The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Second time these people have called my cell phone with the same message for my daughter - stating it was a legal matter in Collin County, Texas. Woman stated her name is Ashley Ryann (and spells the last name for me). Even gives me a case # for this. My daughter has nothing in Collin County!

My mother recieved a call from KAG and Associates saying that she was used as a reference for a legal matter in a non existant county (come on people at least get the name of the county correct). Gave my mom a case id number. The lady's name was Ashley Ryann and she called from 855-848-1092 x 115.

yea they called me too today and i knew it was a scam cause i got nothing against them. they come to my house i will be calling the cops for sure.

i got a call said that her name was christ plain that she was come out to my job and she will ask that a supervior be a wittines i need a id ready the number was unk she left a nuber start with 8555313735 i have contract my law i give him the number she left on my voice mail she said bad thing . the law will file a sue again them

They are a Fraud company DO NOT PAY THEM any money.  I contacted the parent group of who they stated was issuing the court papers and they stated they were not taking me to court but gave me the company to call to pay my bill when I can.  Do not let them scare you and do not agree to pay them.  Get as much information as you are able about them and then report them to the BBB, FTC, and or anyone else you feel you need to contact FBI may also need to be called in.

Don't fall for these calls. I had a woman call my house and leave a threatening message about 2 claims I have with Kadent and Assoc and that I need to call back and resolve this matter or she (Mrs Thomas) was going to turn me over to Riverside County authorities.  She wished me luck and wanted me or my attorney to call her back. When you call the number, all you get is an answering service and it is totally bogus!!! My husband called the number back too because he was pissed that this stupid a** lady is called an harrassing us for something that doesn't pertain to me at all.

I had some woman call and say her name was Mrs. Thomas and she was with K.A.G & Assoc and that there were 2 legal pending claims and that I need to call 855-531-3735 X101 because it was important and that if I don't call she is going to turn it over to the Riverside County Courts. Are you serious, this stupid a** lady doesn't even know if she has contacted the correct person and is making threats.

My mother in law just received a call from 1-855-531-3735 and they said that they were from our county and that they were coming to my house and if not they would come to work and i needed 2 ids and a supervisor and manager.  I knew this was a scam right away.  I googled the number and found this.  I hate that they made her worry.  Unbelievable what people will do.

I was called by them also asking me to call them within 24 hours or the process to go to court would be followed through with.  There wasn't any name given for a company, but the guy used the name of John Boinkin.  Come on now, can't you come up with a more convincing name?

I have recieved the same call twice now from Rob and Robert.  Saying he has documents for me to sign and to have ID on me at all times.  The first call scared me as I had no idea who this was and the person said they "would see me soon" The call today said they would be out in 30 mins to serve me because I didnt put a "stop order" to come out.  My X husband wirks for a lawyer so I had him call back about this and he said its a scam its either a bill collector or someone pretending to be and wants "FAST CASH"

We received this same call today from courier saying they were trying to get ahold of us and that we could call 855-531-3735 and richard and we had a case number and we owed fast cash advance. dont believe them.

I just received the same call as nada with the same message and they are calling my job. It is bordering on harassment and I will be calling the better business bureau.

I received a call from a lady saying she was a courier that i needed to sign legal documents and that if she cannot reach me at home she will be at my place of employment.  She is calling my work number leaving a message. She leaves the number 855-531-3735 to call and a case number to put a stop to her coming. I called them from work blocked number and just ask them for their address the guy hesitated and said they only have a po  box.   The company was Kadent Asset Group.  He wanted ot know if i had a reference number I said no I just wanted their address. I believe it is a scam...because she has been calling for a week has never come to work or home.

i just received the same phone call, threatening to come to my house in the next few hours and if not there they are coming to my work and have 2 ids on me plus my supervisor and manager as a witness.  witness to what??  it is against the law to reveal private information to a thrid party.  would not identify on phone who they are calling from just to call this number.

The number called me and told that she was going to by my home in a couple of hours, and if she can't reach me at home she will come to my job and have a supervisor there to be a witness. Come on, REALLY. She said it was a court summons. If it was a court summons why are you telling me you are coming. That is not how a summons is served.  These people are a joke. She did not tell where she was calling from or who I supposed to owe. The woman called be from a pay phone in LA. What company uses pay phones? She told me to call 855-531-3735. This is not professional and not the way to collect a debt from someone.

Threatening call from very rude woman for someone not at this number. My wife answered and was accused of lying. I called to complain, the person I spoke with demanded that the person they wanted (not me) be at a job site with a supervisor and then I was hung-up on.
