This person "David" called me saying that he is Palm Beach County and that I am going to be served with papers tomorrow if I do not call this number back, 18553129927.  I thought it was suspicious when they kept calling my home number from a private number 4 times back to back.  This is a scam for no one calls from the county or otherwise to inform you are going to be served and "David" refused to give any additional info.

If you're going to be served a court summons, you don't get a phone call to give you a heads up - the process server just shows up, unannounced.  You also don't get a court date for the next day!

As per the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act), you should not pay any caller who refuses to mail - do not accept email or fax - proof that you owe a debt and proof that they have the legal right to collect said debt.  Refusal to mail this documentation within five days of their initial call is a violation of federal law.  In other words, if they refuse to mail proof, then per federal law, they can go pound sand.  You already state that you never "banked" with these people, so there's your clue.  Your callers are scammers.  If you have a company name and address, please do report them to the FTC, FBI and your state's Attorney General.

We had this problem last year when they called my father in arizona whos recovering from a stroke & told him same thing, he went berzerk trying to get a hold of me all for this? What is wrong with these people? Why arent they shut down?

Received a phone call from Unknown" and since I am job hunting I made the mistake of answering it. I was informed that someone would be coming to my house tomorrow to serve me some papers. When I asked for the name of the company and the nature of the papers---"Unknown could not answer either of those questions. He gave me the number shown above and I told him that if anyone came to my house, they would be shot on sight. He called me back 3 more times--I did not answer these calls and have block this number from calling me.

They contacted my daughter and when I called back, they said that they needed my birthday to verify that this was me.  When I refused this information until they told me what company they represented, I was told that unless I verified my birthday, they couldn't give me this information.
She told me that I would know when I was served tomorrow.  Okay.

I do not answer blocked phone calls, But I do return voice-mails. In this case I had just revived a phone call from a "Robert Smith" (voice-mail) When I returned the call a women had answered, I proceeded to say... I'm returning a phone call from a Robert Smith, she asks.. is this Rose followed by my last name as well as my social security number! I didn't even think about the call being fraudulent! she then placed me on hold, a few minutes later a man by the name of martin picked up and asked can I help you. I said Im returning a Robert Smiths phone call! He said oh OK let me transfer you to his desk. Robert picks up and tells me to hold because he needs to get the "File" he then proceeds to tell me my name and my social security number. at this point I asked whats this about? whom am I being sued by? and why have I not received a letter in the mail informing me of this possible law suit?! He then states T-Mobile is suing me for the amount of $900 my reaction was WHAT!! are you kidding me? so I said can you hold please.. I get on my lap top and I "GOOGLE" comes to find out its a scam! I get back on the phone with this so called Robert and I said.. OK when was this that I had T-mobile? he said back in 2004 I then said I never had a line with that company (which is true never did) he said well your name and social is telling us otherwise.. he then said do you live at such n such place i said NOPE! he then said well T-mobile is suing you for a debt back in 2004 you can pay the $900 or go to court. If you choose to go to court then you will be sued for $4,000 I then said WHAT THE HELL! but during him talking and telling me all of this I had came across this page.. I read the above post from "william" and I sad to this Robert OK what can I do to prevent myself from being sued over a T mobile bill I have never even had?? he said you can pay the 900 in full right now or you can make 2 payments of $450.. I said let me contact T mobile and go from there. He said its no longer in their hands that's why they hire my company to collect debt. I said OK that's fine give me your companies name and address so I can send out a check.. he then in return says "we don't accept checks" I then said look "Robert Smith" I'm far from stupid! I work long and hard for my money! I will NOT let some lazy, I refuse to work and only scam people out of there money, losers like yourself..to give my hard working money too!!! he said mam I'm just doing what the company hired myself n staff to do.. I cut him off and gave him a few more words then hung up! people now a days, Its a shame.. The thing about it was how did he know my social security?

  I got a call from a supposed process server from ARG ( Asset Reliance Group) claiming they were trying to reach my wife regarding something they can not discuss with me.  I asked how they got my number and was informed that I was used as a reference.  I took the information from the lady and passed it on to my wife.  She called them and was told it pertaining to a bill she was going to be sued from T-Mobile for $3000.  I know for a fact my wife never owed that much to any phone company.    Also, they said it was from 10 years ago and when I called the number to asked for their address so I can make sure it was not a scam, all of a sudden their computers were down.  What I am wondering; what does their computers being down have to do with them giving me their address?  They were going to"give me their mailing address" but not their street address. I pulled company name up on line and got an address, then I searched the address and Pizza Hut, a dentist and the UPS store came up.  If this isn't a scam; then why not give their street address?     Furthermore, 10 years ago, I did not have the number I have now and neither did my wife.

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Debra, who exactly did you contact? I would like to know because these people are threatening to serve me papers and I've been doing a little research. So far, I've only seen one positive review of them out of dozens. They are ARG & Associates, a national debt collection agency.
