I know yours is an old post, but it WAS interesting reading.  Some folks wouldn't know honor, dignity, ethics, much less honesty if it whopped 'em up the head with a 2x4.  She's obviously one of them.

Its a scam.

1. a debt collector CANNOT leave a message stating they're arresting you, you're being sued, etc. it's against the fair debt collection practices act.

2. they leave a scripted message with the same threat several times per month -- again a fake.

3. the people on here posting they resolved their debts -- first of all, thanking a debt collection agency? yeah right. fakes!

4. payday loans are not considered BAD CHECK FRAUD. Read the federal ruling on that.

5. contact your state's department of financial institutions. guarantee that a) this company isn't legally allowed to collect in your state and b) the company they're collecting for (the payday lender) wasn't authorized to lend in your state; thus, why they're using junk debt collectors and c) five years is PAST the statute of limitations for collections for payday loans.

No credible collection agency or "law firm", will call people up, threatening to sue or to put them in jail for not paying a debt, or tell other lies in order to get people to pay.  Why should you reward a scam artist and a law breaker whether the debt is legit or not...?  One of the reasons this country is going down hill is because greedy people such as these that run our financial institutions and so forth, are allowed to run amok.  Some people will do anything to get a piece of change in their pocket and that's a low down dirty shame.  The founding fathers did not envision a nation of people whose leaders were living off the crumbs of monied special interest that outsource jobs to other countries and allow for the financial exploitation of the American consumer by these attornies, bankers...and debt collectors.  Even Pres. Andrew Jackson knew that America could not afford to be enslaved to monied interest..because more than likely, he foresaw the nightmare that is happening in America today.  Our national leaders that should be looking out for the interest of the people, care more about millionaires and corporations than they do about the rights of American citizens.  We are not supposed to be exploited this way.  The framers never wanted Americans to be subjegated either by a monarchy, oligarchy, or by any sort of wealthy monopoly.  The fact that these people are able to use certain unorthodox and possibly illegal methods to get personal info about people should disturb us.  That kind of behaviour shouldn't be rewarded.  Does'nt it strike people as odd that after a company for instance charges off a debt, (co. closes acct) that these third party debt collectors that get the accounts, act as if you OWE them, when you didn't sign a contract with them!  Debts that are over ten yrs. old...where do they get off collecting for these?!  There should be some sort hearings done on these practices (House Subcommittee hearings) which appear to be against the law.  The fair debt collections and practices act is violated everyday, and these low lifes know, that most people do not know what they're rights are, that's why they call and try to scare the crap out of you so that you will pay them money that you don't owe to them.  The first thing you should do when you are contacted by these people is not to panic.  That's what they want you to do.  Go to the yellow pages or go online, and look up a Consumer debt attorney and call them and talk to them. They will tell you what to do, and will help you to resolve the issue.  In most cases also, if the debt collector has or is breaking the law...they will also help you to file a lawsuit against them as well.  Don't just take abuse from these types of debt collectors.  Just because they may have helped some people in the past...or may have a good rep with a few people doensn't mean a thing!  Mann Bracken was a huge debt collection outfit that had offices in different states, but they pulled some of the same crap that these people did, and from what I last heard, they were shut down.  They had been investigated by several state attorney general offices in different states for breaking the law when it came to the methods they used for collecting debt.  Discover card had also used their services as well.  Don't pay these people a dime, but get hold of a good consumer debt attorney. I also recieved a call from edison escott & associates claiming to be an attorneys office.But after some searches found out they are the real deal.I wrote 3 bad checks which where for 3450.32.It was confirmed from my bank.and was said that it was sent to collections.Then I knew I had a problem I then gave the office a call back.And resolved it through Mr.Orielly he was a very respectable man. I'm grateful for there service to me.My family is grateful as well my credit report showed extinguished. So the proof was in the pudding.Thank you Edison Escott & Associates for every Thing.

I was called on Monday after noon around 3p.m. About a payday loan I took out 5years ago. It caught up and I was asked to pay for the balance I owed. I then did a search for the company and it was confirmed that the company is real.I then talked to a Mr.O'Reilly he then told me the information .It then checked out to be me.They had my social and every one I know and also hate in my family contact info.But I then paid my balance of 2765.50 via credit card I paid it full and my account showed paid off. So if we got involved in this bogus scam, how do we go about reversing it? I got the same call and was threatened and scared out of my mind, that we gave them 3500 dollars. I recieved a call from Victoria from Edison Escott and Associates on Monday morning. She said that I was being charged with check fraud from a payday loan back in 2007 that I owed to Advance America. She told me if I didn't pay them back $1,500 by Friday I was going to be taken to jail for check fraud. I started to freak out of course I am at work and a single mother of two young kids. I called her back twice and asked her to e-mail me the documents so I could view them, they never came. I started to look this company up online and about 90% of the people say its a FRAUD and do not give them any $. What should I do? By the way today is Friday and supposidly my due date to pay them

Baloney.  THIS IS NOT A LAW FIRM, SO STOP PRETENDING IT IS STEPHANIE.   This is a woman who has been banned from debt collection in Buffalo due to a felony charge.   If she tells you anything about being arrested, she is again violating the law.   You cannot be arrested for failure to pay a debt, this is a civil matter.  Report her at once to the Georgia Attorney General.  Have her tell you the lawyers name there-she wont be able to give you an actual lawyers name, because they don't have any.   Again, REPORT THIS TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL IN EITHER GEORGIA OR NEW YORK.

So how did you get your money back? I am going thru the same thing right now. Only they charged my grandmom 3500 dollars. We now know it is a scam, but how do we go about getting the money back. It was already paid by the credit card company.

My situation was very similiar but if these people are SOO credible why don't they  have a website and why am I unable to find this woman under my states bar association. All lawyers are listed there. And if she's not able to practice in my state she sure can't call me about any legal matters. I haven't received a call back after I requested a payment plan with the stipulation that they provide me with payments I have made, my balance, and my fees to equal the amount they state I owe which is almost three times the original amount. They are calling my ex-inlaws and my ex husband's current wife harrassing her saying she is me and I have yet to receive  any legal documentation of the debt. Under the FTC these are criminal acts on their part as debt collectors. I'm sorry but unethical is right and those of you on here stating the good about this company probably work for them. They are great liars, and liars steal!

We were threatened the same as the caller on this thread.   These people are hacking into loan databases and getting accounts that appear to be overdue.  We called the original financial company and they were willing to work out the payments.  Said that they had not referred anything to Ms. Martin, nor any Edison, Escott and Associates.  Check the BBB on this people.  Edison is a fraud. Also, they are not lawyers. Drove to the location that they have on their letter and they do not exist.  Anybody can set up a phone number in your area to appear as if they are established there, but they can actually be anywhere.  They trunk numbers from somewhere else.  I reported this to the local police and the AG for the state.  They have gotten hundreds of the complaints for the same.
