Yes he did sound convincing, and I fell for it.  Only because our boss does personal favors like that for a lot of his family friends.  This guy knew my boss' name, I didn't think twice about it.  Damn shame that people like this exist.

I received a call from Chuck Goodman indicating that he is an old friend of someone in our Company, Chuck said that our employee had approved the purchase of some packing tape (5 cases with 33 pieces each @ 2.99ea) and that Nicky Larsen was going to call me to confirm this. I asked Chuck at least couple of times about this order, as we do not handle our purchases over the phone. I checked with our employee and he indicated that he doesn't know a Chuck Goodman and that this is a SCAM!!!

Nicky Larsen. Pleas do not bother calling. We do not need any tape and I will ask you to please remove our Company name and telephone number from your data base. I will be reporting this issue with the Business Bureau.

Just got the phone call from Nikki. Opened the conversation with "My CEO has never been in contact with Dr Goodman about any supplies and if packages are sent they will be refused and fraud complaints will be opened against the sender." Instant hang up. :)

Just got a call today from good ol' Chuck to tell me about the woes of his brother who he's representing.  Turns out the poor fellow had a nasty divorce and is liquidating his company!  Fortunately for me he found 4 cases of packaging tape that I could use in my shipping department.  He and my CEO had talked and he forwarded Dr Goodman to the shipping manager, me, to strike out a deal.  Well, I expressed interest in the offer and I'm anxiously waiting to hear back from Nikki so I can get in on this fantastic deal. /sarcasm Looks like I'll keep and eye out for any crazy packages to refuse. Nice try folks, better luck next time though.

Got the same deal, same calls. Went right into trying to verify our shipping address. I asked what it would costs and it was almost $600. for 4 cases of tape and 2 dispensers...free of charge...

Just trying to figure out their address so I can have it shipped from them, to them...and see if the can catch on. :-)

Definitely a scamola!!

Exactly the same scenario as above - Mr. Goodman called first, was a close personal friend of the owner, his brother was going through a nasty divorce, liquidating the company, and wanting to ship us 2-inch packing tape.  He never mentioned that we would be "buying" said packing tape.  Nikki called moments later, confirmed our address and gave me a price on the tape ($2.99 a roll).  That was my final indication that this was all a scam, and soon after, my store owner confirmed it.  We'll be refusing that shipment...

I received a phone call from Dr. Goodman, as well, stating that his brother has to close his business and that the family is pitching in to help him out.  He said he spoke with the General Manager of our company and that he was such a great guy.  He said that our GM suggested that he call me to work something out.  He gave me the name of Nicki Larsen and her phone # and said she would be calling me shortly.  And that she did!  I just hung up with her.  Told her I would get back with her and then I decided to google her phone #.  Low and behold, as I suspected!!!

Just received a call from the Good Dr. Goodman!  Said his brother is going through a terrible divorce and having to liquidate his company.  The only thing left was strapping tape and that my boss and he were good friends.  That they are at the end of the liquidation and have four cases left and my boss committed to taking them.  WE are not taking them.  He too had me recieve a return phone call from a Nicki Lawson!  Probably husband and wife sitting in their kitchen laughing their bootays off at the scam.  Unreal!

Our shipping manager recieved a call from this company stating that our GM had authorized the purchase of 5 cases of tape.

She told the caller that she did not authorize the purchase.

We recieved 5 cases of tape a couple weeks later.  We refused the shipment.

I have been getting these calls annually going back 8-10 years now.  I actually have received two within this past year from the honorable Dr. Goodman.  As mentioned in the accounts above, he (or his alter ego) opens with how the CEO of your company and him were talking over some beers or perhaps on the golf course and the popular topic of packaging tape came up.   It just so happens that Dr. Goodman personally knows someone who is liquidating his company.  This poor fellow has just lost his wife and he needs the money.   For us, he just had 8 cases left and the CEO told him to tell me that we should buy them. Nicki Larson would be calling.  She called, as promised, and even offered to fax over an order form. Big surprise, it never came.

How do we stop these scams?

I JUST GOT THE SAME CALL, I AM GLAD I CHECK THE 855 NUMBER, IT'S A SCAM. THE GUY SOUND SO CONVINCING, LIKE IF HE KNOWS THE OWNER OF THE COMPANY.

Same line of nonsense that Jo reported. Goodman indicates he just completed a call with the president who is his best buddy and received the OK to speak to me and order whatever I felt I needed. Specifically mentioned (and pushed) was the packaging tape. A follow-up with the president indicates he knows no one by this name. And, contrary to David's comments that this is a reputable company - then why lie to me from the start.

I got a call from Nicky Larsen, regarding an order I placed with a Chuck Goodmen.  She reviewed the order with me, and I received the product (shipping tape and dispensers) within a few days.  Everything I received was exactly as described by Ms. Larsen.  The tape quality is very good.  The price was right (the invoice was for less than $500).  And, the included dispensers were free of charge.  I didn't suffer any of the problems of the previous letter writer.  Perhaps, she is confusing them with a less reputable company.  I would buy from them again

a so called Dr. Chuck Goodman calls and says he is a friend of the company owner, tries to hook you into buying a liquidation of items. ie: packaging/lighting etc.

i'm sure the names are bogus... beware... they will invoice you thousands of dollars on merchandise you did NOT order.
