The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

There people keep calling my family members everyday and states on the phone " You have been served" ! Caller ID states unknown # but when they leave a # on answer machine, it comes back, invalid phone # in intelius.com.
Per my attorney , they can not call and say you have been served or lie to say there from the police department and a warrant for your arrest for not paying a bill. Just like my attorney said " everyone is in debt , from attorneys, judges to police officers and etc. Everyone is in debt. The whole  world is in debt. Callers that keep calling and harassing the consumers, I know there in debt to. These people(s) need to be caught and they will get caught.

I'm getting the same harassing phone calls as well. They even call my neighbors across the street that I don't even know and I don't even have my neighbors phone number, lol! How the world did they get my neighbor number and I don't even have it or know it? I even call the court office to see if I have case and they don't have nothing...this is a major scam. What can we do to report these people?

Ryan just called back and told me he is with the police and he is upset I did not call the 800 number back!  WHAT??  First of all he did not give me 25 mins (not that I was going to call anyway) and then demanded to speak to my highest supervisor.  I handed the phone to her and she told him to bring the summons to my work...we will see if anyone shows up.  I did report this to the FTC!  Ridiculous!

Sorry there Mr. Imbecile but there are laws against what these scumbags are doing.  That makes them criminals, not legitimate companies.  This is a scam no other words to describe it.  More than likely they never had any dealings with those companies mentioned except to buy people's information from them to harass them.  The very nature of a "payday loan" is not only criminal from the get go, but should be outlawed and these people should be put behind bars.
So sorry that this information is cutting into your bonus and commission, but go back and crawl under the rock you came from.

They seem like a scam because it's not the smartest way to go about things, but there are many debt collection companies that are forwarded these loans from the people we take the loans from. Its just a scare tactic because they know we wont pay it back otherwise. These are legit companies, with legit loans that were taken out, only trying to get money back which is owed. They purchase these loans from CashYes, Cash Advance, other online payday loan companies and walk -in stores because they couldn't get the money back (that they loaned to us) themselves. So they buy them from them, and try to get the money back. Simple. But because most of these online payday loan companies are illegal,(wish I knew that before I took the loan out!) they cant legally force us to pay them back. So they sell them and these other companies try to collect. I have made a complaint and spoke with a couple police officials and looked into it, and this is what was said to me. I hope this helps to understand it a little bit better.

I got a call from a female named Angela Crowe she said she was coming over to serve a summons for check fraud. She told me to call the plaintiff @ 855-332-2985. When I did call a man answered and stated that I was being charged with fraud and that he would be able to settle it out of court if I just gave him my debit or credit card and paid him $ 811.00. I told him this must be a mistake and that I would never give my credit card # to someone over the phone. He told me" well I'm not going to be able to help you after you get the summons. I then got a call from my son and 2 daughters they also got the call except they were told that I had missed a court hearing and that a warrant was out for my arrest. This is very disturbing and was very frightened untill I did some research and found this site. Now I know it was a scam.

This is really starting to piss me off. This guy Ryan Franklin (who was yelling at the top of his voice when we answered finally) called my husband, mine, and my relatives phones PRIVATE NUMBER 20 times today. Just a hour ago 4 times in a minute. Stated that he had a summons that was faxed over to his office and he was going to serve it to my husbands supervisor (where he doesn't work anymore) or our previous  home address (where we don't reside anymore) within 25 minutes and that my husband only had a short period to take care of the matter. When asked what this was concerning he stated that he didn't know because it was a sealed summons. BUT WAIT.... I thought it was faxed over just that morning? How can it be sealed summons if it was faxed? He also wouldn't give my husband or myself any information about the company he worked for or was calling from and told us to call this 1-855-332-2985 and gave us a case number. So we called the number and it was for RH group or RTH group. We never talked to anymore from that number as we know this is a scam. PLEASE WHAT EVER YOU DO DON'T SEND THEM MONEY OR GIVE ANY OF YOU PERSONAL INFORMATION OUT TO THEM. I don't know if there are any steps we can take to take care of these scam artists but we will have our lawyer call them tomorrow if this s*** doesn't stop.

Very rude person called my work number. He requested to speak me by first name only, and stated there was some type of check fraud and there was a court summons against me. This can't be possible because I don't write checks. THIS IS A TOTAL SCAM...
