I assumed they were looking for someone else. either way feel it's a scam.

If you pull a credit report after three months after the first call you will see accb on your credit report.  If you left a forwarding address with the apartmentsbyou would habe gotten aletter from them with the account number and client.  I had to drive to their office to make a payment that was on my credit. Got apaid in full letter. Its a huge building that says associated credit and collection bureau on the outside. Its on eyster in rockledge florida

Debt Collector
Same sceanrio, but a lady named PAT MILLS,  called looking for my brother. Okay i see online your a debt collector, who are you collecting for? she replied "you see it online, whats your question".. That pissed me off immediately. (you called me, i get to ask the questions since you are wasting my time- personally).

So i say, what credior, how much, and how did you relate me and my number with my brother. She replied, your brother put you on his application. Oh okay so i ask.. is he applying for something or are you collecting something..she replies, its personal i cannot disclose that to you.. (me again, i think you called me- i get to ask the questions).

My last reply is this ms mills.. I don't know you, you called me, my brother is jobless and basically on the verge of homeless. therefore there is no way to call him. Instead of hiding from a surname of PAT MILLS and being rude and a disrespectful customer service representative, you will get more rewards with honey than vinegar.

Shame on your company for calling family members and being rude. Trying going back to school and learn how to be polite. Your company gets what it derserves on this site and all other reporting sites.

Our entire economy is struggling with homelessnes, jobless and at least you have one, even ifs it bothering people. How about finding ways to help our people. Question? got any job opeinings. My brother can answer the phones for you. :)

While complaining about problem calls seems to be the majority of postings on this site, this site is intended for more; to inform people about the numbers they are searching and allow people to inform others about phone calls they have received.

The purpose of this site is listed in a couple places on the site.  The most obvious is right there at the top of the home page and the purpose is also stated on the ?About 800Notes.com? page (http://800notes.com/nb/about.aspx) linked to, down at the bottom of every page, in the middle of the copyright notice.

That's right - people will believe what they want.  They'll believe they owe a bill if this "company" MAILS them a debt validation letter showing that they owe a bill and that the caller has the legal right to collect said debt.   Per the FDCPA, no one should pay unless they have proof mailed to them that they owe the caller.  YOU can take a "chance" on perhaps paying the correct creditor.  As for the rest of us, we'll pay when the company complies with the FDCPA.

BTW, I don't owe anyone money.  I just hate to see people scammed out of money, and "companies" who violate federal consumer protection laws left and right.

How did you find this website?  I found it when I googled a phone number that was harassing me.  I suspect thats how most people find this place - by googling an phone number that has been annoying them.  This site attracts people with a gripe about a phone number.

Did you find this site by googling an annoying phone number?  Or did the group that calls from this number pay you to post nice things about them here.

BTW - No one here is suggesting that anyone should not pay a real debt.  But there are a lot of scammers running around trying to get people to pay debt they don't owe.  No one should ever pay a debt they do not owe.

Obviously I touched a nerve because I made a positive statement and not a negative one.  It's a shame that you can't write a positive experience on a site like this.   I'm not a person that has  bills that are unpaid so I can easily say..."I only had this one bill that I was avoiding, so my decision was an easy one to call them back". Plus I knew I had this bill. So when they told my reference that ACCB was calling and I looked up ACCB and saw they could possibly be calling on that bill, I took that chance!!  Believe what you want to believe.

Agreeing with people will not make your story of how "positive" this "legitimate" company behaves any more believable.

"I only had this one bill that I was avoiding so my decision was an easy one to call them back."
This statement screams to me "advertisement" - like every "call now!" "it's easy!" "we'll help!" advert for scam-companies I've ever seen.

I totally agree with your statement too.   My parents had it done to them...that is why I read up on everything before I paid them and I made sure that I have everything in writing and have a file on this one matter that I will never throw out as my fear is this coming up again.  I only had this one bill that I was avoiding so my decision was an easy one to call them back.

I totally agree with all this you wrote.  All I was replying to was how they left messages on your voice mail that it was vague.  Hence the reason why I too was hesitant to call this number back. During my experience, I too read up on the FDCPA laws as to try to catch them doing something illegal.  I actually told some friends how to get some of their collection calls to stop by reading up and telling them what to look out for.

What jerkwater really means is that when dealing with this dirtball debt collection agency that they will harass, abuse, and prey on your elderly, vulnerable, and uninformed relatives. Yes, that's against rules, regulations, and laws under all state and federal consumer protection agencies. Did I mention the word, cowards?

