I almost fell into the same trap. They sent me the documents and just before completing them did a little research and found out that it is illegal to charge collateral the way they were proposing in both the US and Canada. I did forward all correspondent to the FTC but wont hold my breath that they will be caught. Sorry to those of you who were duped by these low lifes.

Had the same thing happened to me with Allandale Lending in August, 2013. They offered me a loan of $5000. I checked them out online and nothing negative was there about them. They had a website and spoke ENGLISH: not one person I spoke to had an accent!  Agreed to loan, next day they asked for a deposit due to my credit score.  That should have been the "eye-opener" for me....I have excellent credit!  Anyway, each day  they asked for more money and then. all of a sudden, needed  Insurance coverage. The funds were wired to SIMON JOHNSTON in Ontario, Canada who was, supposedly, the lender. I finally had enough with this company and requested a refund..They asked for $625.00 to get the refund immediately. I laughed in their ear! They said I would receive the refund in 30 Days.  Still waiting...Phone rings busy!  I dealt with ROBERT BROWN, who was rude and nasty and hung up the phone on me repeatedly. I asked to speak with another lender and then dealt with RYAN CRAWFORD, who was nicer on the phone but was never in the office and wound up back with Robert...
I hope these two know that Karma is real and they will get their comeuppance sometime in their lifetime!
I hope someone scams them the way they did to all of us.

Wire transfers can be picked up anywhere in the world. That's why the scammers use it. ID? Hardly. It can be picked up as easily as a first name, number of the form, and a bribe to the person behind the counter. NO real business uses Wire transfers, Nobody (except scammers)

To sue them you have to find them.  Most of these scammers are located outside the US in 3rd world countries that don't consider scamming dumb Americans to be a crime and don't cooperate with US law enforcement.  They cannot be sued.

Hey guys and girls.
I am a guy who does not pay to any collection agency. They can suck some lollipop, but I wont pay a cent to them.
Guys and girls, I had been helped out by student loan and by credit cards. I deed pay back, when I could. Never missed one month. For credit cards I even payed back 2-3 days after borrowing money from them.
But everything changed in my life.
For no reason and no explanation 2-3 credit cards where closed. (I didn't owe them anything at that point, repaid everything on time.)
The other cards I steel owed some money, so I repaid and borrowed again and again... but came a time when I couldn't repay for 2-3 months. And guess what, they closed the cards and sold/sent to the collector agencies.
Here is what I did: I called my credit cards, explained my situation, but only reply I got is contact the collectors.
To what I said: "I never borrowed from them and I will never give them anything. If you want money back, I will pay only to those who I borrowed from". I guess they don't need that money. But to collectors as I said... their grand-kids gonna be grandparents sooner than I will pay them a cent.

I am not a bad person. I try to pay if I borrow, but if I don't pay there is a reason... reason that need's to be understood.

To those who like to harass some one on "behalf" of some "agency"... I have to say one thing - You are not safe, there is a lot of info about you... and some one won't be patient as me or as many on this forum.
You think you can harass some one's parents over the phone, but you never think that that person knows your address and every move you make. Be polite or you gonna get some big trouble at your door... not your job door...

Good luck to everyone. We all try to do our best in life.

This is the CRA Collection Agency!  I know because I read this thread ignored them and they tried to garnish my wages!  Trust me you want to call them back.  Also, of course they are going to verify your information....just as if you called any other Government agency.  After I worked with them they were very helpful.

How can they be calling on BEHALF of the CRA when student loans are owed to HRSDC for Canada Student Loans or the Ontario Govt for Ontario Student Loans.  It is obviously an attempt to misrepresent themselves as a federal agency.  If you think using the words "on behalf" somehow protect the agency you are dead wrong.  Guess your "legal dept." is staffed with high school drop-outs making minimum wage like the call centre collectors!  What a job.  Get a life!

Nice try.  You obviously work for this Collections Agency.  Revenue Canada has plenty of ways of collecting money, they don't need to make collection calls and threats.  If you are working, they know it.  They don't even need to go to court to collect money, they can do a wage off-set directly with your employer.  You almost fooled me once, nice try.

