There is a website everyone can go to file a complaint.   It is https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/   It is with the Trade Federal Commission.   There are laws that restrict Collect Debtors to say they are a law enforcement agency and use threats of any kind.  It is illegal for debt collectors to misrepresent themselves or say they are with law enforcement; it is also illegal for them to use obscene or threatening language.  Please read the following news report http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/11/ftc- ... _n_1418582.html.  Thank you!  I hope it helps.

I just wrote one of our TV news stations about this number and tomorrow I will be calling State CIA or FBI or governmental number to report them.   You should do the same.

Why are all these posts so new - April 2012 only. I got a call - Actuall they called my dad, my mom, my son and my step-sister, When I called them back they said they were from my counties sherrif office when I probed further they said they would end the call and I would be in court the next day. I went to the sherriffs office, they looked at me like I was a dork. They didn't have any "docket" with my name. So, are these new harassers - only opened business in April  - and don't know the laws? My son is now having nightmares, my family is calling scared I'm going to jail because the sherriff is looking for me?

this same number is calling every one that know my brother and saying the same stuff that they are investigating my brother for check fraud... he said he called the number they left and got nothing but somone wispering redletter in to the phone... i then called the number back and got an answering machine and did not leave a message or any thing they called me back this morning knowing my name and address then when i called them out on thins being a scam the mad yelled at me then i told them i was going to the police they screamed at me saying the police were gunna come get my brother and then called me a dumb c**t and slamed the phone down now if this was a ligitament law agency why would they have acted like this and been soo rude... This is a scam no doubt about it and people pleas dont give them any info at all...

These people from this number called my 96 year old aunt looking for me. She went across the street to our family lawyer who called them back..they wouldnt give any information. I called them and they told me im being investigated for check fraud but i dont have a checking account. The person who called name was Ms. Green. I call the next day and ask for her but shes out the office for the day. I use my boyfriends phone, *67 the number and I get no answer. I call again toay 4/18/2012 and shes still not there but when they answer the phone they say hello...not giving a hi this is such company or they name........scam

I got a phone call from a blocked number... He left a message... something about check fraud.  I  do not write checks and have dealt with the man before.  The next 3 times he called I didn't answer... so.. On the 4th time.. i answer and he gives me some bull about papers in court nothing about a check... so when I question him he "transfers" me to his "legal Department"... but it is him.. trying to change his voice.. not very well I might add.   When I continue to drill him as to who he is and what he wants.. he proceeds to yell at me... Not a good plan on his part.. so I continue to question him to which he says he is going to get a uniformed office at my door to pick me up to answer these "charges"... I drill him again to which his response was to slam the phone down... so childish.. I think I mad the little investigator mad... and all are right.. this is a SCAM... OR Creditors trying to trick you... I filed with the Better Business.. You have been notified... :)

Just had a voicemail from a woman and she didn't have my first name right but used both my married and maiden name and said I have to go to court for check fraud....I only use bank checks, don't even have a checking account???? I am going to notify someone right now, it's definately a scam!!

I just got a message from the same phone number 1-855-362-8684...  I don't write but one check and that is for my rent.  and also gave me a pre-trial #54330... Everyone said they are getting messages from a man but I got one from a woman...so beware..  When I called the number back it said "Eastern Division" as well.  I called my landlord all my checks are good with him.  Tomorrow I will call the police!  I tried to look for the name of business.

I too have received numerous calls from this number, stating I have 24 hours to respond, or they will send the documents to court, and will contact my employer.  After receiveing the phone call, I called the number back to find out what company it was. A man answers and says " Eastern Division, Check Fraud".  Like you, I rarely write checks. I know there is no way there is any check fraud on me. I spoke to my local police department which told me they are just trying to scare you to get you to call back so they can act like they are making a deal with you, so you will give up your personal information to them.
DO NOT RESPOND!  ... If they were truely after you, the police would show up at your door.

Yep they called my cell phone with a blocked number but gave me the name of a family member that is being charged with check fraud and gave me a pre-trial# 54368? I called them back after blocking my cell phone, because it is apparent they are calling whoever they want, and i told the man, i have been getting harrassing phone calls by their phone # and he said who am i speaking to, i said i am not telling you that and the harrassing calls must stop or i will press charges of harrassment. what a bunch of jerks.

I got the same exact message, I called the number. They told me they were recording the conversation, and began to tell me I wrote a bad check back in 2009. In a state I didnt live in, and a invesigator jones was filing paper work in court. This is a complete scam and a joke.

Yes, my parents received the same phone call this morning from an "Investigator Jones" threatening my family. The same exact story was fed to my mom. It is a scare tactic they are trying to use to get your bank info. I called and was not able to get the woman's name i spoke to but she threatened me with being prosecuted, would not give me the prosecutor's number, said i will be served tomorrow. I asked for documentation and she sends a bogus letter with no info just what i owe and from who. I researched the company, can't find them anywhere. Can't pay any other way but through a card apparently. Have been trying to call them back to interrogate them and now they do not answer the phone. Keep checking your local case search through the court and if nothing has been filed against you then you have nothing to worry about. This is a scam.

I got a call from someone claiming I had an outstanding payday loan and I can't remember so I gave him all my info. When I got home My brother called me saying that state's Attoney's office is calling him looking for me. I did call the FBI since I did have Identity theft several years ago.

Not sure why someone would call you and let you know they have your social security number and other information then ask you to pay an amount to resolve an old debt unless this debt was in fact owed.  If someone has your social and wants to commit fraud they would just commit the fraud against you they wouldn't call you and ask you to give them money that doesn't even make sense to me.  $300 in interest for something that is in collections seems to be rather low as well.  Maybe you should contact back and get more info as this may end up costing you a whole lot more in the long run if you do not.

I have no idea who this person is or who they represent. All I know is I haven't written a check in over 4 years due to using debit cards, nor have I lived in the state in which he represented for over 5 years. As in the other written complaint, he too said something about carrying it out at work or home & it seemed like he had old information... Has anyone else heard of this company?

They Called my mother's boyfriend and my uncle regarding a debit that my mother had a long time ago. They threatened her with jail time if she did not pay $800 for a $500 debit she had. The man told her he was from a litigation office and that the police will show up at her job that day to arrest her if she did not pay at that moment. Thank God my mom is very cautious about giving her info over the phone and she did not pay them one cent. It's scary because these people have her SSN and old information. I would love to know who they are and if what they are doing is legal.