Not quite.  There are many so-called collection agencies who will attempt to collect on bills that have already been paid, sometime the company itself has collected the bill and they try to collect it again.  It's companies like this that give legitimate companies a very bad name.

My apologies, I guess you didn't understand the /sarcasm at the end of that statement.

My point was that this IS the internet - and it's up to you to decide what is legit or not. Not a search engine.

Common sense should tell you (it tells me anyway) that if 50 people tell me one story, and there's 1 person standing there jumping up and down and waving their arms to try and convince the mass of other people that "It really IS good! I swear!" - I'm not buying.

But kudos to you for paying them (if your story is true, which I doubt).

That's true.  I was only getting calls from 1 number so I just took the chance to call it.  Again, I just knew I had this one bill I was avoiding.  Hey...I'm just happy I called back and hope that I don't get any other calls for other bills.

Like this website is the first one that pops up ....guess the comments on here have to be legit!!  All I was doing was trying to say something from a positive experience I had by calling this number.  Guess websites like this only want lies to be posted and people don't want to hear anything that might be good.    By the way....the cookie was yummy.

"pay your bills and calls like this will stop"

In fact, the opposite is true: If you pay an unidentified person who calls you up and says you owe money without providing proof in writing calls like this will INCREASE. As every two-bit scammer in the world comes flocking to you to get a piece of the action from an easy mark.

A Collection Agent May Not?

Here are the top 11 actions prohibited by the The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act:

Misrepresent Him or Herself

A debt collector may not misrepresent himself as an attorney or law enforcement officer.

Use the Telephone to Annoy or Harass

A collection agent may not cause a telephone to ring or engage any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with an intent to annoy, abuse, or harass anyone at the called number.

Threaten Arrest or Lawsuit

A collection agent may not threaten a consumer with arrest. It may not threaten legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated. In other words, a the threat of a lawsuit may be an empty one.

Use Abusive or Threatening Language

A debt collector may no use abusive or profane language in the course of communication related to the debt.

Publish a Bad Debt List

Publishing the consumer?s name or address on a "bad debt" list is prohibited.

Contact By Embarrassing Media

A debt collector may not communicate with a consumer by post card. It may not use any language or symbol, other than the debt collector?s address, on any envelope when communicating with a consumer by use of the mails or by telegram. A debt collector may use its business name if such name does not indicate it is in the debt collection business.

Contact a Consumer at Work

A collection agent may not communicate with consumers at their place of employment after being told this is unacceptable or prohibited by the employer.

Seek Unjustifiable Amounts

A debt collector may not demand any amounts not permitted under an applicable contract or as provided under law.

Contact a Consumer Represented by an Attorney

A collection agent may not contact a consumer after it learns the consumer is represented by a lawyer.

Communicate With a Consumer After Receiving a Validation Request

If a consumer sends a written §1692g response within 30 days, the collection agent may not communicate with the consumer until it mails the consumer the requested verification of original creditor's name and address.

Communicate With Third Parties

A debt collector may not reveal or discuss the nature of a consumer?s debts with third parties other than the consumer?s spouse or attorney. A collection agent may contact neighbors or co-workers only to obtain location information. It may contact a third party again if it has reason to believe the information the party provided previously is false.

Bills.com FDCPA FAQ

Below are questions Bills.com readers ask frequently:

Can a Collection Agent Call My Cell Phone?

Yes. However, if you tell the debt collector it may not use that number because it is a cell phone, it may not contact you again at that number.

I Keep Receiving Dozens of Calls From Collection Agents. Is That Legal?

No. Unscrupulous collection agents will use "block parties" or "office parties" where they contact a consumer, multiple neighbors, or co-workers telling them they need to reach the consumer on an urgent matter. This is not permitted under the FDCPA.

A Collector Says I Will Be Arrested if I Do Not Pay

This was a true statement before the US Civil War, but has not been true since. People may be arrested if an aggressive judge files a bench warrant for a person who does not appear at a hearing relating to a lawsuit regarding a debt. However, in that case, the offense is the failure to respond to a court order, and not the existence of the debt. As stated above, it is illegal under the FDCPA to threaten a consumer with arrest if the consumer does not pay the debt.

The problem is that websites like this are not always true. Anyone can write anything about anyone or anything.  I could care less if you don't like what I'm writing on here.  Bottom line is this....there is no problem with this number...and it is not harassment if you have a bill to pay.  The reason for my title is exactly what it states...pay your bills and calls like this will stop....DUH!!
