this so-called company has called several times even tho I have explained repeatedly I am not the person they're looking for and I have no idea what they're talking about. these 'companies' often have erroneous information which very negatively affects whoever the person is they're looking for. most who work for these 'companies' are not educated, have no experience and have poor personal ethics.

It is important to know your rights. Do a web search on credit collection rules for your province ie - search for "ontario+credit collection rules" There is a great deal of  good information 'out there'. Just make sure it is coming from a reputable source. Most people in debt have been swamped by the bank-created financial implosion and many many good companies folded taking good jobs with them. People with debt issues have often been pushed over the edge by events beyond their control. They now become prey for unscrupulous collection agencies. Remember - the bank simply wrote off the debt, took a tax credit for the business loss and went on their way.

Each province has mechanisms to deal with that. For example, in Ontario the Ontario Limitation Act 2002  came into force on January 1, 2004. It sets two years as the term (Section 4). This limitation will be reinstated where the debtor acknowledges the debt or makes a partial payment towards repayment of his debt. This means if you acknowledge the debt in writing or verbally (assume you are being recorded), the limitation will reset and they can pursue you for an additional two years.

If the default occurred prior to January 1, 2004, the creditor will continue to have 6 years to pursue the claim. However, if the default occurred after January 1, 2004 then the 2-year rule applies.

Read. Get the information that's out there. He who will not read has no advantage over he who cannot read. Well prepared with information is well armed.

Sorry for the long post but I know too many people struggling to simply be quiet

This is how you get rid of "calls" from a collection agency. In your province you will have a "Consumer Protection Agency" as in the Ont Consumer Protection Agency. Their web site will have guidelines these slim balls have to follow and they will eventually, because the fines are levied and are heavy. Plus they can loose their province wide licenses.

It may take 2 -3 weeks before they quit from all their offices.

1) find the slim balls web site, get the head office FAX # and send them this fax.

Partners in Credit Inc.,
9225,Lesile Street
L4B3H6,Richmond Hill,Ontario
Ph 855-282-5581

Fax: 905-886-5784
Dec 20, 2012
From:( your name or the name they state)
Ref: (the number they give in the phone message)

I have been advised by Consumer Protection (your province), to contact you by fax and
advise you, that if you intend to contact me in future, it must be IN
WRITING ONLY at the following address.

(whatever valid address, if not CPA may not help you)

If I receive any further telephone calls from any of your organizations
branches, they have advised me to file a written complaint with
Consumer Protection (province).

Sincerely,

2) Keep the fax record as the CPA will ask for proof.
3) Record any calls they make after a certain time for the CPA.
4) If they don't stop definitely file a complaint with your Provinces CPA, they will definitely call you and will act on your complaint, at lest they did with me and it works.
5) toss their letters in the garbage.

This company have been calling us for over 3 years looking for an individual who has never lived at this location, neither have they ever had my phone number, I will now be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and I will track down their CEO and give them a piece of my mind.

This stupid company calls me everyday 2 days looking for someone whom I don't know. Obviously it was someone who had my cell phone number before I got it. I recently put them on my "black list" app so I don't have to deal with them, but they still call every morning either at like 7:30ish - 8:30ish. They also just don't call once, they'll call again. I'm seriously getting sick of it & I wish that I could report them since I am not the person that they are looking for. & this has been going on for about a year now.

It's obvious to me that this is a scam.  The 855 area code is not toll-free according to the operator of my cell phone, contrary to their claim in a voicemail message they left for me a while back, and the only thing they'll tell me is that the call is regarding some "business matter."

Someone called today from this number and when I confronted them that the operator confirmed that 855 is not toll-free, they got very defensive and accused me of having an attitude.  I took offense to this and then the guy accused me of using him as a human punching bag.  The conversation then escalated to swearing and yelling because he kept cutting me off -- he's wasting my time, so he should damn well listen to me (yeah, I have attitude since his ridiculous accusations).

Whoever these scammers are, they're also time-wasting jerks.  Report them to phone busters when you get a call from them instead of calling back because 855 will incur long-distance charges since it is not a toll-free area code.

Collection agency.  Calling for a former employee who used to have my phone line.  Demanded I track down the person they were looking for,  which I'm pretty sure was their job.  Asked for an advance to cover expenses, they slammed the phone down.  Delightful bunch.

Are you saying DJ is lying when he reports that the collection officer he spoke to was rude and abusive? It seems to me his anger was more than justified!! I have often experienced such behaviour from collection agencies in the past, although recently it has become much less common, and sometimes they have been helpful in directing me to credit counselling services. Those dinosaurs who can't adjust should be put out to pasture, and the fact that the 'gentleman' refused to disclose contact information for his company indicates to me that he was well aware that he was crossing a line that could have cost him his job.

Got several calls from this number for my elderly father. Automated voice said that it involved an urgent matter and gave a reference number. I tried to call back and it was some collection agency. I told them that my dad is in his 90s and has never been in debt, especially now. I was then spoken to in a very rude manner and the man on the line called me a "bullsh*ter. Some b*****d scam company most likely trying to get money out of my ill father! Scumbags! They didn't give me their company name. How can I report them?

I have gotten several calls now from this number. The message left is a male voice saying "Hello. Press any key to speak to me live." There is a pause and then the call hangs up. I have no idea who this is, there are no reports or listings for this number anywhere, and there's not a snow ball's chance I'm going to press any key!!!
