That generally means that they have no valid claim.  By law,  upon your request they must validate the debt by mailing you all of their material to support their claim.  Do not accept  Email,  Fax or anything like that.  You need it by granny usps.  They don't have validation or they would gladly send it to you in order to expedite the payment.

THe company refuses to provide a copy of the debt. They state they get an excel spreadsheet of the names and then call. I asked for the Tax ID, BBB identification number and more. They directed me to their website that my 12year old cousin could have made. they stated it was on there. I advised I was on their site and to point out where it was.... They then changed the subject again asking if I was going to pay my debt or not! When asked for proof they change the subject and get rude and say that you are loser in so many words. They advised me to go to wal mart and only load what was owed so I know that they wouldnt take anymore. It has been 12mths since my original contact with this company and to this day I have not received any legal notification of debt. I have reported the company to my Attorney Genreal as well as made complaints on BBB.

Yeah, right.. sure they're legit.  That must be why one poster reported that they threatened to arrest her  (which is illegal).

You must work for these thieves

The company is a legitimate company. People that post comments like this are the main people trying to avoid their responsibilities. I do understand that there companies out there that are operating illegally, but you can find out if the company is legit or not.  Request a copy of verification of debt letter which shows the date you open, the account number, and the name of the lender you owe. The FDCPA requires all debt collection companies show proof of the debt that is owed.

I am in South Florida area. Got a call this am from DTA group saying Camille Riley gave my name as first point of contact and there is a court case against her. I do not know this person.  The callerid of 855-373-0971 came in as private. When I googled it I found posts stating this was a scam.  Now I wonder what danger there is in the fact that they now have confirmed my name and number. Anyone have a similar experience?

NATASHA - IF I WERE YOU I WOULD CLOSE THE CREDIT CARD - THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS.   THEY GO UNDER THE NAME OF DEMETRIUS THOMPSON & ASSOCIATES AND ALSO GO UNDER THE NAME OF BARREN THOMPSON AND ASSOCIATES.  

THEY CALLED ME AND GAVE ME THE SAME CRAP THEY GAVE YOU -  I KEPT PRESSING THEM FOR A NAME AND SHE SAID THEY WERE FROM DTA ASSOCIATES - I GAVE HER MY DEBIT CARD NUMBER AND ADVISED HER WHEN I FOUND OUT THEY WERE LEGIT I WOULD CALL HER BACK AND SHE COULD DRAFT FROM MY ACCOUNT.    I ASKED HER "WHAT DOES DTA ASSOCIATES" STAND FOR?   SHE TOLD ME THEY HAD BEEN BOUGHT OUT BY BARRON THOMPSON & ASSOCIATES - WHEN I LOOKED THEM UP - THERE WERE RED FLAGS ALL OVER THE PLACE FOR THAT NAME - (THEY ALSO SPELL THE NAME 2 DIFFERENT WAYS - ONE IS "BARREN" AND THE OTHER "BARON"  I CALLED THE LADY (?) BACK AND TOLD HER THE NAME WAS NOT A GOOD NAME - THEN SHE TOLD ME "WELL THE DTA ASSOCIATES STANDS FOR DEMETRIUS THOMPSON & ASSOCIATES."    I CHECKED ON THAT NAME AND IT HAD AS MANY RED FLAGS AS THE OTHER NAME SHE GAVE ME -   IF YOU CAN - CLOSE YOUR CREDIT CARD AND OBTAIN ANOTHER ONE - DO NOT GIVE THESE BLOOD SUCKERS ANY MORE OF YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY - AND YES, I HAVE REPORTED THEM TO MY ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE.

this number I got off a voicemail from a guy named John Scott and he said he was from location services an that I owed some company money and that I needed to call back before they process my case and notify the local authorities

I received the same call that if i didnt call with the next two hours or so that paper will b serviced against me. I called the number back and right off the gate they new who i was i didnt even give them my name. The guy said that his client who works for DTA sent my case to there office said that i owed them money but the address he gave me i haven't stayed at that address in four  years and he said the loan was taken out last year.  I gave them a card number saying that i would pay them in payments now i dont have the money to pay them . What do i do!!!!!!! They will keeping calling if i dont.

Called me and said the exact same thing, wouldnt tell me anything unless I gave case number.  I kept questioning them and I began to get angry.  She became VERY rude.  I called right back and got they hung up on me.  I got even more mad and called again and they would not answer.  It is very scary.

The frauds take advantage of people's good will and decency so its best to ignore them, block them and report them.

No - please - thank you for your post.   I am so tired of these scammers.    When they call and either do not give their company name or if they sound like they are reading from a "script" - well, to me - that is a SIGN they are scammers.   Then the next sentence is a "scare tactic" sentence.   It usually goes something like this "We have a complaint against you - if you do not call us within 24 hours we will be forced to have you served with papers and we will contact your place of business" and sometimes they will even say "we will have you arrested"     Both sentences are not true - then they really think they are putting the "icing on the cake" by saying - "When you respond please reference your case number _________.  "   that is another one of their scare tactics - they think they have scared you so badly that you will call them back.   A bunch of low lifers.    And yes, our tv station has shown people who have given money to them - it makes me furious.   Our tv stations advise you NOT to respond to their calls - that a legitimate company would not contact you or threaten you as they have done.   And the tv stations have even had our local law enforcement on their letting the public know that no one "calls you before hand if they are going to arrest you"    Okay - I guess I will close my "sermon" now -  thanks again for your support.

Very good!!  I'm glad to see you filed a complaint and I hope everyone else who gets these calls does the same.  I just read on the News yesterday where an elderly couple got scammed out of  their entire life savings (close to 500M)  by low life scammers.  After saving their entire life,  they now have social security to live on.
It is hard for most decent people to imagine someone doing this,  but it is a wake up call that we all need to get involved and get the word out to the public of what is happening to our uninformed friends and neighbors.

Rec'd a call from this phone number by a female who said her name was Marsha Bradsher     Stated that they had complaints against me and if I did not contact them they would serve me with papers -
said her compnay name was DTA - not sure who that is - but - I think she is in "cahoots" with phone number 888-394-217 -  both of them used the same "jargon" and the same "file number".    Has anyone else rec'd a message from this number?    I feel very confident that it is a scam -  I don't know what they want - but I did file a complaint with the Attorney General of my state and apparently this number is "flagged" because of fradulent/scammer activity.
