it.  The many that get past the IRS out weighs those few that are challenged.

They called me from various numbers and never say who they are. Finally today, I got a warbled message that sounded like the voice for Anonymous- you know the one they sent to Westboro Baptist Church. Anyway, it sound robotic and they threatened to call my place of employment. I was there all day no one at work said anything to me. What the heck? Can they legitimately do this? I though summons came from a court of law. Not some  robot with a fake office. What do we do now?

They cussed me out and all i kept asking them was what kind of company they were. They called me "f****ng stupid" and several other choice things. I informed them THEY were being recorded and they hung up. Im not as stupid as they think i am. They also threatened to come to my house an "beat what i owe out of my shot talking a**".... really?? This compay called about my husband and told me that they would put a lean on our house, cars, and they would freeze our account and they also tryed saying they would take my husbands license if this matter was not taking care of. I was all worked up over this until i did research and found out they do this to people all the time. But they also had some guy keep calling me private saying he was an attorney and was bringing the summons papers to my house. Noone ever showed up with any papers and these people keep calling with recordings saying I need to get ahold of them. This is super annoying and they need to find something better to do with their lives then bother people about debts that they obviously dont have the money to pay or it would already be payed!!!!
