I got the same message...Lorrain Williams... 2 felony charges.. alternate dispute resolution firm....will come to my home or job... lock up large dogs firearms.. small children.... it's a scam... DONT CALL THEM BACK.  I work in collections.. and a real collection company / bank/ law enforcement official or even a process server would never leave this kind of information on your voicemail.. PS.. You wouldn't be arrested for debt anyway, they'd have to sue you... you'd get notice of a court date and then IF they get a judgement they can try to attach wages etc.. depending upon your state and what the debt is... 2 felony charges my a**. I don't owe anyone anything except the IRS and they're taking that our of my pay.

The person calling identify themselves as "My name is Mrs. Lewis" who says that??? and said that I have two "felony suits" against me. Her company is "Alternative Dispute". And informed that they were giving me the "opportunity" to settle these charges before proceeding. Gave me a dockett number and to call 855-543-0051. She had an accent and was reading from a script using words that you can tell were directly and literally translated into english. ugh, I hate these people!

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

It doesn't matter if your caller was foreign or domestic. The fact is that she was a desperate bogus or junk/zombie debt collector. Process servers do NOT call ahead of time. EVER! In most places legal documents are served by deputy sheriffs. In some places licensed & bonded process servers will personally deliver legal documents. They are NEVER escorted by law enforcement personnel. In addition the canned speech she gave about weapons, children & ID are all a dead give-away that your caller was nothing but a minimum-wage cubicle clown hoping to scam a commission. Legal process does not work that way. ANYWHERE!
Be Safe. Be Aware.

Thanks for the follow up!  Some of the regulars (myself included) enjoy flushing these people out.  Any chance they gave you a physical address of the company, or a website?  Either would be exceptionally valuable to get to the bottom of this

This female did not speak with any foreign accent.  She spoke fluent and concise English.  Her message also went on to say something to the effect of ... "please make sure there are no firearms or weapons present when me and the deputy sheriffs arrive at your home or place of business.  Also, please make sure there are no children present or make arrangements for children if you are the responsible party for the children.  Also, please make sure to have two forms of ID when we get there."

Tell her to come on over for a cup-a tea. She couldn't be coming to serve you any legal papers. Because as we all know, they don't call in advance. I guess they do in India. They deliver it along with your take-out order.

What is professional about getting a call threatning to arrest you for a debt that is not even yours? This sounds like  bait and switch shill tactics to me. If I am wrong please provide proof that this is really a business.

Just got a call from these people.  Said they would contact the sheriff's department to have me arrested at work or at home.  Whenever I get calls like this I think it's a scam.  Just wondering if anyone else got a call from these people.  They did not identify who they were ... just said what they were going to do.
