They called my work and said they were serving me papers.  I called the police department and they said they are scammers!  I had to freeze all my bank accounts so these people could not take money.  They demanded $1206.00 in two hours ot my wages would be garnished.  Low life people need to be stopped!!!

I am one of the people who genuinely didnt owe the accused debt. It was an HSBC card that I had paid off some years ago. It was as simple as faxing over the proof of payment. As it turns out these collections companies also get sold bad debt that was not updated as paid in full. So once they had my proof they sent a letter releasing me from all liability.

same thing happened to me from this number, called on my cell and left
threatening messages. On the message they said they were with the
"clerks office" and I had 24 hours to respond. I called them back at this number which I could not get on land line, was only able to get thru on my
cell - which was the number they called me at. Very strange talked w/2 different people. Had some bogus info on me but also what was frightening
is that they had my social & my address........said it was for a Federal bank
lawsuit......and named Chase, which I do owe money to from about 8 years ago. If any one had similar experience please let me know.

Debt Collector
These are debt collectors.  They call  anyone who knows  you and provide fake case information and say that they will show up to your door in  a few days and so on and that they need your signature.  REALLY?!    Basically, if someone wants to serve you with court papers they will NOT be asking for your signature. This is just harassment and embarrassment at play.

They are Edison Park and Associates (Debt collectors posing as a law office to get you to pay on either debts that have been written off or nonexistent altogether.

You must be an agent for these scumbag trying to scare the readers into paying for invalid debt.  The truth is that we live in a country that has LAWS in place exactly because if we didn't, idiots like this would stop at nothing to make a buck that in 99% of all situations has been written off and basically nonexistent.

I DID READ ALL THE COMMENTS ...However I went thru a long process thought they were fraud turned out after 2 days of trying to get a chase rep on the phone was my bill wasted time and money cuz I lost a settlement offer I was given by EPA  I ended up paying more money at the end but I am trying to purchase a home and nothing I could do until I settled the chase account! so they have legal right to charge you as they please I have done research .... Im sure they wouldnt waste their time calling someone that doesnt owe the debt..some people just have too much debt and forget what they owe...

got exactly the same message, i.e. saying papers were being sent from the "clerk's office" in regards to <my name> and the property at <my address>, including all real and personal property.  Then something about a file number, and a "recommendation" that I call them at their number that has already been listed in this thread.

They are obviously scammers.  It's very easy to get someone's address, especially if they are homeowners...it's public record.

They do not identify themselves as debt collectors ( a violation of the FDCPA ),

The people here who suggest you just pay them.... the PAY YOUR BILLS! cheerleaders.... are most likely shills for this company, or slimeball collecters themselves, trying to get people to pay either non-existent bills or bills that were written off long ago and no longer legally collectible.

DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY INFORMATION WHATSOEVER< AND UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES OFFER TO PAY THEM ANYTHING!

They left me a message saying I had a civil case and a case number. I called back repeatedly asking what this was in reference to and they simply would hang up since I never provided info. As I said I called more than once and then they told me one more call would be harrasment so I said "how about you never call my personal cell phone ever again? Im sure you have a wonderful caller id system bye!"

They went as far to contact a person who has not been apart of my life in 20 years. PLEASE! PLEASE! BEWARE!!!!!!! They may sound for real but they are not.

Debt Collector
What you fail to understand is that there is no PROOF offered that the caller is the legitimate owner of the debt in question (If there even is a debt owed by the recipient of the calls).  The whole reason the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act was created and legislated into law was to protect consumers from extortion and wrongful attempts to collect alleged debts and to prevent harassment.  The vast majority of calls from collection agencies reported here on 800notes all violate one or more aspects of that law and very many are nothing but outright scams and attempted extortion by foreign crime syndicates.  No one, not even a debtor, should be subjected to the tactics employed by these so called collection agencies.

Then knock off the calls and I'll quit bitching.  If I was fool enough to loan you 1000 dollars,  I would definitely have enough to validate the debt.   You owe it,   you pay it.   If I were to lend you 1000 dollars,  unless I can validate the claim,  you don't owe me a damn dime.   I'm just another voice over the phone.
Of course let's be realistic.   I wouldn't be fool enough to lend you 10  dollars much less 1000.  You should have paid your bill before it went into collection if you don't like them contacting your family and your job.
You should also be smart enough to know how to handle that type of thing and put a stop to it.   That is unless your SCAMMER refuses to abide.  If I were their families,  I'd put a stop to that too.  That is unless you,  as the scammer,  continued to violate the FDCPA.  You sound like the kind of person that would rob granny of her social security and little Johnny of his school lunch money if you thought you could get away with it.  Apparently you are the type of person who would get a credit card,  knowing that you can't pay it off since you started your posts stating that they had to run you down through your work and family to collect.
You are a piss-ant.  You would have to validate your blood type and shoe size to collect off of any intelligent person.

i can understand that but im talking about those who owe the debt and are bitching about getting scammed. I don't mean to defend these people but then again its only logical, if ur going to use a credit card or borrow money in general, you better expect to pay it back either that or dont borrow money you cant pay back

Ya know, people have every right to gripe when they aren't the ones who owe the debt. Why don't you spend a few weeks getting several calls a day for a debt you don't owe, despite having told the company that you are NOT that person they are looking for, and see how you feel about it then.

Well very simple, if you don't owe the debt then don't pay it, and if you do then pay it and don't bi*** about getting calls for it. S***, with this kind of logic you should all let me borrow 1000 dollars i wont have to pay them back with your guys' mentality. I'm not exactly fond of the idea of them contacting my family or job like some other people but it's money thats being dealt with. If some one owed me money and i couldn't get ahold of them i'd sure as hell be asking there family members about their whereabouts.idk bout there job tho. either way, im glad i payed my debt im not the kind of person who doesn't pay ppl back, or get a credit card knowing that i can't pay it off,

You said you owed the debt.  Paying a debt that you owe is nothing to brag about.   Its those people here who do not acknowledge owing any debt that questions why they are being called.   Why should these people pay an alleged debt that isn't theirs?   You are implying guilt and since you are just a person who happened to show up here,   "snicker snicker",   you have no knowledge of who does and who does not owe.  I wouldn't pay a dime to anyone over the phone,  especially without some very serious written validation.  The question not being do I or do I not owe the debt,   but do you have the validation and cajones to legally collect the alleged debt in court.  If I don't owe it,  then you are going to have a tough time coming up with what it takes to collect.

same thing happened to me and i paid. don't really mind it since i did owe the debt but they did contact my cousin and my dad which kinda got me off guard, either way you people should learn to pay ur debt so u dont end up in these situations, its only common sense that you pay back money that you owe, if any of u lend someone 600 dollars ur going to be on their a** if they dont pay u back, same goes for this which is why i didnt mind paying the debt.

The moron who called you is a scammer.  You describe several FDCPA violations in your post.  If the nitwit truly had the right to collect the debt, your son would have received mail from them already.
Do NOT give this criminal any information.  If you do talk to them again, demand they give you their mailing address (I doubt they will, but you can try.).  Then certified-mail them a letter demanding validation of the debt.  Sounds like you'd also have good grounds for a lawsuit.

Please see my post above! They actually can't do anything like that and its illegal for them to threaten you! Nor is it legal for them to call and say this to others. Read the laws above and follow the steps given over on the side bar under latest articles:

Take steps to fight back and do report them. If you can get a actual address to send them the letters recommended and get a law suit on them, they could end up owing him more!   Also, all of you should file reports.