Also called from 866-864-5835... THIS is NOT CRA Collections.  I read all these reviews and was leary of calling them and giving them my info, but against my better judgment, I did.  In any case, these losers have all this information from my credit file.  Regardless, they tried the same call 1-800-O-Canada routine and I fell for it.  Didn't call and yes, low & behold, I feel into their trap.  It was only when I started questioning THEM that it became clear that this guy had no idea what he was talking about.  I have been dealing with a specific person at the CRA's REAL collections office in Belleville Ontario.  Of course, this idiot did not that.  I said, why am I talking to Ottawa?  Didn't you read the file notes?  My student loan has been paid off.  You should know this.  I have spoken to Belleville many times, never have I had a collection call.  He said well you missed a payment.  I laughed, I missed three years of payments and no one called, what the hell are you talking about?  I finally paid off my student loan and NOW you are calling.  This is total BS.  He said, well the office you should be dealing with is at 1-800-661-5991.  I asked where that was?  He said Vancouver.  I lost it. Told he was crazy, there is no way my file would have been transferred to Vancouver when I live in Southern Ontario.  These people are total scammers.  I will be filing a complaint with the Ontario Consumer office (http://www.sse.gov.on.ca/mcs/en/Pages/Complaint_Steps_to_File.aspx), writing to my MP and CRA to complain that an organization is illegally misrepresentative themselves as a federal dept.  (and yes, it IS illegal!)

This is NOT a third party collections agency. It IS Revenue Canada Collections Department. They ask for your SIN to verify it is you and only you calling. If they are contacting you it;s because you have ignored letters, and owe the government money. To ignore them is stupidity and will only get you in trouble. Be smart. Call the number back with call blocking and listen to the message you get! How can you people be so stupid to think its NCO, or any any other collections company??? They are the government and have access to every department and area of your life. Ignore them = trouble.

How do they obtain their contact information?

My parents received a call for my son's father who has never lived with them, had a any type of mail sent to them or signed anything that we'd endorsed anything that would make my parents responsible for his debts.

Is that not a privacy issue when they start calling through unrelated or in directly related individuals?

855-340-2786 is a valid phone number for Canada Revenue Agency.  It is for the Accounts Receivable Government Programs division which collects outstanding debts on behalf of Social Development Canada (HRSDC) - generally federal government debts from something other than tax (CPP, EI, Canada Student loans).  Because they work on behalf of HRSDC they don't have direct access to to CRA tax information.  Call the number and find out for yourself.

Two things troubled me with the call supposedly from Revenue Canada: nothing is outstanding or unusual about my file so why must I call within 1wks time? and the 855 number surprised me- so I googled it - thankfully. Same story as above. Have a letter on file stating they don't use 3rd party collectors anymore, made arrangements with the REAL Revenue Canada about 2yrs ago to continue repayment  and have been paying regularly without issue...even got my Tax forms in the mail a few weeks ago.
If Revenue Canada has changed their minds about collections again...they can let me know...until then Mrs. whoever (her name was not audible) can harass someone else. The government really needs to get a grip on this kind of crap...its getting old.

Glad I googled the number before calling back. Message on machine from "Ms. Reid, Canada Revenue Agency, important, call be next Tuesday. What is interesting is I have a letter in my records, from the Federal Government which is at least a year old that states that the government will no longer use third party collection agencies to deal with their student loans. I have an arrangement with the government for monthly payment on my loans for the last 2 years, never missed a payment, made one two weeks ago. So why is my loans suddenly in collections without a written notice sent to me??? Believe it when I get a letter from the people I've been dealing with for the last 2 years, about a change.

People, please listen up. There are many call centres hired by the canadian government. If you listen closely, they probably said "yes, we are calling on behalf of revenue canada". I worked in call centres for years (sadly) and this is legal procedure.
The key word here is, on "behalf", also I did receive official documentation in the mail with this number on it. So it is legitimate, once a loan goes into collections
it is passed onto a private company to do the work. Revenue Canada  or OSAP won't deal with it on their phone lines anymore, this is very sad. The job is to pressure students into paying, and many students unfortunately suffer the consequences of being called by a completely alienated collections centre, instead of receiving the care and attention that is needed
for students in debt who are clearly not criminals.
Call them back, let them know that you don't appreciate being called by a third party. Hopefully complaints will eventually change the situation

I too received a call from a blocked number. A lady named "Linda" claimed to be from "Canada Revenue", and she just wanted to "update my account". I know for a fact that the REAL Canada revenue has all my up to date information. I also found it strange that the number was calling from a "1-855" when it is standard for government branches to call from a "1-800 or 1-866". So before calling this scamster back, I googled the return contact number. And low and behold, many others are receiving the same scam phone calls. NICE TRY YOU CORPORATE SCUM!!!!!!!
