Debt Collector
I received a call from this number looking for a friend of mine.   It was a blocked number so I let it go to voicemail.  This number was the number they left int he voicemail to call them back.  So I did, and the person who answered said they were an answering service, and asked "which company" I was looking for.  I had no idea.  Anyway, they connected me (supposedly) to a company named "WM Active Litigation", and when I explained that I didn't know where my old friend was, he got rude and told me that he was going to continue to call me and the rest of my family (they've been calling like my entire family every day or two) until my friend calls them back...

They did their research, though.  The company had my full name and current address in addition to my phone number.  So they must have done a check on me too...  *shrug*  I'm not sure how comfortable I am with these low lives having my address...

Basically they're going to harass me and my family looking for an old friend and roommate from ages ago.  They clearly don't care that we don't know where he is, they figure if they harass us enough, one of us will track my friend down for them, just to get the calls to stop...

Get your own copy of your credit report. I'll bet the debt doesn't show up on it.

By threatening to sue you and refusing to validate the debt in writing they've (twice) violated federal law. This is a pretty good indication that you're not even dealing with a legitimate agency, just crooks/scammers.

The people on the phone may not even be minimum wage losers - they could be on straight commission. This means that there's huge incentive for them to lie/threaten/intimidate etc. and, if they're spoofing their Caller ID and refusing to tell you who/where they are, almost no incentive to obey the law.

They are simply printing out credit reports and calling on old debt.  This is a scare tactic to get in better contact with you.  I'm assuming they are a 3rd party that bought debt from HSCB for pennies on the dollar, and are using a very low level call center with minimum wage employees, trying to recoup their investment.  These people probably get an extra 5-20 dollars for each person they successfully get to pay.  Employees are using fake names as some sort of inside joke to pass the time at their boring job.

Got a call on my cell from this number reporting that there are documents from the clerks office? Not sure what this is and why they called but sounds suspicious. They also had a reference number.

9 Apr 2014
I also received a call from them with the same voicemail as your. I called back and they told me that I'm being sued. After transferred me to 3 different persons, they told me that I'm being sued by HSBC for the balance of $2500, and I can stop that by paying them the balance in full. When I asked for proof of the debt, the refused to give me anything....this is straight out bs and scam because I don't have any balance with HSBC, and if they want to sue me, they can just go ahead of serve the paper, no need of telling me to call back within 24 hrs to prevent the paperwork to come out.

the same people just called my number; however, they have the wrong number. stated that during their investigation they found I could be relative or family of this person I don't know. I informed them that I looked this number up on line and it s says they are running a scam. the dumb lady stated people can put anything on line. I said send of the debt  or better yet if it was the court would send out papers to their place of employment. furthermore, a clerk's office is not going to come and serve the papers or come to your home. Basically, if you keep getting harassing calls from any bill collectors, whether, its the right or wrong number, you may contact your states attorney general office and report them.  Also you can report them to the fair credit act as well.

It's just ridiculous when I asked for proof of the debt, and the lady told me that "we don't need to show you any proof, I have your credit report in front of me and it shows you owed the debt, if you want to ask you can ask in front of the judge", and I told them ok then serve me the paper and I'll see you in court and hung up... Until now, I still didn't see any paper serve yet lol.

So me and my mother-in-law keep receiving calls from this fake company.  They are calling using a blocked number now.  They are prying for information about addresses for some reason.  They even use fake names!  The rep on the phone told me her name was "Sasha Fierce".... lol... I guess she was hoping I don't know who Beyonce is!  I told her that google says her company is a scam and to stop calling me.  She quickly got off the phone, but not before changing her attitude and tone.
