This is a Wellmark BCBS call. They ask for DOB so as not to release PHI to wrong person but if you press they will give you the year so you know they have it and are just confirming. They are not calling about benefits or claims but usually about a new service or program they are offering for free that may be beneficial. Hope this helps!

This number is a valid Wellmark BCBS number. They are calling for several reasons but it does not have to do with claims or benefits. Usually they are telling you about a new program or service available. They only ask for your DOB and if you press they will give you the year so you know they have it already.

Caller claimed she was from Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and asked to speak to the parent of my 16 year old daughter.  She asked me to give my daughters day and month of her birthdate.  I declined and asked the caller what this was in regards to.  She said she couldn't give me more info until I verified, only that it wasn't in regard to benefits.  I said I wasn't comfortable giving out that information.  She said she understood and gave me another number to call back at a later time (855-484-9160).  I called that number and it answered as a Wellmark number and to hold for operator.  I know DARN sure after wanting to get in touch for years with Wellmark on the weekend (a whole other story!) that their operators aren't there on Saturday.  Would like to know who REALLY called me.  

Just got a call from this number, woman with a thick accent, identifying herself as someone from Wellmark/BCBS.. I don't actually recall if she gave me her name. She said they need to confirm details with me and that they had my birth year and just need my birth month and date. I asked what this call was regarding and she said she wasn't able to disclose that without confirming my identity and it felt really fishy so I ended the call. Googled the number and found this result. Scammers suck!

I just got a call from this number. The guy wanted to confirm my date of birth and started by telling me my year, which was wrong, so I hung up. Definitely felt like a scam.

Recieved several calsl from this number. Like everyone above, called Wellmark. Their Customer Service dept says that this was not one of their numbers. Nor any of their contractors and they had no notation for anyone needing to contact me.

I also received the same type of phone call from unknown caller: 855-484-9160. I called Wellmark.com and reported it today. Does not sound legitimate.

I had a very similar experience as JR.  Very shady.

I received a call on May 20, 2013 from this number.  The man sounded foreign and said he was from Wellmark.  He had my name and birth year and asked me to confirm my birth month and day so he would know it was me he was speaking to.  He wanted to discuss a plan that Wellmark offered.  I did not provide this information and asked him how I knew who he was and he willingly gave a number to call back at my convenience. I hung up and dialed that number and the initial recording says it is Wellmark and low and behhold when the phone was answered it was the same guy that initially called.  I hung up and called the actual Wellmark number to report this and they are sending it up the ladder to the supervisors.  The initial "real" recording from Wellmark is clearly not the same one that originates from the 855-484-9160.  Beware!

I believe they are identity theft they didn't go through all the secure questions that well mark blue shield customer service did and it sounded like a machine that was supposed to be a person
