I too got a call today about a pay day loan I've since closed my account because they were trying to take too much money. This arbitrator said I would be served. I asked for documentation of the loan and something to prove I owe this money. He said that it was in the hands of the collection agency and that he's just an arbitrator trying to help so I'm not served. I am not paying anyone who can't give me proof of anything.
I also found a site to see if payday loans are legal in your state and how to file complaints

These same a-holes called me on my cell and told me I was being named in a case from an old PDL back in 2007. The lady told me they were cracking down on old cases all across the country so it wasn't just me. She said I had until 8/30 to pay $726.00. Admittedly I freaked out a little. She told me I was going to be served a warrant and brought up on criminal charges. I barely slept that night. I prayed and the next day I had a moment of clarity. I called my local DA office and left a message. A clerk called me back and stated none of this sounded legit and my name was on no pending dockets. She then transferred me to the warrant dept and there was no such pending warrant. I them went online and what do ya know.....these ppl are run of the mill scammers!!!!! All of these posts sound exactly like my call but ive noticed they have changed their number. The call initially came thru blocked, but the call back number was 855-339-4039, 'united national arbitrators'. I called them back and told them they were scammers. The guy got ticked off and told me I wouldn't be so smug when they came to arrest me. That was it!! I called the FTC and filed a complaint. I then talked to a credit counselor and she gave me TONS of great info. Basically NO ONE IS LEGALLY ALOUD TO THREATEN YOU, physically or verbally, this includes threats of arrest!!!  I strongly suggest everyone report these people. Whether u owe a debt or not u have rights. Arm yourselves with knowledge and don't fall prey. When u know the law and challenge them they go running like the scum they are!'

Got a missed call from a blocked number. The guy left a message said his name was Arthur Clayton. Gave me this number to call back 855 339 4039 ext 309. He said there was a fraud case pending against me and that by law he had to notify me within 72 hours. Not sure what this was so I called back.

When I called there was an automated greeting. I pressed this guy extension and he picked up. He said he had to get my case and then put me on hold for almost 10 minutes.

When he got back he knew my name and last 4 digits of my social. He said he was calling on behalf of Great Plains which is a payday lending company. I did have a default loan back in Oct 2011. I lost my job and closed my bank account because I just could not pay back the loan.

He said I was being charged with check fraud in my city and threw out some court codes and legal jargon. He said the loan was $775 now because of interest and it would go up to $1250 if the case goes to court. He said he obtained my bank account records which I am going to verify with Navy Federal because I don't think he did.

The charges he said were Intent to Defraud A Financial Institution, Check Fraud and Theft of Goods and Services. And that because the amount was over $500 that its a Class 4 Felony.

He then said he could make arrangments with the lead attorney Christopher Jones if I could pay by August 30. So he put me on hold and came back and said the attorney agrred to a settlement of $635 if I set up a payment with them then and there - basically having to give them my bank or credit card information. I told him I didn't feel comfortable with that and that I wanted to speak with my own attorney. This is when he got nasty and told me GOOD LUCK and then I hung up.

I won't lie - the guy scared me at first. But then I did a little research. There are tons of scammer reports on these people. What they are is a debt collection company who is breaking the law. They are trying to scare the crap out of people with threats to get them to pay up.

You do have rights. Look up the law in your state. In looking up the law I see that payday lenders have broken more laws than I have. I was amazed to read the law and realize that the payday lender broke most of them and now that are breaking another law by threatening me.

Report this company! Don't give them your personal information. Speak with an attorney if that makes you feel better. Contact your local courthouse and see if any civil charges have been brought against you. And if you do have a loan - contact the lender directly and see if you can work out a payment plan. That's what I did.

