there liars, and a huge scam! i looked up MCGARLAND and associates and found nothing, ill advise anyone not to pay them scum bags! they threatened to take me to court if i dont pay them back, granted if you have loans they give chances to pay them back, even the IRS knows that. smart people would know that if you ever go to court they never call first and say "hey see you in court in 10 days" y cant this be handled?! they are calling from 704 area codes and ive never been in North Carolina!

Correct ... It's wrong for collectors to interfere with your right to seek debt validation. Holding proof you owe for hostage is entirely backwards, defeating the whole point of seeking it. That alone would seed a FDCPA lawsuit but the threats of "prosecution", implying treating a civil matter like a criminal case, practically put that $1K award in your pocket.

They called my boyfriend today for a debt he paid years ago and threatening prosecution and saying the only way it could be settled was by paying by the end of the day by phone. When he asked for some type of legal verification by mail, they said they could provide it only if he paid. Ridiculous! No legitimate debt collector would state that the only way to pay is by giving up all your payment info over the phone right then and there OR ELSE. Since they had him call them back I'm going to go ahead and sign that number up for every telemarketing and junk selling site I can find so they can just annoy each other.

I answered, there was no sound, no person, no recording... just silence for about 41 seconds then hung up.

This number keeps calling my house, my parents, my sister and my ex husband. How do they get their info. When they call me I just hang up. How do I get them to stop. I do not want to speak with them so I do not give them any added info....it's becoming annoying
Nicole W. 2014-05-22 14:07:51 Unknown
They've called me twice, saying that I owe $1,000 or else they'll send out a warrant for my arrest. Well... I don't recall owing anyone that much money. Especially in North Carolina when I reside in Minnesota. I immediately knew they're scam artists and their so called scare tactics don't frighten me.
Bolinda 2014-05-16 21:29:07 Unknown
1st of all, learn to spell, it's prosecuted not "procesuted" and don't type angry because everything you say comes out wrong and it makes you seem like an uneducated idiot. 2nd, if you are having trouble with constant calls, that is something you need to handle yourself by explaining the whole situation and getting off their calling list and if the calls continue then that's unlawful harassment and you can explain to them that if the calls don't stop you will have charges brought against them.
If you have an issue with someone or with a company, instead of going straight to your computer and whining about it to complete strangers, you should just take care of it yourself like the adult you claim to be.
BJ 2014-05-11 22:57:32 Debt Collector
It's quite obvious all of the previous postings on May 1 are from someone at that company. Please do not be taken in by that scam. They are a debt collection scam. They do not leave a name and they say they are looking for a defendant. Trust me, if you were a defendant of some court case, you would know. Unless you move every week, a decent server would have been able to deliver your court papers to you. Lots of people are getting calls from this number because these people are debt collection scammers. What they are doing is illegal and I hope you do not act scared and pay money to them because they are con artists.

These calls and shilling seem very similar to a current scam making the rounds. Maybe a new group, maybe not, but in any case For at least the last year, an illegal group of debt collectors have been terrorizing consumers, their family, friends, and employees threatening to arrest the individual of an unpaid loan or other debt (their generally don't even owe). Be aware debt is a civil matter, not a criminal matter, and you can't be arrested. They threaten a warrant if the victim does not pay a sum of money by the credit card over the phone.
Some of the people they are calling do not owe a debt. Others they are calling have already settled their debt with the organization who owns the accounts. Even if you do owe a debt, do not be deceived by the actions of this group. Many of the accounts they are attempting to collect they do not own. In other words, if you pay these people, that is not going to clear your debt with its rightful owner.
Although when pressed the callers give the victim an address in Columbia South Carolina (usually a vacant lot) or Atlanta GA (often a parking lot near the bus station). They are actually out of the Charlotte North Carolina area. The scammers are using the following business names (and there are many others, and they seem to create new ones daily). They will normally answer the call back number as ?Investigations?
Reynolds, Hill, and Associates
Berkley and Associates
Kaufmann and Associates
Sanderson Blaine & Associates
Blaine and Associates
McKenzie Reid Associates
Kennedy, Kline, & Associates
Nationwide Asset and Recovery
Piedmont Investigations and Procurement
Raffino, Garrison, & McCoy
Greenman, Schwartz & Associates
McCoy Law Group
Salem Associates
Reynolds and Associates
Here is a set of links to a variety of threads on this forum that document this group and its behavior. They include the experiences of victims as well as a former employee or two that quit within a week of finding out exactly what was going on. They also include responses from consumer advocates and people who are really criminal justice professionals advising victims of what to do

Sorry if you guys misunderstood me but i wasnt saying charges against me they called trying to locate my sister and I no longer speak with her because of what she did to me. She stole from me!
Pissed 2014-05-01 21:14:17 Unknown
I am so sick of these people!!! If a company truly has a legitimate complaint, they would send me something in writing. If there were a real legal/criminal issue, they would be able to find me. I have worked in the same place for 5 years. Prior to that, I worked for the local police department for 3 years. I've been at the same address for over 10 years. This is a croc of bull and I wish the FTC would crack down on this mess.
Arnissa Fields 2014-05-01 21:12:00 Unknown
I was about to go mad from the calls to me and my family, until one day almost at my breaking point I returned the calls. I was blown away by the level of RESPECT that I was shown. I was able to get my issue resolved in a kind, yet firm and professional manor.
notthatstupid 2014-05-01 21:11:14 Unknown
Really? There are people who get this message and actually believe this is legit??? I've had probably 10 different toll-free phone numbers with basically the same message: I owe money and they are about to issue a warrant for me and will come to my job to arrest me. Today they at least called for "the defendant"
Funny thing is, I owe NOBODY any money AND I'm 3 years into a Ch. 13 bankruptcy. Furthermore, I worked in the justice field for years, worked for the police department, so I know that you can't arrest me for owing you money unless I wrote you a bouncing check or I committed some sort of fraud. Smh I also know that if you really knew where I worked, you would also where to send documents regarding this alleged court case. I am so annoyed with these people!
Gunnar 2014-05-01 20:21:05 Unknown
Yep, "things that make you go Hmmm?"! I like the domestic frauds better though. They're a bit more of a challenge. Well, perhaps not. For some reason they seem to be avoiding me. For the life of me, I can't imagine why......
Godspeed,
Gunnar

Gallus 2014-05-01 20:10:43 Unknown
Well, obviously it's *not* a legitimate company. And they wonder how we regulars can spot them a mile away!
MJG 2014-05-01 20:07:15 Unknown
2 - count 'em - 2 shills in one.
Makes you wonder what company they are shilling about.
Gallus 2014-05-01 20:04:44 Unknown
Wrong - debt is civil, not criminal. Defaulting on loans is not a criminal offence. If your sister has committed identity theft, then you should make a police report detailing this. Victims of ID theft are NOT responsible for the fraudulent debts racked up in their name!
Gallus 2014-05-01 20:02:28 Unknown
The only thing you are on track for is failing miserably as a shill. Epic fail!
