I also got the promotional epad offer w the $100 gift card mail on 12/10/12. So glad the Internet can help me find other people who experienced the same thing!  I was about 10% intrigued, but now am definitely tossing the whole thing in the trash.

I recieved one of these, but it was clearly marked from a direct buy near me. it was a promotional and i would have to sit through a 90 minute presentation followed by the usual hard sell. worth $95, not worth 90minutes of my time and the anxiety of dealing with a pushy saleperson.

Went to the presentation, which lasted about 90 minutes (we did not sign up).  I did not get a Tablet... instead i got a letter saying that due to unforeseen circumstances they were out of Tablets and that i would get a tablet at another date when they came in.

Right now it seems that Direct Buy is making people jump through hoops to get their Tablet, even if they did attend the presentation.  I'm not sure if we will ever get a Tablet.  When u call, no one picks up the phone... and no one will call u back about your prize.  It sure seems fishy so far.... I would stay away from this company.  Will post back if we ever get our prize.

This thread makes me wonder if people even read their mail. I received the "Final Notice" version of this. Mine doesn't mention MicroSoft or Windows anywhere. However it does very clearly state: "Sponsored by DirectBuy of Central Texas" and gives an Austin address. Then it states: "...This promotion is not sponsored by or affiliated with Android... Must present voucher for gift. 90 minue visitation required..."

Anyone in Central Texas that has turned on their TV set in the last 5 years has seen the DirectBuy infomercials and knows they are a legit business. While I have no need for or desire for their services, I could find 90 minutes to say no to salesperson for a $249 Tablet and a $100 gift card.

This is not a scam.  It is very real.  Here's the catch; this is a promotion from Direct Buy.  They are a home improvement supply company and they want you to sit in a 1.5 hr presentation on home building and maintenance.  if you do this, you will get the EPad.  This has nothing to do with Microsoft whatsoever.  They are only trying to get you to buy membership into their wholesale club.

Received a "Final Notice"  w/ no return address. Inside it said Congratulations Our Promotional department shows that you have been awarded a New 7" Tablet complete with Android O/S, Camera and Wifi.

All I had to do is call the 855-463-4973..   The above responses were very helpful and fit what I assumed this was.

Do you even realize what MLM is? I'm not endorsing or opposing Direct Buy, but they are definitely NOT an example of multi-level marketing.....

I received a letter as well and while I'm sure it's a scam, you obviously didn't read the letter. The E-Pad has the "new Android" software, or you get a new Laptop/Netbook with "new Microsoft" software. So there's nothing about Microsoft offering an Android powered device.

The letter also says that if you call within 72 hours they will throw in $100 Restaurant dining card.

Got the same letter 11/21/2011. Thanks for all the info. I new when I opened it. If it sounds to good to be true it always is a scam.

I find this incredibly amusing. Microsoft *hates* Android - it's a Linux derivative. No way in Hell that Microsoft would offer an Android powered device. It would be like Apple offering a Windows powered device.

DirectBuy is a scam. It's one of these "buy a membership and you'll save a ton of money on home goods" places. It's a multilevel marketing (MLM) scam/franchise.

I could go on and on.

The fact that it comes with a return address that looks like it comes from Microsoft when it obviously does not is a huge red flag.

DirectBuy of Central Texas
9160 Research Blvd # D, Austin, TX 78758
(512) 835-7800

Not sure about the details yet but the place is real.
It's about going there for a 1.5 hour presentation to claim the prize.
They sell home appliances and other such things for new homes.
I see no indication that it is a scam - It's a promotion -

Got a letter (regular mail) from "Microsoft" claiming that my husband had been awarded a New EPad or new Laptop/Notebook.  To claim offer dial this number 855-463-4973.  etc.  It is a scam.   Microsoft does not do this kind of promotions.