United National Arbitration and Associates also scams from this other toll free number 855-673-5299. When they call you though they do it with a blocked number. And when you ask them for any information they do not offer you much. These people seem like a scam. I received a phone call first from a man stating that he was from the county processors office & I needed an appointment to be served! ??????  I've been served....no one has EVER scheduled an appointment. After I took his number and never called him back, yesterday I got a call from a Catherine telling me that they were filing for a judgement in county court today and I that if I didn't settle before the next day I was going to be charged with fraud, bad checks with intent to defraud, but because my background check came up "clean" I was one of the lucky few to be made this offer. Once I told her that I didn't have my check book with me at work, well the attitude changed & I had to promise her I'd call her as soon as I got home. After I hung up with her, I found this website & PRAISE GOD I did. These people scared the be-jesus out of me!!!!!
After checking out this sight, I went to NY's website and printed down that Payday loans are illegal in NY, whether the contract is entered into via phone, person, mail or internet and to attempt to collect such a debt is also illegal in NY. After printing down these posts & NY's I called back & this Catherine answered the phone & I simply asked for her fax number, she said for what department? I said, for you, is this Catherine....I just talked to you. Which this idiot tells me, well there are several departments, you just don't ask for a fax number. (Much Attitude) So she asked me, well what are you faxing, your attorney's representation? your attorney does that. (Very, very, very snotty) So I said, yes, so may I have it so I may give it to him. Her fax number, which really surprised me, 716-264-4459, is an upstate ny area code, and when I search it, it is a mobile number. I faxed her these post along with NY's laws, along with a note stating that I was forwarding our TAPED conversation to AG Schneiderman in NYC, and if you call my work or home again, I will sue the pants off of you.
I'm guessing, these are all independent people buying delinquent accounts in the local area's. There is HUUUUUUUUGE money in collections. First of all the lender has written this off as a bad debt, then they sell this bad debt at 50%, meaning whatever is collected,  the original lender gets 50% of what was collected. ex: they write off my bad debt of $5000, they get a tax break, then they sell this loan for $2500, (all profit now) and should the agency that bought the loan should collect the total $5000, they are $2500 richer for scaring the @!%* out of someone!!!!!    Ah.....to be an American!

I just spoke with an attorney.  If you are one of people in desperation borrowed from a PDL. Do to a job loss and medical expenses borrowed from Plain Green Loans.  I paid on my loan for 5 months and then fell behind.  You can be charge for not repaying the loan.  It can be a criminal offense because it went through a financial insitution.  You need to try and pay the debt through payment arrangements until you can payoff the amount in full.

I just got the same call today from a man named Charles Bronstein at ext 307 stating the same thing. The blessing is this guy actually called my father in TX on Friday  (I am in NC) stating I had 2 pending charges and that if I did not respond in 48 hours legal action would be taken and my father called me (we have not spoken in years). When I returned the call (which I blocked from my office phone) the guy would not give me any information in writing and claims he wasn't requesting a payment just a statement. Because I work for an attorney I advised that I would not respond unless he sent it to me in writing. He somehow between Friday and today was able to acquire my mobile number and called me on it this morning. I advised that I could not find the Law Office of National Arbitration in any database and would be reporting his information to the State Attorney General's Office. I hope this gets them to stop calling  because they truly had me scared to death. I have seen several posting stating the same so I do believe this is a scam.

Just had a guy named Charles Bronstein who called me stating the exact same thing. I am in NC and they called my fathers home in TX stating there were pending charges against me and I had 48 hours to respond. States he is calling from the Law Office of National Arbitrations. Of course I called back to find out what was going on as I work for an attorney and can not afford legal action and requested the documentation in writing and he would not provide it so I told him to have me served.

Will definitely give the NC Attorney General's Office a call as well. Thanks for this, it helps people like me because they scared the death out of me.

Tiffany,

Good for you. I did the same and let the Attorney Generals office know. I said the same thing and they said "Well our client is based in New York thus making it legal"...Well when I called plain green (Like I said I did have a loan) they are based in MN or MO, i can't remember but it wasn't NY.

These people are getting better sadly. Before they never spoke such good English but this guy does. I have also filed a CMPD report since they were calling me at work and the company I worked for wanted it just to cover my own butt.

Sadly, there are many people who give into these people and that's why they continue. I say, if its legit, fine arrest me and I'll let the courts handle it but till you follow through you aren't getting a damn dime.

And your right...Attorney General scares them....LOL

Lauryn,

Tell Mr. Jones I said hello from NC. He is fraud and I have proof from the NC Attorney Generals office. I received a letter today that says "Based on the information you have provided us this appears to be a scam targeting unsuspecting persons for loans that are either in default, current or for a loan they never had. Sadly they are operating outside of the United States of America and therefore we have no jurisdiction over this crime....."

Do not give that SOB anything. Do as I did and tell them "Well that's fine, just have me arrested and I'll have my lawyer sort this out since you don't want to provide me written proof"..

He is a pure scumbag

I finally spoke with someone from that company who called me again while at work. She identified herself as Victoria from some collection agency. I asked her what the call was concerning and she told me I'm being charged for writing bad checks to Plain Green. As soon as I mentioned the fact that ALL payday loans are illegal in the state of NC she decided to tell me that because I signed the loan over the internet, is in fact legal. Once I mentioned these two magical words "Attorney General" she hung up! I've yet to receive any more calls to either my cell phone or work.

If they continue to harass you, file a complaint with your state Attorney General's office!

People, Plain Green loans is a legit company but this UNA is not. I called this guy back and he said that I was being charged with theft of services under the NC Penal code 505 (which does govern worthless checks but not to what he said). He said that it was a class 1 Felony but could not sight the letter code. The punishment for a class 1 Felony in the State of North Carolina can range from Class 1 Felony - I of 4-6 months community service to B1 which is 240-300 months in prison - http://www.nccourts.org/Courts/CRS/Councils/s ... enguide2012.pdf

When I spoke with this "Mr. Jones" ext 305 he said that I was being sued for 1650 dollars. When I called plain green (I did have a loan with them) they said it was sold to: National Credit Adjustors ? 800-542-1048 ? Original balance fold 1377.67. Funny how the balances changed. Also, when I got his voice mail I was told it was Niagara National. Funny again different names. When I asked him "How can you have fraud charges brought against me if in the State of NC pay day loans are illegal and can not be collected on as per the NC Attorney General his reply was "Because the client is based in NY and not NC". Well that's not how it works. The loan was issued to a NC citizen and therefore governed under NC laws and funny how he mentions he has to file the papers in mecklenburg county (Charlotte NC).

The original lender told me they sold the debt to another company which I called who sold it to another company. I have not received any papers from anyone, there is nothing in or on my credit report and I have even confirmed this with my lawyer who is a prepaid lawyer that I use for services since I have this from my employer.

This guy speaks very good english but this is a SCAM. They try and scare you and they get more and more pushy when they think that you aren't going to pay. He said that in the State of North Carolina its a felony to bounce a check with intent to steal for 200+ dollars. Funny when I look up the North Carolina General Statues, its labeled as $2000 dollars. Funny how he dropped a 0.

DO NOT GIVE THEM ANYTHING. When I said "Can you mail me a payment form to sign and agree to" his reply was "No we have to handle this today to file a cease and desist order with the State courts who has to approve it and then allow us to enter it into non court talks"....Funny because last time I checked the courts are backed up as is and would rather deal with this crap outside of the court room.

DO YOUR RESEARCH. This is FRAUD. THEY ARE A SCAM. Research your state laws. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY. IF you have a loan, yes you should pay it but go through the original lender FIRST. If contacted by a bill collector, as someone said above, GET IT IN WRITING

I got a call from these people about a week and a half ago. The guy (who announced himself as Arthur Clayton) said that they were getting ready to file with my local courts for fraud and a few other things. They guy had me in tears that I was going to go to jail and that I better ask everyone I know for the money. He called me back a few times and I told him I was making some phone calls to try to find someone that can give me the money. He said a couple times that it had to be resolved that day an when I told him I needed to ask someone that would not be home for a few days he said he would call me Monday morning. After talking to someone I know who told me Internet loans are illegal anyway, I didn't answer the phone this week. Yesterday (Saturday) I got a call from a blocked number and a horrible southern accent that said they were the county process servers office (he did not identify the county name though) and I must be home to receive papers on Monday between 2-4 at my home or place of work (i do not have a job, im a full time student)or the authorities would be pressin charges on my and ill go to jail....has anyone been served by national arbitration? What should I do?

I got a message from a coworker that this company had called me at work. That really ticked me off. I seriously don't appreciate them calling me at work giving other people information to forward to me! I know it's a fraud because they've threatened to deliver papers to my home but I've yet to receive anything. Also, they have my old address from 6 years ago! If it is in fact a scam, I seriously doubt they're interested in following the law. It doesn't bother me as much them calling me on my cell phone but how the heck do I stop them from calling my job?
